Uplands nation

Göteborgs nation is one of the 13 student nations at Uppsala University.

Västmanlands-Dala nation, mostly referred to only as V-Dala, is one of the 13 student nations at Uppsala University in Sweden. The nation, intended for students from the provinces of Dalarna and Västmanland – these provinces making up most of the diocese of Västerås – was founded in 1639. The first inspektor of the nation was Olof Rudbeck the Elder, appointed in 1663. The current inspektor (as of 2016) is Peter Wallensteen, professor, Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University.

The Church of Sweden (Swedish: Svenska kyrkan) is an Evangelical Lutheran national church in Sweden. A former state church, headquartered in Uppsala, with around 5.6 million members at year end 2021, it is the largest Christian denomination in Sweden, the largest Lutheran denomination in Europe and the third-largest in the world, after the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania.A member of the Porvoo Communion, the church professes Lutheranism. It is composed of thirteen dioceses, divided into parishes. It is an open national church which, working with a democratic organisation and through the ministry of the church, covers the whole nation. The Primate of the Church of Sweden, as well as the Metropolitan of all Sweden, is the Archbishop of Uppsala. Today, the Church of Sweden is an Evangelical Lutheran church.It is liturgically and theologically "high church", having retained priests, vestments, and the Mass during the Swedish Reformation. In common with other Evangelical Lutheran churches (particularly in the Nordic and Baltic states), the Church of Sweden maintains the historical episcopate and claims apostolic succession. Some Lutheran churches have congregational polity or modified episcopal polity without apostolic succession, but the historic episcopate was maintained in Sweden and some of the other Lutheran churches of the Porvoo Communion. The canons of the Church of Sweden states that the faith, confession and teachings of the Church of Sweden are understood as an expression of the catholic Christian faith. It further states that this does not serve to create a new, confessionally peculiar interpretation, but concerns the apostolic faith as carried down through the traditions of the church, a concept similar to the doctrine of "reformed and catholic" found within the Anglican Communion. When Eva Brunne was consecrated as Bishop of Stockholm in 2009, she became the first openly lesbian bishop in the world.Despite a significant yearly loss of members (lately 1-2% annually), its membership of 5,628,067 people accounts for 53.9% (yearend 2021) of the Swedish population. Until 2000 it held the position of state church. The high membership numbers arise because, until 1996, all newborn children were made members, unless their parents had actively cancelled their membership. Approximately 2% of the church's members regularly attend Sunday services. According to a Gallup poll conducted in 2009, 17% of the Swedish population considered religion as an important part of their daily life.

Smålands nation is one of the thirteen student nations (a kind of student society) at Uppsala university in Sweden. It has around 1500 members, many of them international students. Smålands nation is well known for its live music scene and for its generous scholarships. The nation was founded in 1645, and originally contained what is now Kalmar nation. In 1663 however, the nation was split into two nations named Wexiö nation and Kalmar nation. Following a disagreement between the two nations in 1667, Wexiö nation once again took the name Smålands nation. The current nation house was built in 1954 and is located on S:t Larsgatan 5, close to Uppsala Domkyrka and the Fyris river.

Södermanlands-Nerikes Nation (usually called Snerikes) is one of the 13 student nations of Uppsala University. The nation claims its founding to be in 1548 when the original Södermanlands nation was founded, this nation merged with the Nerikes nation in 1805 to form the current nation. Though at the turn of the 20th century its numbers were as low as 100 members, there are currently around 5,000 students as members. Snerikes is unique amongst student nations in being not entirely open to all students. Swedes must be from or have close family relations to the Snerikes catchment area to join. This requirement is waived for foreign students; Snerikes is in fact a popular nation for ERASMUS students.

University Park (Swedish: Universitetsparken), is a public park in central Uppsala in Sweden, situated in the historical Fjärdingen district close to Uppsala Cathedral. The park was created in its present form following the completion of the centrally situated University Main Building on the site during the 1880s, and retains much of its original character today. Many historical sights surround the park, including the 19th century University building, Södermanlands-Nerikes nation, Gustavianum, Ekerman House and the 18th-century Archbishop's Residence. Also situated next to the park is the modern Church of Sweden main administrative office building and the Fyrisbiografen cinema. Before the University Main Building stands the monument to Erik Gustaf Geijer (1783–1847), poet and historian, which was sculpted by John Börjesson and erected in 1888. The six runestones displayed in the park were originally found in the city and its surrounding countryside.

University Hall or the University Main Building (Swedish: Universitetshuset) is the main building of Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden. The building is situated in University Park close to Uppsala Cathedral. It was designed in Italian renaissance Beaux-Arts style by architect Herman Teodor Holmgren (1842-1914) and completed in 1887. The building should not be confused with Carolina Rediviva, which is the Uppsala University Library building, or Gustavianum, the previous main building, which today is a museum.

The Uppsala University Coin Cabinet (Uppsala universitets myntkabinett) is one of Sweden's most important public coin and medal collections. It is housed in the main building of Uppsala University.

Uppland Runic Inscription 896 or U 896 is the Rundata catalog listing for a Viking Age memorial runestone originally located at Håga in the historic province of Uppland, Sweden, but is now at the Universitetsparken ("University Park") of Uppsala University.

Uppsala University (Swedish: Uppsala universitet) is a public research university in Uppsala, Sweden. Founded in 1477, it is the oldest university in Sweden and the Nordic countries still in operation.The university rose to significance during the rise of Sweden as a great power at the end of the 16th century and was then given relative financial stability with a large donation from King Gustavus Adolphus in the early 17th century. Uppsala also has an important historical place in Swedish national culture, and identity and for the Swedish establishment: in historiography, literature, politics, and music. Many aspects of Swedish academic culture in general, such as the white student cap, originated in Uppsala. It shares some peculiarities, such as the student nation system, with Lund University and the University of Helsinki. Uppsala belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities and to the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. It has ranked among the world's 100 best universities in several international rankings.The university has nine faculties distributed over three disciplinary domains: Humanities and Social Sciences, Medicine and Pharmacy, and Science and Technology. As of 2020, it had approximately 52,000 registered students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and 2,200 PhD students.Architecturally, Uppsala University has traditionally had a strong presence in Fjärdingen, the neighbourhood around the cathedral on the western side of the river Fyris. Despite some contemporary building developments further away from the centre, Uppsala's historic centre continues to be dominated by the presence of the university.

Ofvandahls is the oldest still operating café and konditori in Uppsala, Sweden, founded as Café Dahlia in 1878 by Erik Ofvandahl (1848–1949). It still occupies the original suite of rooms in a (now) listed 19th century building at the intersection of Sysslomansgatan and Sankt Olofsgatan, in the historical Fjärdingen inner city district. Ofvandahls held the distinction of Purveyor to the Swedish Royal Court for a long time and the café remained in the Ofvandahl family, being run by his daughters Ragnhild and Anna until 1971.

Kalmar nation, is one of the thirteen student nations (student society) at Uppsala university in Sweden. It is named for the city of Kalmar. Kalmar nation was founded in 1663 when the old Smålands nation split into two; Kalmar representing eastern Småland and the island of Öland, and Wexiö nation representing the west of Småland. Kalmar nation currently has around 1,700 members and is considered a somewhat 'alternative' nation, focusing on live music, providing for vegetarian and vegan diets, and regularly hosting a night clubs.
