The Pompton River is a tributary of the Passaic River, approximately 8 miles (13 km) long, in Passaic County in northern New Jersey in the United States. It is formed south of the borough of Pompton Lakes by the confluence of the Ramapo and Pequannock rivers. It flows south, passing between Lincoln Park and Pequannock Township (to the west) and Wayne (to the east). It enters the Passaic north of Fairfield Township at an area called Two Bridges. Its watershed encompasses a section of the Ramapo Mountains along the New York-New Jersey border in the rural suburbs of New York City. It is the main tributary by volume of the Passaic. A portion of the river's water is diverted to the nearby Wanaque Reservoir. The low-lying flat areas of Pompton Plains in Pequannock Township are prone to flooding from the Pompton River. In the wake of the heavy rains from Hurricane Irene in August 2011, the river overflowed, cresting at a record level of 25.54 feet (7.78 m) on August 29, causing flooding that displaced hundreds of residents.The proposed Passaic River Flood Tunnel would alleviate flooding by taking water from the Pompton River in Wayne and sending it through a tunnel measuring 40 feet (12 m) in diameter for the 20 miles (32 km) to Newark Bay.

Pompton Plains is a former railroad station in Pequannock Township, Morris County, New Jersey. United States. Located at 33 Evans Place in the Pompton Plains section of Pequannock, the station is a former stop on the Erie Railroad's Greenwood Lake Division (former New York and Greenwood Lake Railway). The station was a single side-platform station with service from Wanaque–Midvale station in Wanaque to Pavonia Terminal in Jersey City, where connections were made to ferries to New York City. The next station north was Pompton–Riverdale after 1951 (Riverdale station before 1951). The next station south was Pequannock station. Service through Pompton Plains began in January 1873 as part of a railroad from Jersey City to Greenwood Lake and Sterling Forest, New York. The station became part of the New York and Greenwood Lake in 1878 and the Erie Railroad in 1896. Service through to Greenwood Lake ended in 1935 and replaced to Wanaque. In October 1963, the station became part of a shuttle line operated by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad between Wanaque–Midvale and Mountain View station in Wayne. Passenger service at Pompton Plains ended on September 30, 1966 as part of several cuts by the Erie-Lackawanna. The station was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 5, 2008.

The structure is listed as part of the Morris Canal on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places as well as the National Register of Historic Places.

The Pequannoc Spillway is a run-of-the-river spillway constructed in the 1920s as part of the Morris Canal system in the Pompton Plains section of Pequannock, New Jersey on one bank of the river and Wayne, New Jersey on the other bank. The spillway creates usable waterfront land out of swamps and provides water retention by creating a backwater on the Ramapo River. The structure is listed as part of the Morris Canal on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places as well as the National Register of Historic Places. It is a sister structure to the Pompton dam which lies on the Pompton River.

Pompton Plains is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community constituting the majority of Pequannock Township, Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the CDP's population was 11,144. The community was first listed as a CDP in advance of the 2020 census.

The Pequannock Township School District is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Pequannock Township, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising five schools, had an enrollment of 2,123 students and 167.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.7:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

Pompton Aquatic Park is a riverside park that spans the border of Wayne and Pompton Lakes in Passaic County, and the Pompton Plains section of Pequannock Township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. A total of 29 acres (12 ha) are situated within Passaic County, and divided evenly between Wayne and Pompton Lakes. The remaining 10.4 acres is situated in Pompton Plains. The park is located along the Pompton River and the historic Morris Canal Greenway, and adjacent to the Passaic County Farm, which is a preserved farm of approximately 15 acres. The emphasis of Pompton Aquatic Park is passive recreation, and it provides a network of multipurpose trails, scenic vistas, opportunities for fishing, and wildlife habitat. Part of this park used to belong to the now-dissolved Morris Canal Greenway and Banking Company. Parking can be found on local streets. The park can also be accessed via NJ Transit by bus routes 194 and 197.

The Mandeville Inn was a structure that stood at 493 Newark-Pompton Turnpike in Pequannock Township, New Jersey, United States. It was once owned by U.S. Vice President Garret Hobart, and is said to have been occupied by George Washington during the American Revolution.

WGHT (1500 kHz AM) is a radio station owned by the Borough of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey and licensed to serve the same municipality.The station simulcasts Warwick, New York station WTBQ's full-service format, and is a "daytimer" signing on at dawn and off at dusk, to protect other stations on the 1500 kHz frequency, i.e. clear-channel stations.

Al-Ghazaly High School in Wayne, in Passaic County, New Jersey, is one of the oldest Islamic high schools in the United States. The school was founded in 1984, and serves students in seventh through twelfth grades. The principal is Sr. Khaldiya Mustafa. Most students at Al-Ghazaly High School come from Al-Ghazaly and Al Hikmah Elementary School, located at Communipaw Avenue in Jersey City and North 8th Street in Prospect Park, respectively. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 353 students and 38.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.1:1. The school's student body was 56.7% (200) White, 28.3% (100) Asian, 10.2% (36) two or more races, 2.8% (10) Hispanic and 2% (7) Black.Al-Ghazaly's dress code has remained the same for many years to in order to show equality between students. Boys wear navy blue pants and white polo shirts while girls wear long navy blue Islamic dresses often referred to as "abaya" and red/maroon headscarves often referred to as "jilbab".

Neumann Preparatory School (known familiarly as Neumann Prep) was a private, Catholic college-preparatory school located in Wayne, New Jersey, within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson. It was founded as The Blessed John Neumann Preparatory Seminary in 1965. In 1970 Neumann was designated a Preparatory School and was all-male until the 1974–1975 academic year. The school was named for Saint John Neumann. Neumann Prep closed at the end of the 1989–1990 academic year. Since then the campus has been the site of a Montessori school and the Lakeview Learning Center. The current tenants are the Al-Ghazaly High School. The site is also headquarters of TSF Academy, a well respected soccer academy in Northern New Jersey. The property was owned by the Diocese of Paterson.

The Schuyler–Colfax House is located at 2343 Paterson Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne, Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built in 1695 by Arent Schuyler. It was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1936. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 3, 1973, for its significance in architecture.
