Brush Hill

Irwin is a borough in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, 22 miles (35 km) southeast of Pittsburgh. Some of the most extensive bituminous coal deposits in the commonwealth are located here. In the past, iron foundries, flour mills, car shops, facing and planing mills, electricals goods, and mirror factories provided employment to the residents. In 1900, the population numbered 2,452; it increased to 2,886 in 1910. The population was 3,973 at the 2010 census.

Wendel is an unincorporated community and former coal town in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is 2.2 miles (3.5 km) south of Irwin. Wendel was associated with The Pittsburgh and Baltimore Coal Company's Edna No. 2 mine, which began operations in 1902. The company built houses for employees and a company store in Wendel. A sister mine, Edna No. 1, constructed in 1900, operated nearby. Both closed in the late 1930s.Wendel formerly had its own post office, established in April 24, 1908, and zip code. The post office closed in February 2021.

Brush Creek Salems Church, now known as Irwin Brush Creek Salem United Church of Christ, is a historic Reformed church building located in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It was built between 1816 and 1820, and is a two-story, brick building with a gable roof. The interior features a second floor gallery. A connected gable roofed, one-story addition was built in 1958.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
