Andrews Tavern is an historic building located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The original building was constructed for Samuel Andrews in 1815. Around 1848, a frame wing was added to the brick structure for a tavern. Though the wing was added to the original residence, there is no interior connection between the two. The tavern is an example of Federal provincial architecture. In 1778, the county seat of Spotsylvania County was moved to Andrews Tavern area which was a central location in the county. The county seat remained at Andrews Tavern until it was moved to its present location at Spotsylvania Court House in 1839. Since the construction of the building, it has served a number of purposes including United States Post Office (1842–1862) and, during the American Civil War, Confederate post office (1862–1865). During his ownership of the building, Samuel Andrews was postmaster for the governments of both the Confederate States of America and the United States. The building has also served as a school and a polling place. The location of the tavern, near the intersection of two major roads, made it a central social and political gathering place. Both the Whigs and the Democrats promoted their parties on election days in the 1840s with parades, banners, and free whiskey for voters. In 1885, the building once again housed a post office. As of 1999, Andrews Tavern was a private residence. The property has been designated as a Virginia Historic Landmark and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in July 1976.

Lake Anna State Park is a state park located in Spotsylvania County in Virginia. Initially, the site of the Goodwin Gold Mine – gold was first discovered at the site in 1829 – the land later played host to Lake Anna, a reservoir created to serve as a coolant for Dominion Power's nearby nuclear power plant. It was created by damming up the North Anna River. Work to create the park began in 1972 and it opened formally in 1983.

Contrary Creek is a tributary of the North Anna River located near Mineral in Louisa County, Virginia. The creek is of rising scientific interest due to the significant amount of drainage of toxic mine waste into the creek which has caused the water to steadily redden in color and overly decreased its pH levels; this in turn has resulted in a lack of aquatic life. Further study and treatment of Contrary Creek may reveal new answers on the effects of certain pollutants in contaminated waters as well as insight into the ways to improve the prevention of similar occurrences in the future. The USGS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service, and the DMME, Division of Mineral Resources, are among those currently investigating Contrary Creek.

North Anna Nuclear Generating Station

The North Anna Nuclear Generating Station is a nuclear power plant on a 1,075-acre (435 ha) site in Louisa County, Virginia, in the Mid-Atlantic United States. The site is operated by Dominion Generation company and is jointly owned by the Dominion Virginia Power corporation (88.4%) and by the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (11.6%). The plant has two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors which went on-line in 1978 and 1980, respectively. Together the reactors generate 1.79 gigawatts of power, which is distributed mainly to the greater Richmond area and to Northern Virginia. In March 2003, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved 20 year license extensions for both Units 1 & 2.An artificial lake, Lake Anna, was constructed on the North Anna River to provide a reservoir of water coolant for use with the nuclear plant. Dominion Energy currently owns nuclear power plants in Virginia (North Anna, Surry), Connecticut (Millstone), South Carolina (Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Generating Station), and Wisconsin (Kewaunee). North Anna is similar in design and appearance to Surry Power Station.

Pamunkey Creek is a 20.8-mile-long (33.5 km) river in Orange and Spotsylvania counties in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is a tributary of the North Anna River. The creek is formed by the confluence of smaller branches that rise in the town of Orange, Virginia, then flows southeast across the Virginia Piedmont. It joins the North Anna as an arm of Lake Anna, a reservoir. Via the North Anna, Pamunkey, and York rivers, Pamunkey Creek is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

It is marked with a highway sign at the intersection of Belmont Road (Route 652) and Orange Springs Road (Route 653) by the Virginia Department of Transportation, however is marked as being the intersection with Belmont Road and Jones Powell Road (Route 653) by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Walnut Grove is an historic Greek Revival-style house in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The house was built in 1840 on land that was purchased by Jonathan Johnson in 1829. Markings on the exposed oak beams indicate that Walnut Grove was built by William A. Jennings. Jennings was recognized as a master builder of Greek Revival homes during that period. Walnut Grove was added to the National Register of Historic Places in August 2004.
