The county was created in 1855 and organized the following year. It is named for Isaac Parker, a state legislator who introduced the bill that established the county in 1855. Parker later fought in the Texas Brigade.Parker County is included in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan statistical area.

The United Methodist and the Church of Christ Church buildings are located just west of the town square behind the seed company.On February 22, 1996, an eight-month drought brought fires to Poolville, destroying hundreds to thousands of acres of land.The rodeo announcer Bob Tallman operates a ranch near Poolville.Orville Bullington, a Wichita Falls attorney and the 1932 Republican gubernatorial nominee against Miriam A. Ferguson, was raised in Poolville.

KZEE (1220 kHz Radio Hot Pepper 1220 AM) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Weatherford, Texas, and serving the western section of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It is owned by Tarrant Radio Broadcasters and airs a South Asian radio format featuring Bollywood music and talk. Most of the schedule is brokered programming, where hosts buys time on the station and may use it to advertise their clients while doing their shows. KZEE broadcasts by day at 1,600 watts. But at night, to protect other stations on 1220 AM, it reduces power to 200 watts. A directional antenna is used at all times. The transmitter is on Lucas Street at Eden Road in Weatherford.

Garner Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Garner, Texas (USA). Until the year 2021, Garner was the only school district in Parker County that taught prekindergarten through 8th grade, and students went to other districts to complete high school. The district had one school – Garner School – and about half of the school's students transferred to Garner from nearby school districts. Now Garner ISD features a full secondary program and will have its first high school graduates in the year of 2025. In 2009, the school district was rated "recognized" by the Texas Education Agency.

The Parker County Courthouse is an historic building located at Courthouse Square in Weatherford, Texas, the seat of Parker County. Built in 1884–1886, it was the county's fourth courthouse; the first was a wooden building, and the second and third both burned down. Architect Wesley Clark Dodson, who designed at least six courthouses in Texas, designed the Second Empire building. The three-story limestone building is visually divided into five bays; the end and central bays are projecting and feature stone pilasters at their corners. The second-story windows are tall and arched, and the roof line features bracketing around the eaves. The red shingled roof has two mansards atop the ends and a three-story tower in the center; each piece features dormers and a widow's walk, while the tower has louvers and a clock on its upper stories.The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on 1965.

Texas State Highway 51 passes through the east side of the CDP, leading northeast 5 miles (8 km) to Springtown and southwest 10 miles (16 km) to Weatherford, the Parker county seat. Fort Worth is 29 miles (47 km) to the southeast.
