George L. Brooks School

Callowhill Depot is a bus and trolley barn operated by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), located in West Philadelphia, near the Delaware County border. It was built in 1913 by the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company (PRT) and was later operated by the Philadelphia Transportation Company (PTC) before being taken over by SEPTA. The depot was constructed as part of the Thomas E. Mitten modernization program. Since its construction, the depot has suffered fire damage and reconstruction in 1949, 1950, and 1995. The Callowhill Depot is located in the heart of West Philadelphia, located on the southwest corner of the 5900 block of Callowhill Street with the bus and trolley bays across the street. The depot is surrounded by 59th, Vine, 58th, and Callowhill Streets. Callowhill Depot was an all-trolley depot until May 28, 1955, when Route 70 (52nd Street Line) was converted to bus operation. Callowhill Depot was the base of all streetcar routes that operated in West Philadelphia, until National City Lines converted most of them to buses. The depot is accessible only to SEPTA employees, however, transit enthusiasts often photograph streetcars pulling in and out. For safety reasons, SEPTA Transit Police will stop and question anyone found on the property without reason or authorization.

Cathedral Park is a small neighborhood in the West Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Its boundaries are North 52nd Street to the west, West Girard Avenue and the Old Cathedral Cemetery to the south, and the SEPTA regional rail tracks to the north and east. Lancaster Avenue (US 30) runs through the eastern portion of the neighborhood, parallel to the SEPTA tracks. SEPTA’s 10 trolley serves the neighborhood via Lancaster Avenue. A prominent landmark in the neighborhood is the former St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church, located at North 52nd Street and Warren Street. Today, the Greater Bible Way Temple utilizes the building. Across the street from the former St. Gregory church, at the intersection of Media Street and North 52nd Street, is the former George Institute Branch Library of the Free Library of Philadelphia. On January 9, 2011, a fire destroyed the former St. Gregory Parochial School building. At the time of the fire, the building served as the home for the Global Leadership Academy Charter School.

Carroll Park is a neighborhood in West Philadelphia. Its boundaries are Lansdowne Avenue to the north, West Girard Avenue to the south, North 63rd Street to the west, and North 52nd Street to the east. Along major streets of the neighborhood, the Carroll Park Community Council, Inc. has placed banners that say “Carroll Park: Where our neighbors become friends.” The 10 trolley runs along Lansdowne Avenue and the 15 trolley runs along Girard Avenue. There is a park by the name of Carroll Park between North 59th and North 58th Streets and West Thompson Street and West Girard Avenue. Carroll Park’s residents are primarily working-class and lower-income African-Americans.

Blockley Township is a defunct township that was located in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Incorporated in 1704, the township was incorporated into the City of Philadelphia under the 1854 Act of Consolidation.

56th Street station is an elevated subway station on SEPTA's Market–Frankford Line, located at the intersection of 56th and Market Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The station serves two West Philadelphia neighborhoods, Haddington to the north, and Cobbs Creek to the south. The station is also served by SEPTA bus routes 31 and G.

The Mikveh Israel Cemetery Beth-El-Emeth at 55th and Market Streets is a Jewish cemetery in West Philadelphia founded in 1850 and dedicated in 1857 by Isaac Leeser’s Congregation Beth-El-Emeth as Beth-El-Emeth Cemetery (Hebrew: בית אל אמת). Kahal Kadosh Beth-El-Emeth “Holy Congregation of the True God” (or “God of Truth”) was founded in 1857 by Joseph Newhouse as a pulpit for Rev. Isaac Leeser after Leeser left Congregation Mikveh Israel. The congregation followed the "Spanish & Portuguese" rite despite most members hailing from Germany. They met in a former church on the east side of Franklin Street above Green Street in the Northern Liberties neighborhood. Many of its members had formerly belonged to Mikveh Israel and rejoined it when Beth-El-Emeth dissolved itself in 1897. Congregation Mikveh Israel took possession of the Beth El Emeth Cemetery in 1895.The cemetery is also referred to as Congregation Mikveh Israel's third cemetery. In May 1954, vandals who had been drinking in the cemetery, overturned 33 headstones, leaving behind beer and wine bottles.The City of Philadelphia erected a historic marker near the cemetery's location in 1998 to recognize Reverend Leeser and his contributions as a teacher and scholar.

William B. Hanna School was a historic school building located in the Carroll Park neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Henry deCoursey Richards and built in 1908–1909. It was a three-story, reinforced concrete, brick faced building in the Late Gothic Revival-style. It featured a central Gothic arched entry with grotesques, limestone trim, and a cornice with terra cotta trim. The school name was changed to Guion Bluford Elementary School in recognition of astronaut Guion Bluford, who attended Hanna School. The older portion of the school was demolished in 2010 and a replacement attached to its 1974 addition. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Holmes Junior High School is a historic junior high school building located in the West Philadelphia neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Henry deCourcy Richards and built in 1916–1917. It is a three-story, six bay, brick building on a raised basement in the Classical Revival-style. An addition was made to the "U"-shaped building shortly after it was completed in 1917. It features a slightly projecting center section, stone cornice, and brick parapet.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Mastery Charter School Shoemaker Campus, formerly William Shoemaker Junior High School, is a historic high school/middle school located in the Carroll Park neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is currently a charter school run by Mastery Charter Schools. The building was designed by Irwin T. Catharine and built in 1925. It is a four-story, 14 bay, reinforced concrete, yellow brick faced building in the Late Gothic Revival-style. It features a central projecting entrance bay with Gothic arched door, thin brick piers with decorative caps, and brick panels in a herringbone pattern. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

60th Street station is an elevated rapid transit station on SEPTA's Market–Frankford Line, located at the intersection of 60th Street and Market Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The station straggles the line between two West Philadelphia neighborhoods, Haddington to the north and Cobbs Creek. The station is also served by SEPTA bus routes 31 and 46.

Haddington is a neighborhood in the West Philadelphia section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its borders are defined as Haverford Avenue/Girard Avenue to the north, 52nd Street to the east, Market Street to the south, and 67th Street to the most western edge of the neighborhood. It is a largely African American community of mostly two-story rowhouses with a large proportion of elderly residents and a high home-ownership rate. Near the intersection of Vine Street and 56th Street, new construction and community facilities were built in the 1970s thanks to the Haddington Leadership Organization. Haddington's Historic District is located on the 6000 blocks of Market, Ludlow, and Chestnut Streets, showcasing colonial and classical revival styles of architecture built from 1909 to 1915. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. Also listed on the National Register of Historic Places are the George L. Brooks School and Thomas Dunlap School.

William L. Sayre High School (commonly referred to as Sayre High School) is a high school in Philadelphia. It was founded in 1949 as a middle school serving grades 7–9, becoming a high school in 2003. Sayre High School is also the home site of SHIELD (Sayre Health Initiatives Education and Leadership Development), a Sayre Health Center run enrichment program providing medical assistant training, health professions education, internship employment and scholarship opportunities for School District of Philadelphia high school students.
