Chiswick was a local government district in the county of Middlesex, England from 1858 to 1927. It was part of the London postal district and the Metropolitan Police District. The Chiswick Improvement Act 1858 created a board of 19 commissioners, one of whom was nominated by the Duke of Devonshire, the major landowner of the parish. The commissioners had power to levy rates for such matters as lighting, paving and sewerage.In 1883 the commissioners were replaced by a local board (which was also an urban sanitary authority) created under the Public Health Act 1875. the Duke of Devonshire retained the right to nominate a member of the board so long as he continued to hold 500 acres (2.0 km2) in the parish.The Local Government Act 1894 reconstituted the local board's area as an urban district, and the eighteen-member Chiswick Urban District Council replaced the local board. The urban district was initially divided into two wards each electing nine councillors named Chiswick and Turnham Green. In 1901 these were replaced with six wards, returning three councillors each: Bedford Park, Chiswick Park, Grove Park, Gunnersbury, Old Chiswick, and Turnham Green.In 1927 Chiswick UD was amalgamated with the neighbouring Brentford Urban District to form Brentford and Chiswick Urban District.

Turnham Green is a public park on Chiswick High Road, Chiswick, London, and the neighbourhood and conservation area around it; historically, it was one of the four medieval villages in the Chiswick area, the others being Old Chiswick, Little Sutton, and Strand-on-the-Green. Christ Church, a neo-Gothic building designed by George Gilbert Scott and built in 1843, stands on the eastern half of the green. A war memorial stands on the eastern corner. On the south side is the old Chiswick Town Hall. The green is the site of local community events, including a travelling funfair, church events and charity table-top sales. The nearest London Underground station is Chiswick Park on the District line. Turnham Green tube station is on Chiswick Common, the site in 1642 of The Battle of Turnham Green.

Christ Church, Turnham Green is a Grade II listed Anglican church sited on the eastern half of Turnham Green in Chiswick, west London. The church and the green on which it sits are local landmarks, and are considered of special historic interest by the London Borough of Hounslow.

The Chiswick Empire was a theatre facing Turnham Green in Chiswick that opened in 1912 and closed and was demolished in 1959. A venue for touring artists, some of the greatest names in drama, variety and music hall performed there including George Formby, Laurel and Hardy, Chico Marx, Peter Sellers and Liberace.

The Old Pack Horse is a Grade II listed public house in a prominent position on the corner of Chiswick High Road and Acton Lane in Chiswick, London.

Chiswick High Road is the principal shopping and dining street of Chiswick, a district in the west of London. It was part of the main Roman road running west out of London, and remained the main road until the 1950s when the A4 was built across Chiswick. By the 19th century the road through the village of Turnham Green had grand houses beside it. The road developed into a shopping centre when Chiswick became built up with new streets and housing to the north of Old Chiswick, late in the 19th century. There are several listed buildings including public houses, churches, and a former power station, built to supply electricity to the tram network.

In a meander of the River Thames used for competitive and recreational rowing, with several rowing clubs on the river bank, the finishing post for the Boat Race is just downstream of Chiswick Bridge. Old Chiswick was an ancient parish in the county of Middlesex, with an agrarian and fishing economy beside the river; from the Early Modern period, the wealthy built imposing riverside houses on Chiswick Mall. Having good communications with London, Chiswick became a popular country retreat and part of the suburban growth of London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was made the Municipal Borough of Brentford and Chiswick in 1932 and part of Greater London in 1965, when it merged into the London Borough of Hounslow. Modern Chiswick is an affluent area which includes the early garden suburb Bedford Park, Grove Park, the Glebe Estate, Strand-on-the-Green and tube stations Chiswick Park, and Turnham Green, as well as the Gunnersbury Triangle local nature reserve. Some parts of Bedford Park and Acton Green are in the Chiswick W4 postcode area but the London Borough of Ealing. The main shopping and dining centre is Chiswick High Road. Chiswick Roundabout is the start of the North Circular Road (A406). At Hogarth Roundabout, the Great West Road from central London becomes the M4 motorway, while the Great Chertsey Road (A316) runs south-west, becoming the M3 motorway. People who have lived in Chiswick include the poets Alexander Pope and W. B. Yeats, the Italian poet and revolutionary Ugo Foscolo, the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro, the novelist E. M. Forster, the rock musicians Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, and Phil Collins, and the stage director Peter Brook.

Billings and Edmonds is a British school uniform supplier. It was originally a gentlemen's tailor, and later changed its tailoring business towards the school uniform market. They operate an online business but also have High Street shops in Eton, Harrow on the Hill and Chiswick. The Harrow Branch, which serves Harrow School boys, until the 1980s was called Stevens, Billings & Edmonds when Billings & Edmonds incorporated the local Harrow tailor and other Harrow School outfitters, F.W.Stevens. Currently their Harrow branch has been renamed back to simply, 'Billings & Edmonds'. The first shop was in Princes Street, off Hanover Square, midway between the tailoring district of Savile Row and Regent Street. It claims to be founded in 1896, and accounts are extant from 1898- the current director Colin Edmonds is the fourth generation in the firm.School catalogues are available from the 1920s that show they were supplying to Eton College, Harrow School, Stowe, Oundle, Rugby, Lancing, Heathfield School and Godolphin & Latymer. The supplier is used by forty independent schools in England.

Heathfield Terrace was an authorised underground railway station planned by the Central London Railway (CLR) but never built. It was to be located at the north-east corner of Turnham Green at the junction of Heathfield Terrace and Chiswick High Road, in Chiswick, in west London.

Gunnersbury Triangle is a 2.57-hectare (6.4-acre) local nature reserve in Chiswick, in the London boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow, immediately to the east of Gunnersbury. It was created in 1983 when, for the first time in Britain, a public inquiry ruled that a planned development of the land could not go ahead because of its value for nature. It opened as a nature reserve in 1985. The area consists mainly of secondary birch woodland, with some locally uncommon willow carr or wet woodland and a small area of acid grassland along the track of the former Acton curve railway. The reserve supports a varied population of plants, birds, amphibians, insects and other wildlife. It is managed by the London Wildlife Trust.The reserve is maintained by London Wildlife Trust staff with the help of volunteers, and is open to the public. There is a varied programme of activities including wildlife walks, fungus forays, open days and talks. The reserve is used regularly by school and community groups, and for team-building work days by corporate groups. Its entrance, with a wooden five-bar gate flanked by hedges, is on the south of Bollo Lane, a few yards from Chiswick Park Underground station.

Chiswick Park is a London Underground station in the Acton Green district of Chiswick in West London. The station is served by the District line and is between Turnham Green and Acton Town stations. It is located at the junction of Bollo Lane and Acton Lane about 150 m north of Chiswick High Road (A315) and is in Travelcard Zone 3. The station is near Acton Green common. The Piccadilly line uses the inside tracks, but often does not stop here.
