Cork Albert Street railway station

The Cork, Blackrock and Passage Railway (CB&PR) was a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge railway in County Cork, Ireland. The line originally opened in 1850 as a 5 ft 3 in (1,600 mm) Irish standard gauge railway between Cork and Passage West and operated steam feeder ferries to other locations round Cork Harbour. The company was heavily dependent on summer tourist traffic for a considerable proportion of its revenue. The railway was converted to 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge in 1900 in conjunction with extensions southwards to Crosshaven which were completed in 1904. The railway closed in 1932 and has since been replaced by a public pathway and nature area.

The Elysian is a mixed-use Celtic Tiger-era building at Eglinton Street in Cork, Ireland. Construction of the building was completed in early September 2008. When built it was the tallest building in the Republic of Ireland. It was overtaken by Capital Dock in the Dublin Docklands in 2018. It now stands as the third tallest building in the Republic of Ireland and tallest in Cork.

The Custom House is an early 19th-century building in Cork, Ireland. Originally developed as a custom house and opened in 1818, the Cork Harbour Commissioners (later reorganised as the Port of Cork Company) took over the building in 1904. The Port of Cork Company vacated the building in early 2021. The Custom House is, together with a number of other buildings on the same site, listed by Cork City Council on its Record of Protected Structures.

Lapp's Island was once an island in the River Lee. It is now joined with the island which forms the center of Cork City, Ireland and refers to the eastern tip of that island.It was apparently named after an owner in the 17th century. The island had probably been reclaimed from swamp at that time. In the 18th century it was separated from the main island by a canal which roughly followed what is now Parnell Place. It was fully joined to the main island by 1832.Custom's House, at the eastern extremity of the island, sits on what was called the tongue of Lapps's Island, and the modern Lapp's Quay sits on the southern shore of Lapp's island.

The City Hall, Cork (Irish: Halla na Cathrach, Corcaigh) is a civic building in Cork, Ireland which houses the administrative headquarters of Cork City Council.

The Irish Industrial Exhibition was a world's fair held in Cork in 1852, the first to be held in Ireland (then part of the United Kingdom). It was opened on 10 June by the Lord Lieutenant, the Earl of Eglinton. Taking place two years after the Great Famine ended, and following a significant increase in Cork's population due to an influx of people fleeing the countryside the fair stemmed partly from attempts to revive local industries.It was housed in the Albert Quay area in a cruciform building designed by John Benson with three wings given over to industrial exhibits such as whiskey, projectile shells, hydraulic presses, Valentia slate and gingham and a fourth to fine arts.

Penrose House is a historic building in Penrose Quay, Cork, Ireland. Built in neoclassical style, it is prominently located on the northern bank of the River Lee. Penrose House was designed by George R. Pain of the Pain brothers and the construction started in 1832. Built of granite and limestone, the five-bay structure has two storeys. Some of the façade elements, including a frieze and a bay to the right of the entrance, were added over the years, and many 19th century features have been preserved, including the sculpture of St. George defeating a dragon on the top of the portico, four marble columns, as well as timber carvings and staircase.

Cork Courthouse, Anglesea Street (Irish: Teach Cúirte Chorcaí, Sráid Anglesea) is a judicial facility on Anglesea Street, Cork, Ireland. It serves as the Cork Court Office for matters of crime, while the courthouse on Washington Street serves as the court office for civil and family matters. It operates at the level of the District and Circuit Courts. It holds six courtrooms.Originally a school, it was converted into a courthouse in 1995. It closed again in 2015 for renovations, with the building's conversion into a courthouse being completed in 2018. It was officially opened in May 2018 by Minister for Justice and Equality Charlie Flanagan.Following a unanimous vote by Cork City Council, Anglesea Street is due to be renamed MacSwiney Street, in honour of Terence MacSwiney, at some point in 2022.

The Copley Street riot occurred on 13 August 1934, at the Copley Street Repository, Cork, Ireland after Blueshirts opposed to the collection of annuities from auctioned cattle rammed a truck through the gate of an ongoing cattle auction. The Broy Harriers opened fire and one man, 22 year old Michael Lynch, was killed and several others injured.

Parnell Place Bus Station is the principal bus station in Cork, Ireland, for Expressway and Regional services operated by Bus Éireann, InterCity services operated by GoBé, and international services operated by Eurolines. Historically, all regional bus services to or from Cork City used Parnell Place bus station, but in recent years a number of services to nearby towns such as Ballincollig, Crosshaven, Carrigaline and Passage West have started using on street bus stops due to capacity constraints.

Metropolitan Cork is a semi-official term which refers to the city of Cork, Ireland, its suburbs, the rural hinterland that surrounds it, and a number of the towns and villages in that hinterland. Some of the latter towns and villages are within the administrative area of County Cork. The term Metropolitan Cork was used in the Cork Area Strategic Plan to refer to the area whose labour and property market is shared with the city. The plan declared that it was envisaged as an area with "an integrated transport system, and the social, cultural and educational facilities of a modern European city". Metropolitan Cork is the core employment hub of the "Greater Cork" area. The term is loosely defined but has been taken by authorities to include the city of Cork, its suburbs and the towns of Ballincollig, Blarney, Carrigaline, Carrigtwohill, Cobh, Douglas, Glanmire, Glounthaune, Midleton, Passage West and Ringaskiddy.According to the Cork Area Transit System (CATS) Study Final Report of February 2010, at that time, the metropolitan area covered 820km2 and approximately 270,000 people.By mid-2018, legislation was drafted to expand the boundary of Cork city, to include a number of the metropolitan area towns (such as Blarney and Carrigtwohill). This change proposed to bring much of "Metropolitan Cork" within the bounds of the Cork City Council area. On 31 May 2019, the boundary change came into force, with the city bounds being extended to include Ballincollig, Blarney, Glanmire, Rochestown, Grange and Cork Airport, and thereby increasing the city population from 125,000 to approximately 210,000.
