The University of Yaoundé I (French: Université de Yaoundé I) is a public university in Cameroon, located in the capital Yaoundé. It was formed in 1993 following a university reform that split the country's oldest university, the University of Yaoundé, into two separate entities: the University of Yaoundé I and the University of Yaoundé II. The University of Yaounde I, consists of: the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (Faculté des Arts, Lettres et Sciences Humaines, short FALSH) the Faculty of Sciences (Faculté des Sciences, short FS) the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (Faculté de Médecine et de Sciences Biomédicales, short FMSB). The higher teacher's Training College of Yaounde HTTC The National Advanced School of Engineering The Higher Teacher's Training Technical School of Ebolowa.The main university complex is Ngoa-Ekelle with several satellite campuses elsewhere.

The American School of Yaounde (ASOY) in Quartier du Lac, Yaoundé, Cameroon, is an independent coeducational school founded in 1964, which offers an educational program from Pre-K 3 through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. In the 2018–2019 school year, there are 37 full-time, 3 part-time faculty members and 2 interns including 18 U.S. citizens, 11 host-country nationals, and 8 third-country nationals. All staff members are fully certified and registered with their respective country’s educational department, with the majority trained and certified in the U.S. The school employs a full-time librarian and nurse.

The National Assembly (French: Assemblée Nationale) is the lower house of the Parliament of Cameroon. It has 180 members, elected for five-year terms in 49 single and multi-seat constituencies. Together with the senate, it constitutes the legislative arm of government.Although multiparty elections have been held since 1992, the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (RDPC), the ruling party since independence, has always retained control of the National Assembly. The Cameroonian political system invests overwhelming power in the hands of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, and the RDPC exists essentially to support Biya and his policies. As a result, for most of Cameroon's history since independence, the National Assembly has done little more than approve the President's policies. From 1992 to 1997, the RDPC relied on alliances with two smaller parties to secure a parliamentary majority. This has been the only period since independence that saw any meaningful opposition to presidential decisions. Beginning in 1997, the RDPC has won an outright majority in each election; its majorities have consistently improved as the opposition has weakened. Prior to 2013 and the creation of the Senate, the National Assembly was a unicameral chamber.

The Central Hospital of Yaoundé (In French, Hôpital Central de Yaoundé - HCY) is a hospital in the city of Yaoundé, Cameroon founded in 1933. It is Cameroon's largest hospital.Simon Pierre Tchoungui (1916-1997), the former prime minister of East Cameroun, was medical superintendent of the hospital in 1960 before being appointed Minister of Health in 1961.

The Yaoundé Multipurpose Sports Complex (French: Palais polyvalent des sports de Yaoundé) is an indoor sporting arena located in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The capacity of the Palais des sports de Warda is 5,263 people. It is used to host indoor sports such as basketball. It was built by the People's Republic of China and was inaugurated on June 19, 2009.

Cameroon's Reunification Monument was constructed in the 1970s to memorialize the post-colonial merging of British and French Cameroon. Located in Yaounde, its architects are Gedeon Mpondo and Engelbert Mveng. Another reunification monument, albeit far less well-known, is located in Mamfe.

The First Battle of Jaunde involved the attempted British and French assault on the German capital of Jaunde during the Kamerun campaign of the First World War. Due to a lack of coordination, difficult terrain, adverse weather conditions, and stiff German resistance, the attack was forced to retreat in late June 1915. Another assault on the capital would not be conducted until later that year.

The Second Battle of Jaunde involved the successful British and French assault on the German capital of Jaunde during the Kamerun campaign of the First World War. After the failure of the First Battle of Jaunde during the summer of 1915, the bulk of Allied forces had retreated to the Kele river. Following the Second Duala Conference where Allied commanders discussed the situation, it was decided that another assault should be attempted. Although the columns surrounding Jaunde were not in effective communication with one another, on 1 January 1916, British forces under Colonel Georges occupied the capital. By this time it had been abandoned by the German troops who had fled to the neutral Spanish colony of Río Muni. This Allied victory signaled the end of German resistance in Kamerun apart from the Siege of Mora which would continue for another few months.

Yaoundé (UK: ; US: , French pronunciation: [ja.unde]) is the capital of Cameroon and, with a population of more than 2.8 million, the second-largest city in the country after the port city Douala. It lies in the Centre Region of the nation at an elevation of about 750 metres (2,500 ft) above sea level. The outpost of Epsumb or Jeundo was founded between the Nyong and Sanaga rivers at the northern edge of the area's forests in 1887 by German explorers as a trading base for rubber and ivory. A military garrison was built in 1895 which enabled further colonization. After Imperial Germany's defeat in World War I, France held eastern Cameroon as a mandate, and Yaoundé was chosen to become the capital of the colony in 1922.Douala remained the more important settlement, but Yaoundé saw rapid growth and continued as the seat of government for the Republic of Cameroon upon its independence in 1960. Most of Yaoundé's economy is still centred on the administrative structure but major industries in Yaoundé include tobacco, dairy products, beer, clay, glass goods and timber. The city has many striking monuments and buildings, such as the Presidential Palace and Palais des Congrès.

The Kamerun campaign took place in the German colony of Kamerun in the African theatre of the First World War when the British, French and Belgians invaded the German colony from August 1914 to March 1916. Most of the campaign took place in Kamerun but skirmishes also broke out in British Nigeria. By the Spring of 1916, following Allied victories, the majority of German troops and the civil administration fled to the neighbouring neutral colony of Spanish Guinea (Río Muni). The campaign ended in a defeat for Germany and the partition of its former colony between France and Britain.

Blackitude Museum is an ethnographic museum in Yaoundé; Cameroon. The museum project began in March 1998 from a commitment of its founding president Her Majesty Ngo Nab. Fo I NANA Agnes Sunjio through her deep desire to save what remains of the artistic heritage in Cameroon. As a member of the royal family Bahouoc (Department of Nde in the western province of Cameroon), she carefully protected and preserved collections of art objects which were bequeathed by both her father and by kings of other chiefdoms, such as Bamileke Plateau of western Cameroon.

The Basilique Marie-Reine-des-Apôtres (Mary Queen of the Apostles Basilica) is a Roman Catholic basilica dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary located in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The basilica is under the circumscription of the Archdiocese of Yaoundé. The basilica is built on the site of the first church built by the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in Cameroon. The church was dedicated on March 2, 2006.
