Carmarthen District Council (Welsh: Caerfyrddin) was one of six local government districts of the county of Dyfed, west Wales, from 1974 to 1996.

Llanddarog () is a community located in Carmarthenshire, Wales.The community population at the 2011 census was 1,198., and includes the villages of Cwmisfael, Mynyddcerrig and Porthyrhyd. The community is bordered by the communities of: Llanarthney; Gorslas; Pontyberem; Llangyndeyrn; and Llangunnor, all being in Carmarthenshire.

Llanarthney (Welsh: Llanarthne; ) is a village and community in Carmarthenshire, south-west Wales. It is situated on the B4300 road, 12 km (7.5 miles) east of Carmarthen and 10 km (6 miles) west of Llandeilo. The community had a population at the 2001 census of 738, of whom 61 per cent were Welsh-speaking. At the 2011 census the population had increased slightly to 765.Llanarthney is bordered (clockwise from the north) by the Carmarthenshire communities of Llanegwad, Llangathen, Llanfihangel Aberbythych, Gorslas, Llanddarog, Llangunnor, and Abergwili.

Coedydd y Garn is an outcrop of limestone that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Carmarthen & Dinefwr, Wales.

Llanarthney railway station served the village of Llanarthney, in the historical county of Carmarthenshire, Wales, from 1865 to 1963 on the Llanelly Railway.

Llanegwad () is a village and community located in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The population taken at the 2011 census was 1,473. Llanegwad is built up mainly of small farms and detached homes. The community is bordered by the communities of: Llanfihangel Rhos-y-Corn; Llanfynydd; Llangathen; Llanarthney; Abergwili; and Llanllawddog, all being in Carmarthenshire. Villages include Cwrt Henri, Nantgaredig, and Pontargothi.

Paxton's Tower is a Neo-Gothic folly erected in honour of Lord Nelson. It is situated on the top of a hill near Llanarthney in the River Tywi valley in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is a visitor attraction that can be combined with a visit to the nearby National Botanic Garden of Wales. Its high location provides views over the Botanic Gardens and the Tywi valley. The tower, a grade II* listed building, is under the care of the National Trust. The surrounding parkland is registered at Grade II* on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

Pont-ar-gothi (otherwise Pontargothi or Cothi Bridge) is a village in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. The village takes its name from the bridge where the A40 Road trunk road crosses the River Cothi. It lies some 10 miles (16 km) east of Carmarthen.

The Afon Cothi (also known as the River Cothy) in Carmarthenshire is the largest tributary of the River Tywi in south Wales. From its source at Blaen Cothi in the north of the county, north of Pumsaint, it flows south-east and then turns south-west to flow past Cwrt-y-cadno, Pumsaint, Abergorlech and Pont-ar-Gothi before joining the River Tywi west of the village of Llanarthney. The Cothi is noted for its trout and sea trout (sewin) fishing and for its scenery.

Mynyddcerrig is a village in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Mynyddcerrig once had a primary school, Ysgol Mynyddcerrig, which closed in 2007, however, it still has a working men's club and a public park.

Ysgol y Gwendraeth was a secondary comprehensive school for pupils aged 11 to 18 in the Gwendraeth Valley, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Situated in the village of Drefach, it had 312 pupils in 2012. The School was effectively closed in 2013 when it was merged with Ysgol Maes Yr Yrfa and teaching at the Ysgol y Gwendraeth site in Drefach ceased. This merger eventually led to Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth. The school was originally a Grammar School known as Gwendraeth Grammar School, or Gwendraeth Valley Grammar School. The original school building was built in 1927.The school promoted the Welsh language, Welsh history, and Welsh culture. Some subjects were available to be taught in the Welsh language if requested; otherwise the lessons were taught in the English language only. There was also a Sixth Form College and the school additionally housed the Garreglwyd Autistic Unit and Annex. The majority of the pupils and staff could speak Welsh. Many staff members lived in or near the valley and were thus naturally immersed in all aspects of the life of the community. Ysgol Y Gwendraeth earned the 2001-2002 Schools Curriculum Award. The feeder primary schools were Category A schools, where Welsh is the language spoken and taught up to the age of seven and where Welsh culture is actively promoted with the assistance of Menter Cwm Gwendraeth, which promotes Welsh and Welsh culture and history.
