Pequannock Township (pronounced pa-QUAN-nick) is a township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 15,571, an increase of 31 (+0.2%) from the 2010 census count of 15,540, which in turn reflected an increase of 1,652 (+11.9%) from the 13,888 counted in the 2000 census. The primary community in the township is the census-designated place of Pompton Plains. The name "Pequannock", as used in the name of the township and of the Pequannock River, is thought to have been derived from the Lenni Lenape Native American word Paquettahhnuake, meaning "cleared land ready or being readied for cultivation". The name "Pompton" has been cited by some sources to mean "a place where they catch soft fish".New Jersey Monthly ranked Pequannock Township as the "Best Bang for the Buck" in New Jersey and 9th overall in its 2011 edition of "Best Places to Live" in New Jersey. Pompton Plains is a former railroad station in Pequannock Township, Morris County, New Jersey. United States. Located at 33 Evans Place in the Pompton Plains section of Pequannock, the station is a former stop on the Erie Railroad's Greenwood Lake Division (former New York and Greenwood Lake Railway). The station was a single side-platform station with service from Wanaque–Midvale station in Wanaque to Pavonia Terminal in Jersey City, where connections were made to ferries to New York City. The next station north was Pompton–Riverdale after 1951 (Riverdale station before 1951). The next station south was Pequannock station. Service through Pompton Plains began in January 1873 as part of a railroad from Jersey City to Greenwood Lake and Sterling Forest, New York. The station became part of the New York and Greenwood Lake in 1878 and the Erie Railroad in 1896. Service through to Greenwood Lake ended in 1935 and replaced to Wanaque. In October 1963, the station became part of a shuttle line operated by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad between Wanaque–Midvale and Mountain View station in Wayne. Passenger service at Pompton Plains ended on September 30, 1966 as part of several cuts by the Erie-Lackawanna. The station was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 5, 2008.

The Martin Berry House is located in Pompton Plains in Pequannock Township, Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built in 1720 and documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1939. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 19, 1973, for its significance in architecture and settlement. Built by the son of one of the first settlers to the Pompton River region, the pre-Revolutionary War building has been little altered since its construction.Once the home of Medal of Honor recipient James R. Evans, the home was purchased by Pequannock Township for historic preservation in 2017. The Pequannock Township Historical Society, formed in 2014 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2015, has been tasked with the maintenance of the house.

From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.For ninth through twelfth grades, Lincoln Park public school students attend Boonton High School in Boonton as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Boonton Public Schools, with Lincoln Park students accounting for a majority of students at the high school. As of the 2018–19 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 643 students and 56.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.4:1. The two districts have sought to sever the more-than-50-year-old relationship, citing cost savings that could be achieved by both districts and complaints by Lincoln Park that it is granted only one seat on the Boonton Public Schools' Board of Education, less than the number of seats that would be allocated based on the percentage of students of population. In April 2006, the commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Education rejected the request. As of 2015-16 there were about 70 students from the borough attending the academy programs of the Morris County Vocational School District, which are the Morris County School of Technology in Denville; The Academy for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering in Rockaway at Morris Hills High School; and the Academy for Law and Public Safety in Butler at Butler High School.

The Pompton River is a tributary of the Passaic River, approximately 8 miles (13 km) long, in Passaic County in northern New Jersey in the United States. It is formed south of the borough of Pompton Lakes by the confluence of the Ramapo and Pequannock rivers. It flows south, passing between Lincoln Park and Pequannock Township (to the west) and Wayne (to the east). It enters the Passaic north of Fairfield Township at an area called Two Bridges. Its watershed encompasses a section of the Ramapo Mountains along the New York-New Jersey border in the rural suburbs of New York City. It is the main tributary by volume of the Passaic. A portion of the river's water is diverted to the nearby Wanaque Reservoir. The low-lying flat areas of Pompton Plains in Pequannock Township are prone to flooding from the Pompton River. In the wake of the heavy rains from Hurricane Irene in August 2011, the river overflowed, cresting at a record level of 25.54 feet (7.78 m) on August 29, causing flooding that displaced hundreds of residents.The proposed Passaic River Flood Tunnel would alleviate flooding by taking water from the Pompton River in Wayne and sending it through a tunnel measuring 40 feet (12 m) in diameter for the 20 miles (32 km) to Newark Bay.
