Downtown Transit Center

The Houston tunnel system is a network of subterranean, climate-controlled, pedestrian walkways that links 95 full city blocks 20 feet (6 m) below Houston's downtown streets. It is approximately six miles (9.7 km) long. There are similar systems in Chicago, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Montreal, and Toronto. Architectural historian Stephen Fox has stated that the idea for the tunnel system came when the Bank of the Southwest Building was "linked by tunnel to the 1010 Garage and the Mellie Esperson Building" in 1961.

The Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart is a place of worship located at 1111 St. Joseph Parkway in downtown Houston. The co-cathedral seats 1,820 people in its 32,000-square-foot (3,000 m2) sanctuary. Together with the venerable St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica in Galveston, Sacred Heart serves more than 1.2 million Roman Catholics in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston–Houston (Latin: Archidiœcesis Galvestoniensis–Houstoniensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical jurisdiction or archdiocese of the Catholic Church in the United States. It encompasses 8,880 square miles (23,000 km2) of ten counties in the southeastern area of Texas: Galveston, Harris, Austin, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Grimes, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Walker and Waller. The chancery of the archdiocese is located in Downtown Houston. The archdiocese's first cathedral church is St. Mary Cathedral Basilica in Galveston, with a co-cathedral, the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, located in Downtown Houston. The co-cathedral is used for all major archdiocesan liturgies.

Houston House Apartments is a 31-story apartment complex in the Skyline District of Downtown Houston, Texas, United States. The building, located in the southern portion of Downtown, has 396 apartments. Charles M. Goodman designed the building, which opened in 1966. Since 1983 Larry Hill of Sumar Realty Corp. and a group of investors have owned the building as part of a partnership. As of 2007 the building had a 90% occupancy rate, and it was one of the few residential buildings in Downtown Houston that had been in operation for around 40 years.Several years prior to 2010, the owners tried to sell the building to a Chicago company, NVG Residential. NVG planned to close on the property in January 2008. After the planned acquisition NVG planned to install new windows, re-paint the exterior, improve the lobby and the 9th and 10th floor amenity areas. In the amenity areas the company planned to install a business and fitness center, and updated club house, a basketball court, a pool, and an outdoor dining area. The deal with the Chicago firm failed. By 2010 Hill and his business partners began a planned over $10 million renovation of the building.In 2007 a vehicle driving in the apartment complex's garage punched through the wall of the garage and landed wheels up on another downtown building. The driver died in the crash.

The ExxonMobil Building (formerly the Humble Building) was built in 1963 in Houston. At that time it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River at 606 ft (185 m), surpassing the Southland Center in Dallas (the previous record holder). It remained the tallest building west of the Mississippi only until 1965, when Elm Place was built in Dallas. As of 2011, ExxonMobil is the owner of the building. One of the most distinctive features of the building is the cantilevered seven-foot-wide shades (2.1 m) on each floor that protrude from the side of the building to provide shade from the daytime sun. Currently, the JPMorgan Chase Tower, completed in 1982 is Houston's tallest building, and the tallest building in Texas, at 1,002 ft (305 m). The building is two blocks east of 1500 Louisiana Street; a parking lot is between the two buildings.The architect of the International style structure was Welton Becket and Associates. During the Houston Astros' 2004 NLCS run (playoffs), the top of the building was crowned by hundreds of tiny blue lights while an enormous Astros star (logo) made of white lights was hung on the south side of the building.In 2011 the company announced that all employees in the ExxonMobil building are moving to the new ExxonMobil office in Spring. ExxonMobil did not state what it plans to do with the building after the employees leave.In January 2013, Shorenstein Properties announced it had acquired the property for an undisclosed amount. ExxonMobil immediately leased back the entire building into 2015. Shorenstein Properties announced plans to undertake significant improvements following ExxonMobil's departure.In 2015 Mayor of Houston Annise Parker proposed moving municipal court and Houston Police Department operations into the ExxonMobil building. Charles McClelland, the head of HPD, stated that having so many law enforcement and public safety agencies concentrated in a single building may be a safety risk, citing the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. In September 2015 Parker's administration announced that the plan would not move forward due to concerns over costs.

KBR Tower (formerly the M. W. Kellogg Tower) is a 550 ft (167.6 m) tall skyscraper in Downtown Houston, Texas, United States; it is a part of the Cullen Center complex. The KBR Tower has the headquarters of KBR, Inc., an engineering, procurement, and construction company.The 40 story building has about 1,047,748 square feet (97,339.0 m2) of rentable office space. The design architect was Neuhaus & Taylor, the general contractor was Linbeck Construction Company, the mechanical engineer was Sam P. Wallace, and the structural engineer was Ellisor Engineering, Inc. The building was completed in 1973.

Bell station is a METRORail light rail station in Houston, Texas. The station was opened on January 1, 2004 and is operated by the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO). It is located at the intersection of Main Street and Bell Street in Downtown Houston. This is the fourth station heading south along the rail line.

Cullen Center is a skyscraper complex in Downtown Houston, Texas, United States. The complex is now managed by Brookfield Properties. Previously Trizec Properties owned all four office buildings. The complex includes the headquarters of the Houston Fire Department and KBR, and it formerly included the headquarters of Continental Airlines. The buildings include 1600 Smith (formerly Continental Center I), 600 Jefferson (formerly Continental Center II), KBR Tower, and 500 Jefferson Street.

The Benjamin Apartments is a building in Midtown, Houston listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by local architect, Alfred C. Finn, and completed in 1924. It was first an owner-occupied four-plex. Later it was used as a hospital in 1945, converted to single-family residential use in 1970, and after 1997, re-purposed as law offices. The building was vacant through most of the 1950s and 1960s.

Wedge International Tower, usually capitalized as WEDGE International Tower, is a skyscraper in Houston, Texas. The building was formerly known as the Southwest Bank of Texas Building, Unitedbank Plaza, and 1415 Louisiana. The building rises 551 feet (168 m) in height. It contains 43 floors, and was completed in 1983. Wedge International Tower currently stands as the 21st-tallest building in the city. The architectural firms who jointly designed the building were 3D/International and Nasr/Penton & Associates. The building is currently named after its primary tenant, WEDGE Commercial Properties; the firm purchased the building in October 1994 at a price between US$25 million and $45 million, and the structure serves as its corporate headquarters. In 1989 Exxon had office space in the Wedge International Tower. Wedge International Tower is noted for having four setbacks in its shape, and for its distinctive lighting scheme, which has been in place since November 1995. The tower was once outlined by neon green-colored lights, inspired by similar lighting on the Bank of America Plaza, the tallest building in Dallas.The 43rd story of Wedge International Tower is home to a restaurant and bar, named The 43rd Restaurant and Lounge; the feature is one of the highest lounges in Houston.Wedge International Tower was the site of a fire in August 1993, which was caused by an electrical fault and damaged the upper floors of the building. There were no fatalities in the incident.

1500 Louisiana Street, formerly Enron Center South, is a 600 ft (183m) tall skyscraper in Houston, Texas. It was completed in 2002 and has 40 floors and a total building area of 1,284,013sq.ft. It is the 17th tallest building in the city and the tallest completed in the 2000s. It was designed by César Pelli.

The Houston Tower was a plan for a 500-story skyscraper conceived in the 1970s to be built in Houston, originally designed as a research project for the feasibility of a 500-story building. American Architect Robert B. Sobel of Emery Roth & Sons, with engineer and fellow American Nat W. Krahl of Rice University, created a concept for a 500-story building made from 200-foot sided bundled triangular tubes. Sobel had theorized the construction of a 500-story building as early as 1974.According to Emery Roth & Sons, the project showed that the technology and materials existed to build a 500-story (or taller) building if someone wished to do so. Since its first inception, it has remained one of the tallest buildings ever fully envisioned, and would have taken up 16 city blocks of 250x250 feet if constructed. Its design features are reminiscent of the Sears Tower, which utilizes a similar construction pattern albeit on a smaller scale.
