Fire Station No. 4 is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. This is one of a small group of fire stations built in the city around the turn of the 20th-century, and one of the earliest local examples of this building type. It was completed about 1896, and it has an addition on the east side that was built in 1962. The two-story brick structure features a tiled hip roof, stone beltcoursing, a projecting bay window on the main facade on second floor, and a Gibbs surround with stone voussoirs that surround the main entrance. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Franklin Apartments, also known as the Rood House, Antes House, and the Coffin Apartments, is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The building was constructed as a single-family dwelling for the Rood family in 1896. It was converted into a seven unit apartment building in 1914, and then substantially remodeled four years later by Frank B. Coffin into a three unit apartment building. The building is located on Sixth Avenue, which by the turn of the 20th century had become a major route utilized by vehicular traffic and streetcar lines. Its proximity to this transportation corridor illustrates the emergence of higher and denser residential use in this area of Des Moines. The apartment building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Scottish Rite Consistory Building in Des Moines, Iowa was built during 1926–1927. It is a late date example of Neo-Classical style architecture, designed by Roland Harrison, a partner in the Des Moines architectural firm of Wetherell and Harrison.The building is owned by the Scottish Rite and mainly used by the Scottish Rite and other Masonic organizations but is also used as a venue for weddings and other events. In recent years the building has seen renovation in the banquet hall and the lower floor of the auditorium had it carpet and chairs replaced.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.The building is located on a corner and presents stone-veneered "public" facades on the south and west sides, with short wrap-around extensions of the veneer on the north and east sides. It is 117 feet (36 m) by 164 feet (50 m) in plan and 80 feet (24 m) tall.

The Des Moines Grand Prix was a temporary street circuit located in Des Moines, Iowa, which hosted a round of the SCCA Trans-Am Series four times between 1988 and 1992.

The Naylor House is a historic building located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. Thomas Naylor was born in England and became a prominent grocer in Des Moines. He had this two-story brick Victorian house built in 1869. It is believed to have been designed by Des Moines architect William Foster. The house features an irregular plan, a combination gable-hip roof, two Carpenter Gothic wood porches, a bay window, pre-cast cement window hoods in an Eastlake design, paired roof brackets, and cornice returns on the gable ends. It remained in the Naylor family for almost 100 years. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

KUCB-FM was a radio station broadcasting on 89.3 FM in Des Moines, Iowa. The station aired programming aimed at the African American community in central Iowa. The station was on air from 1981 until 1998; its license renewal was successfully challenged in a seven-year legal battle that dragged on for most of the 1990s over an unauthorized two-year silence period and the illegal presence of a convicted felon as an officer of the station's licensee. A new minority station, KJMC, went on the air in 1999 as a result of a competing application to the license renewal.

Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center (formerly known as Veterans Memorial Auditorium) is a building located in Des Moines, Iowa, that is part of the Iowa Events Center. Named to honor the World War II veterans of Polk County, it opened on February 1, 1955. On May 22, 1956, Elvis Presley was the first major act to perform there while on tour of the upper Midwest. Elvis would perform in the auditorium twice more, on June 20, 1974, and his fourth to last concert ever on June 23, 1977.When it was home to the Drake Bulldogs university basketball team (1957–1992), it had 11,411 seats with the capacity to add an additional 4,000 for concerts and another 7,500 bleacher seats for basketball games. Commonly known as "Vets" or "The Barn," it was the long-time host for minor league basketball, arena football, Iowa high school basketball and wrestling tournaments, and high school graduations. Prior to the opening of Wells Fargo Arena, Vets Auditorium had served as the primary venue of sporting events and concerts in the Des Moines area for many years; this was also the site of the January 20, 1982 concert in which Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off a bat. World Wrestling Entertainment also broadcast their WWE Raw program from the venue. It was also the site of the 1989 steel cage match between Hulk Hogan and Big Boss Man on Saturday Night's Main Event XXI. With the opening of Wells Fargo Arena, the auditorium was relegated to a supporting arena role. In the fall of 2010, it was closed and renovated into a state-of-the-art convention facility that added a 28,800-square-foot ballroom to the Iowa Events Center in addition to 25 new meeting rooms. At this time, the naming rights were sold to Community Choice Credit Union. However, the structure itself is still referred to as the Veterans Memorial building. Veterans Memorial Hall was also added as a part of the renovation. The Hall showcases Iowa Veterans' sacrifices since Iowa became a state.

The American Republic Insurance Company Headquarters Building is a historic building located in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, United States. It was completed in 1965 for the insurance company's headquarters and it continues to serve that purpose. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

The Iowa Events Center is a public events complex located in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, United States.

Wells Fargo Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Des Moines, Iowa, United States. Part of the Iowa Events Center, the arena opened on July 12, 2005, at a cost of $117 million. Named for title sponsor Wells Fargo, the arena replaced the aging Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center as the Des Moines area's primary venue for sporting events and concerts. Wells Fargo Arena seats 15,181 people for hockey and arena football games, 16,110 for basketball games, and as many as 16,980 for concerts. It also features The Fort Restaurant, which provides views of the Des Moines River and the Iowa State Capitol. The restaurant opened on October 6, 2005, coinciding with the Iowa Stars' inaugural home game.The arena is also connected to the rest of the Iowa Events Center as well as downtown Des Moines through the city's Skywalk system.
