Old St Paul's Church, Hoddlesden

Hoddlesden is a village in the borough of Blackburn with Darwen, in Lancashire, England. The village population at the 2011 census was 1,239. It is in the borough's East Rural ward, and is situated east of Darwen. To the north there are the parishes of Eccleshill and Yate and Pickup Bank, to the east there is Haslingden Grane, part of the West Pennine Moors, and to the south-west there is Blacksnape, a small hamlet. Although the village is now a residential area, with its residents commuting to places such as the nearby towns of Blackburn and Darwen, in the 19th and early 20th century, local industries included weaving and coal mining.Between 1901 and 1936 the village was on a tram route operated by the local authorities of the two towns. Hoddlesden was also served by a railway line, a branch of the Ribble Valley Line north of Darwen. The line, opened by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1876, only had goods trains, as petitions by local residents for a passenger service were unsuccessful. The section that served Hoddlesden closed in 1950.A mill was operated by Vernon Carus, a manufacturer of healthcare products, until 2003. There had been plans to convert it into apartments until, in 2008, the building was destroyed in a fire.Hoddlesden is part of the Rossendale and Darwen constituency. Jake Berry has been the Member of Parliament for Rossendale and Darwen since 2010.

Eccleshill is a civil parish in the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire, England. The population of the parish was only 319, at the census of 2011. It contains the hamlets of Eccleshill, Grimshaw and Waterside. Located within the parish is Shaws of Darwen, whom manufacture goods such as sinks and architectural terracotta. The factory situated in Waterside opened in 1908, and in the 1920s, the company was the largest employer in Darwen.The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's Hoddlesden Branch Line, the goods line opened in 1876 passed through the parish. It was built to provide one service to Hoddlesden, south of Eccleshill and although the passenger service was proposed the application was not successful. The goods station at Hoddlesden closed in 1950, but the line remained open to Waterside to serve Shaws of Darwen until 1962.

Bank Fold is a hamlet near Belthorn in Lancashire, England.

Belthorn is a small moorland village situated to the south-east of Blackburn in Lancashire, England. It is about two-thirds of a mile (1.1 km) away from junction 5 of the M65 motorway, which runs from Colne to Preston. Belthorn has a primary school, Belthorn Academy, and a large playing field with a children's recreational area. The village has two pubs: the community-owned, recently reopened Dog Inn and the Pack Horse (now named Marco Polo); the Pack Horse is an Italian restaurant and the Dog Inn serves pub food. The houses are mainly old weavers' cottages. Most of the village is in Hyndburn, though some of the houses, including those higher up in the village, are in Blackburn with Darwen.

Yate and Pickup Bank is a civil parish in the borough of Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire, England. The population of the civil parish taken at the census of 2011 was 366. The parish contains two hamlets, Bank Fold and Pickup Bank and part of the village of Belthorn which is on the boundary with Hyndburn. It has boundaries with the parishes of Eccleshill to the west and North Turton to the south. To the east is the area of Oswaldtwistle of the borough of Hyndburn and the area of Haslingden Grane of the borough of Rossendale (both of these districts are now unparished). The parish adjoins unparished parts of Blackburn with Darwen in two places: one is near Hoddlesden in the south west; the other, in the north is now along the M65 Motorway after the parish was extended in April 1997. As a result of the boundary changes, part of the village of Guide is now within the parish.

St John the Evangelist's Church was an Anglican parish church in Turncroft, Over Darwen, Lancashire, England. It was paid for by a Mrs Graham, and designed by the Lancaster architect E. G. Paley. The church cost £8,000 (equivalent to £840,000 in 2021). It had a spire 146 feet 6 inches (45 m) high. The church has since been closed and demolished.

Guide is a village on the edge of Blackburn, in Lancashire, England. It is located south of the town centre, and the M65 Motorway passes around the south and east of the village, with Junction 5 situated immediately to the southwest of the village. People who are born and have lived in Guide all of their lives are known as "Guiders". The traditional village pub, The King Edward, is on the corner of the original crossroads. The village also includes a post office, a Micro Brewery called The Patrons Tap, and a working men's club. A recreation ground features stone benches and flowers. There are a number of industrial and office buildings in the area, many of which have been built since the motorway was extended in late 1990s. Residents have protested against the increasing industrial development of the area. The Guide reservoir is surrounded by countryside. The area has a nearby pub, The Willows, and a DW Sports soccerdome and gym.The main roads in the village were originally Haslingden Road (the former B6232), Blackamoor Road and School Lane (both B6231). As part of the extension work of the M65, which was completed in 1997, one section of Haslingden Road including the crossroads was bypassed and the road became part of the A6077, which connects the town centre of Blackburn to the motorway.

Spring Vale railway station was a railway station that served the community of Spring Vale, in Darwen, Lancashire, England. It was opened by the Bolton, Blackburn, Clitheroe and West Yorkshire Railway on 3 August 1847, and was originally named Sough. At first, it was the southern terminus of the line from Blackburn (Bolton Road); the line south of Sough to Bolton opened on 12 June 1848 and was just located south of the road bridge at the top off Cranberry Lane The station was moved 150 yards north and was renamed Spring Vale and Sough in November 1870, and Spring Vale on 1 March 1877. It was closed on 5 August 1958, two days after nearby Lower Darwen. It achieved noteworthiness when, on the night of 25 September 1931, Mahatma Gandhi alighted from a train there to spend the night with a local family whilst visiting England to see the effects of his cotton making campaign on the British textile industry.

Darwen is a market town and civil parish in the Blackburn with Darwen borough in Lancashire, England. The residents of the town are known as "Darreners". The A666 road passes through Darwen towards Blackburn to the north, Bolton to the south and Pendlebury where it joins the A6, about 18 miles (29 km) north-west of Manchester. The population of Darwen stood at 28,046 in the 2011 census. The town comprises four wards and has its own town council. The town stands on the River Darwen, which flows from south to north and is visible only in the outskirts of the town, as within the town centre it runs underground.

St Barnabas' Church is on Watery Lane, Darwen, Lancashire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Blackburn with Darwen, the archdeaconry of Blackburn, and the diocese of Blackburn. Its benefice is united with that of St Mary, Grimehills.The church was built in 1884 as a mission church, and designed by the Lancaster partnership of Paley and Austin. It cost £1,462 (equivalent to £160,000 in 2021), and provided seating for 360 people. It is constructed in stone, with a Westmorland slate roof. On the church is a bellcote with a pyramidal slated roof. Its windows are square-headed. The church contains stained glass windows dating from 1963 by Shrigley and Hunt.
