Alexandra Park, Hastings

Horntye Park Sports Complex is a sports and conference centre in Hastings, East Sussex, England. Primarily known as a cricket ground, the venue also contains a large indoor sports hall, an all-weather pitch used for football and hockey and a series of rooms used for meetings, conferences and weddings. The venue is the former home ground of Hastings & St. Leonards Priory Cricket Club and currently home to South Saxons Hockey Club. Horntye Park became the towns' premier cricket ground in 1996 due to the development of Priory Meadow Shopping Centre on the Central Recreation Ground which forced Hastings Priory to move here. The site has been used for sport since the 1880s, primarily for football and was turned into allotments following its purchase by the Hastings Corporation in 1919. The site had been considered as a location for a new community sports ground in 1920 alongside The Pilot Field, with the latter being chosen. In 1982, Hastings Council voted to relocate the Central Recreation Ground to Horntye, then known as Summerfields, and use the ground's current location for a shopping centre with demolition work on the cricket ground and facilities starting in 1996.Temporary facilities were erected at Horntye before the main pavilion was opened in 2000, later that year Sussex played their first game here in a warm up game against Zimbabwe. Sussex played two more fixtures at the ground in 2001 and were due to return on 26 May 2008 for a Friends Provident Trophy match against Essex. It was to have been the first Sussex match there for eight years. The match was abandoned without any play due to 'torrential rain'.In November 2016, it was revealed that the directors of Hastings United had been working with the trustees of Horntye Park and Sport England for 18 months on plans to build a new multimillion-pound sports complex named Combe Valley Sports Village. Located in Bulverhythe, used by many amateur teams in Hastings and Bexhill, the complex would have been home to Hastings United, Hastings Priory and South Saxons Hockey Club. Proposed facilities included a 3,000 capacity stadium for Hastings United, 4g and grass football pitches, cricket pitches, Astroturf pitch and indoor sports complex. The complex would also have contained educational facilities for Sussex Coast College. It was proposed that the development be funded by housing developments built on land next to the complex at Bulverhythe, the Pilot Field and Horntye Park. However the scheme was dropped in 2018 after the housing developer backed out of the proposal.The trustees of Horntye later announced plans to move both the cricket and hockey clubs to new facilities at Claremont School, which would be funded by the sale of Horntye Park to developers. The cricket club played their last game at the venue on 4 September 2021, whilst the hockey club still play their home fixtures here.

St Peter's Church is a former Anglican church in the Bohemia area of the town and seaside resort of St Leonards-on-Sea, part of the Borough of Hastings in East Sussex, England. Founded in 1883 in response to the rapid residential growth of this part of St Leonards-on-Sea, the "outstanding late Victorian church" was completed and opened in 1885. Architect James Brooks was towards the end of his career but still produced a successful, powerful Gothic Revival design, which was built by prolific local firm John Howell & Son—builders of several other churches in the area. After the closure and demolition of the nearby St Paul's Church and the merging of the parishes, the legal names of the parish and church were changed to St Peter's and St Paul's Church. The church came to national attention in 2009 when its long-serving vicar was arrested for organising sham marriages. The church was declared redundant by the Diocese of Chichester in 2011; since 2010 it has been home to Sonrise Church—an independent Evangelical congregation. English Heritage has listed it at Grade II* for its architectural and historical importance.

Summerfields Wood is a 6.3-hectare (16-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Hastings in East Sussex. It is owned and managed by Hastings Borough Council.There are many paths through this semi-natural wood, which has a number of ponds. Birds include firecrest, whinchat, ring ouzel, wood warbler, spotted flycatcher and pied flycatcher.

Summerfields was a boys' preparatory school in the St Leonards-on-Sea area of Hastings, East Sussex. It occupied the buildings previously known as Bohemia House. Bohemia House was built in 1818, by the architect John (Yorky) Smith, and occupied the site of the former demolished Bohemia Farm, which has given its name to Bohemia Road, and the whole area known as Bohemia. The first owner of the house was G. N. Collingwood, a son-in-law of Admiral Collingwood. It was re-developed in the Jacobean architecture style in 1824 and Princess Sophia of Gloucester stayed there during the summer of 1830.In 1831, the house and estate was put up for sale. The building was later sold to Wastel Brisco who purchased the house for £8500. Wastel was the younger brother of Musgrave Brisco, the MP and mayor of Hastings in 1842. The estate had North and South Lodges. The North Lodge was located opposite 220 Bohemia Road (the current site of the fire station).In 1903 the house was leased by Dr C. H. Williams, headmaster of Summer Fields School, Oxford, and the name was changed accordingly. The school was known as "Summers mi" and during World War II was relocated to Summer Fields in Oxford. Former Summerfields alumni include Rainier III of Monaco. During World War II the house was used as the local town hall. The school closed in 1966 and the site was bought by Hastings Borough Council. The house was demolished in 1972.Part of the site was used for the new police station and fire brigade headquarters, and the name is now perpetuated by a hotel.

Gensing is a local government ward and district of St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, East Sussex. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 6,591. It is served by St Leonards Warrior Square railway station.

Old Roar Gill and Coronation Wood is a 7.6-hectare (19-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Hastings in East Sussex. It is owned and managed by Hastings Borough Council.This site has areas of open water, broadleaved woodland, fern and tall herbs. Old Roar Gill is a narrow steep-sided valley at the northern end of Alexandra Park. It has uncommon liverworts, mosses and lichens, together with rare and scarce invertebrates such as Rolph's door snail and the crane fly Lipsothrix nervosa.

St Luke's Church is a United Reformed church in the Silverhill suburb of Hastings, a town and borough in East Sussex, England. The congregation was originally independent (not linked to any Christian denomination) before taking up Presbyterianism, and worshipped in a private house from its founding in 1853 until a permanent church was provided in 1857; this was one of the oldest Presbyterian places of worship in southeast England. The growth of the community has resulted in several extensions since then, and severe damage caused by the Great Storm of 1987 was quickly repaired—except for the loss of the building's distinctive spire. The church, along with most other Presbyterian congregations, joined the United Reformed Church when that denomination was formed in 1972. It is one of four United Reformed Churches in the borough of Hastings.

The Church of St Thomas of Canterbury and English Martyrs is the Roman Catholic church serving St Leonards-on-Sea, a town and seaside resort which is part of the Borough of Hastings in East Sussex, England. The present church, which combines a plain, unadorned Gothic Revival exterior with a lavishly decorated interior featuring extensive early 20th-century paintings by Nathaniel Westlake, is the third building used for Roman Catholic worship in the seaside resort. James Burton's new town of 1827, immediately west of Hastings, was home to a convent from 1848; public worship then transferred to a new church nearby in 1866. When this burnt down, prolific and "distinguished" architect Charles Alban Buckler designed a replacement. The church remains in use as the main place of worship in a parish which extends into nearby Hollington, and has been listed at Grade II by English Heritage for its architectural and historical importance.

Ark Alexandra, previously known as Hastings Grammar School, William Parker School, William Parker Sports College, and later as Ark William Parker is a secondary school in Hastings, East Sussex in the United Kingdom. It was the only male single-sex secondary school in East Sussex and is now a co-educational Academy spread over two sites after Ark Helenswood Academy merged with Ark William Parker on 1 September 2019.

St Matthew's Church is an Anglican church in the Silverhill suburb of Hastings, a town and borough in the English county of East Sussex. The present building, a large brick structure of 1884 by ecclesiastical architect John Loughborough Pearson, replaced a much smaller church founded in 1860 when Silverhill began to grow from an agricultural area with scattered cottages into a suburb of the increasingly fashionable seaside resort of Hastings. Although a planned tower was never built, the "imposing" church dominates its steeply sloping site; and although its architect—a leading Gothic Revivalist—considered it one of his lesser works, it has been described as "outstanding" and "architecturally inventive". English Heritage has listed the building at Grade II* for its architectural and historical importance.

St Leonard's Baptist Church is the Baptist place of worship serving St Leonards-on-Sea, a town and seaside resort which is part of the Borough of Hastings in East Sussex, England. The elaborate building was designed by the architectural firm of Thomas Elworthy, responsible for many churches in late-Victorian era Sussex, and serves the residential hinterland of St Leonards-on-Sea—an area which grew rapidly after its early 19th-century founding by James Burton. English Heritage has listed the church at Grade II for its architectural and historical importance.

Hastings Museum & Art Gallery is a museum and art gallery located in, Hastings, East Sussex, England. Established in 1892, it originally resided in the Brassey Institute (now the town's library), but moved to its current location in 1927. As of 2019 it had around 97,000 objects of local history, natural sciences, fine and decorative arts, and world cultures.The early local history gallery recounts the history of the area from prehistory to the Saxons. Local wildlife is displayed in dioramas of different local habitats, and there is a dinosaur gallery. Other galleries include local wildlife and a Native North American collection, featuring the Plains and Sub-Arctic areas and the life of Hastings-born conservationist Archibald Belaney, who adopted the name "Grey Owl".
