Ilipa

Alcalá del Río is a municipality in Seville, Spain. It had a population of 9,317 in 2005. It has an area of about 83 square kilometers and has a population density of 112.3 people per square kilometer. It has an altitude of 30 meters (about 100 feet) and is situated 13 kilometers away from Seville.

The Battle of Ilipa () was an engagement considered by many as Scipio Africanus’s most brilliant victory in his military career during the Second Punic War in 206 BC. It may have taken place on a plain east of Alcalá del Río, Seville, Spain, near the village of Esquivel, the site of the Carthaginian camp.Though it may not seem to be as original as Hannibal’s tactic at Cannae, Scipio's pre-battle maneuver and his reverse Cannae formation stands as the acme of his tactical ability, in which he forever broke the Carthaginian hold in Iberia, thus denying any further land invasion into Italy and cutting off a rich base for the Barca dynasty both in silver and manpower.

La Algaba (Arabic: الغابة) is a Spanish municipality in the province of Seville, Andalusia, with a population of around 16,000. It belongs to the region of La Vega, 7 km from the provincial capital, Seville. The town dates back to the Byzantine Empire, and has many historical artifacts and significant churches. The river Guadalquivir features prominently in the history of La Algaba. The river acquires a considerable width here, with large poplars leaning over the water, and is surrounded by numerous orange orchards. Fishing on its banks is a common activity among locals. The town is also known for its many festivals.

Birth of a New Man (Spanish: Nacimiento de un Hombre Nuevo), popularly known as el huevo de Colón ("the Columbus' egg"), is a monument in Seville, Spain. It is a work by Zurab Tsereteli, consisting of a colossal statue representing Christopher Columbus partially enfolded by an egg-like shell. It was a gift from the city of Moscow to Seville on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Columbus in the Caribbean in 1492. The reported height of the sculptural work ranges from 42 to 45 metres (138 to 148 ft), while the individual figure is 32 metres (105 ft) high, thus ranking as the largest statue in Spain, ahead of the Cristo del Otero.Located at the Park of San Jerónimo, it was inaugurated by Elena de Borbón and Jaime de Marichalar in 1995.

Monastery of San Jerónimo de Buenavista is a former monastery located in the San Jerónimo neighborhood of Seville, Andalusia, Spain. It was founded in 1414 by Father Diego Martínez de Medina. On 27 August 1964, it was declared a Historical-Artistic Monument. In 1966, it was bought by Carmen Iglesias Zubiada, who turned it into a private residence. In 1984, it was acquired by the Seville City Council. In 2015, it was turned into a neighborhood civic center.

The Cemetery of San Fernando (Spanish: El Cementerio de San Fernando) is located in the San Jerónimo district, north of the city of Seville, Andalusia, Spain. It was built in 1852, and it is the only municipal cemetery in the city. It has an area of 28 hectares (69 acres) and is considered as one of the most famous cemeteries in Spain.

Italica (Spanish: Itálica) north of modern-day Santiponce, 9 km northwest of Seville in southern Spain, was an Italic settlement founded by the Roman general Scipio in the province of Hispania Baetica. It was the birthplace of Roman Emperors Trajan, Hadrian, and possibly Theodosius. It flourished under the reign of Hadrian, becoming an elaborate urban centre and achieving a significant political and economic status in the region. The modern town of Santiponce overlies the pre-Roman Iberian settlement and part of the well-preserved Roman city.

The Battle of Italica was fought in 75 BC between a rebel army under the command of Lucius Hirtuleius a legate of the Roman rebel Quintus Sertorius and a Roman Republican army under the command of the Roman general and proconsul of Hispania Ulterior Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius. The battle was fought near Italica (a Roman colony in Spain) and ended in a stunning victory for the Metellan army.

The Roman amphitheatre of Italica (Spanish: Anfiteatro romano de Itálica) is a ruined Roman amphitheatre situated in the Roman settlement of Italica, present-day Santiponce, in Andalusia, Spain. It was built during the reign of emperor Hadrian, approximately between the years 117 and 138, and was one of the largest in the entire Roman Empire.

The Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo (Spanish: monasterio de San Isidoro del Campo) is a monastery located in Santiponce, Spain. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural (Spanish Property of Cultural Interest) in 1872.The monastery was founded in 1301 by Alonso Pérez de Guzmán. The interior houses an altarpiece by Juan Martínez Montañes.
