The Ringgold School District was formed as a result of the merger of the Donora and Monongahela School Districts.

Ringgold School District is a midsized, suburban, public school district located in the northeastern corner of Washington County, Pennsylvania, south of Pittsburgh. The district encompasses 58 square miles, including the city of Monongahela, the boroughs of Donora, New Eagle and Finleyville, and the townships of Carroll, Union, and Nottingham. According to 2000 federal census data, it served a resident population of 26,933. The area is a mix of Pittsburgh suburbia and rural areas. The district includes a combination of two former high schools from the area. Monongahela and Donora both had their own junior and senior high schools. These building were sold in 2013 and no longer being used in the district. The current high school was built in 1979. Ringgold School District operates four schools: Ringgold High School, Ringgold Elementary School South and Ringgold Middle School in Carroll Township and Ringgold Elementary School North in Union Township. Ringgold built a new middle school next to the current high school. It opened for the 2017–18 school year and cost $45 million. Construction started in November 2015 and finished in October 2016.

The Edward G. Acheson House is a historic house at 908 West Main St. in Monongahela, Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. Probably built about 1870, it is notable as the home of Edward G. Acheson (1856-1931), the inventor of carborundum, and as the likely site of its invention. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

Monongahela, referred to locally as Mon City, is a third class city in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,149 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, about 17 miles (27 km) south of Pittsburgh proper. The city of Monongahela sits at a location where several locally important Pennsylvania state routes meet: a concurrency between Pennsylvania routes 88, 136, and 837 makes up most of the length of the city's Main Street, and the city's Park Avenue carries Pennsylvania route 481 to its northern terminus at Main Street. Monongahela is one of just two cities in Washington County, and is the second smallest city in Pennsylvania (after Parker). The town is served by the Ringgold School District.

The Mingo Creek Viaduct, officially called the Joe Montana Bridges, are a pair of twin girder bridges that carry Pennsylvania Route 43 over the Mingo Creek, Pennsylvania Route 88, and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway between Union Township and Carroll Township, both of Washington County, Pennsylvania. The bridges were completed in April 2002 with spans of 2,400 feet (730 m) and heights of 250 feet (76 m), which makes them the highest bridges in the Pennsylvania Turnpike system. The Emlenton Bridge at 270 feet (82 m) is the only higher bridge in Pennsylvania.The bridges are named after Pro Football Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Joe Montana, who played for nearby Ringgold High School.
