Redwater, Alberta

The Redwater Health Centre is a 21-bed facility, 14-bed acute care including 1 palliative care bed and 7 long term care bed facility located in Redwater, 65 kilometers northeast of The City Edmonton. The health centre offers many of the main services to the community of Redwater including public health, rehabilitation, mental health, and environmental health services. The health center opened six long-term beds in 2006 due to the increasing amount of wait times in the Fort Saskatchewan health facility. All of the six beds were taken up within days of their opening. The Redwater facility is known for recruiting physicians from around the world, most recently from South Africa.

Opal is a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada within Thorhild County. It is located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north of Highway 28, approximately 53 kilometres (33 mi) northeast of Edmonton. Originally named Rutherford after Alberta's first premier, Alexander Cameron Rutherford but was renamed to the unique "Opal" when the first post office opened on November 15, 1912. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, Opal had a Roman Catholic Church (built in 1915), grain elevator (built 1918 by the Gillespie Grain Company), general store, International Harvester Company dealership, hardware store, lumber yard, blacksmith, Massey-Harris dealership, meat market, hotel (built in 1938), community hall, pool hall, railway station and school. In November 1954 the Opal Church was moved to Redwater.

The Shell Scotford Upgrader is an oilsand upgrader, a facility which processes crude bitumen from oil sands into a wide range of synthetic crude oils. The upgrader is owned by Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP), a joint venture of Shell Canada Energy (60%), Marathon Oil Sands L.P. (20%) and Chevron Canada Limited (20%). The facility is located in the industrial development of Scotford, just to the northeast of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta in the Edmonton Capital Region.

Scotford Cogeneration Plant is a natural gas power station owned by Heartland Generation. The plant is located in Strathcona County, just northeast of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada at the Scotford Upgrader site. The plant is primarily used to supply steam and electricity to the Athabasca Oilsands Upgrader (a joint venture between Shell Canada, Chevron Canada Resources Limited and Western Oilsands LP). The Upgrader utilizes two-thirds of the electricity generated with the balance being sold to the Alberta Interconnected Grid.

Alberta's Industrial Heartland (also known as Upgrader Alley or the Heartland) is the largest industrial area in Western Canada and a joint land-use planning and development initiative between five municipalities in the Edmonton Capital Region to attract investment in the chemical, petrochemical, oil, and gas industries to the region. It is "home to more than 40 petrochemical companies" and is one of Canada's largest petrochemical processing regions." By July 2015 there was $13 billion invested in new industrial projects providing employment for 25,000 in the Alberta's Industrial Heartland.

The Sturgeon River is a 260-kilometre-long (160 mi) river in central Alberta. It is a major tributary of the North Saskatchewan River. The river crosses Sturgeon County, which was named for this river. For much of its length, the Sturgeon is the northwestern-most major river in the Hudson Bay drainage basin, as the river runs close to and parallel to the Arctic Divide. At the Villeneuve station, Sturgeon River has a discharge of 0.4 to 3 m3/s.Fish species which may be found in the river include: walleye, pike, perch, burbot, goldeye, sturgeon, whitefish, and sauger.

Hu Haven is an unincorporated community in Alberta, Canada within Sturgeon County that is recognized as a designated place by Statistics Canada. It is located on the south side of Township Road 554, 0.8 km (0.50 mi) east of Highway 825.

Josephburg is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County. It is located on Highway 830, 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) east of Fort Saskatchewan. It is near Alberta's Industrial Heartland, home to petrochemical industries. The Warren Thomas (Josephburg) Aerodrome, a local airport serving Strathcona County and Alberta's Industrial Heartland, is located near Josephburg. Josephburg was founded by German immigrants.

Jurassic Forest is a seasonal tourist attraction located on Highway 28 just north of Gibbons, Alberta, just minutes away from Edmonton, Alberta by vehicle. The facility is situated in a mature mixed Aspen parkland forest setting and features more than 40 animatronic dinosaurs in their natural habitat. The dinosaurs can be easily viewed from wooden trails that lead through the forest. The trail system consists of two separate loops, the South Discovery trail and the North Discovery trail, each about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) long. The trails are wheelchair friendly and are accessible in all types of weather conditions.
