Dante, also known as Dante NYC, is a cafe and craft cocktail bar in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The establishment was founded in 1915 as Caffé Dante, an Italian coffeehouse. It was rated the best bar in the world in 2019, in The World's 50 Best Bars publication.Caffé Dante was a favorite of mobsters Vinnie “the Chin” Gigante and Jimmy Lollipops.

The MacDougal–Sullivan Gardens Historic District is a small historic district consisting of 22 houses located at 74–96 MacDougal Street and 170–188 Sullivan Street between Houston and Bleecker Streets in the South Village area of the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The district was designated a New York City landmark in 1967 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The San Remo Cafe was a bar at 93 MacDougal Street at the corner of Bleecker Street in the New York City neighborhood of Greenwich Village. It was a hangout for Bohemians and writers such as James Agee, W. H. Auden, Tennessee Williams, James Baldwin, William S. Burroughs, Gregory Corso, Miles Davis, Allen Ginsberg, Billy Name, Frank O'Hara, Jack Kerouac, Jackson Pollock, William Styron, Dylan Thomas, Gore Vidal, Judith Malina, and many others. It opened in 1925 and closed in 1967.Jack Kerouac described the bar's crowd in his novel The Subterraneans: Hip without being slick, intelligent without being corny, they are intellectual as hell and know all about Pound without being pretentious or saying too much about it. They are very quiet, they are very Christlike. On July 29, 2013, the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation unveiled a plaque at 93 MacDougal Street to commemorate the cafe's rich 42-year lifespan. Musician David Amram, who used to hang out at the San Remo, spoke at the event.

The Hot Feet Club was a popular nightclub in New York City that operated from 1928 until 1933, approximately. The mob-controlled speakeasy attracted "some of the best crowds" of the day, such as boxing champion Gene Tunney and Mayor Jimmy Walker. Like some other clubs, it was racially segregated, with mostly white audiences coming to see mostly black performers. It opened at 11 p.m. but didn't really get going until later. Some performances were broadcast from 1:00 to 1:30 a.m. At different times, bands led by Otto Hardwick and Elmer Snowden were featured. Some of the greatest singers and musicians of the time performed at the club, including Alberta Hunter, pianist and composer Fats Waller, and jazz drummer Chick Webb. With a well-to-do clientele, the performers were well paid, sometimes making $10-15 or as much as $30 in tips per night, equivalent to a week's salary at the time. The relatively small club was located in a storefront at 142 West Houston Street, on the north side of the street between Sullivan Street and MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village, in a building still extant. It was said to be owned principally by Harry Lyons, a reputed gangster from the Bronx, although some sources say it was owned by a man named Walsh who was killed by members of the Chicago mob when he tried to open a second location for the club there, leading to the demise of the Hot Feet Club.

Minetta Creek was one of the largest natural watercourses in Manhattan, New York City, United States. Minetta Creek was fed from two tributaries, one originating at Fifth Avenue and 21st Street, and the other originating at Sixth Avenue and 16th Street. They joined near Fifth Avenue and 11th Street then took a southwesterly course. Minetta Creek's name is thought to have originated from either the Native American term "Manette", meaning "Devil's Water", or the Dutch word "Minnetje", meaning "the little one". Minetta Creek was originally known by the Dutch as Bestevaer's Killetje. During the 18th century, large amounts of wildlife could be seen around the creek. In the early 1820s, the New York City common council commissioned a project to divert Minetta Creek into a covered sewer. The creek was filled in by the mid-19th century, although it persisted as an underground stream through the 20th century. Ever since the creek was covered in the 19th century, there have been debates over whether the creek still exists. Minetta Creek caused flooding in basements and construction sites from the mid-19th century through the mid-20th century. Pools of water were also found at several construction sites along the creek's course.

Father Demo Square is a 0.25-acre (0.10-hectare) triangular park and piazza bounded by Sixth Avenue, Bleecker Street, and Carmine Street in the South Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City. The park is named for Father Antonio Demo, who was the pastor of the neighboring Our Lady of Pompeii Church from 1897 to 1935. The church was relocated to Carmine Street in 1926–1928 to accommodate an extension of Sixth Avenue south of Bleecker Street, which created the triangular plot of land. The park, located opposite Carmine Street from the church, was established in 1923 with the Sixth Avenue extension and the land was improved as a park, being named in a tribute to Demo.The square was renovated in 2007, which entailed the installation of the current stone fountain, the low fence around the square, and the expansion of the sidewalk into Bleecker and Carmine Streets.
