West Kingston is an area of Kingston, Jamaica, that includes the communities of Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town. It is known for violence, gangs, and reggae musicians who have emerged from the area. Violent clashes with police have taken place here, especially in the Tivoli Gardens, including the 2010 Kingston unrest, known locally as the "Tivoli Incursion". CVM Television aired a documentary on this conflict with the military and police that took place in Tivoli Gardens.

The following is a timeline of the history of the city of Kingston, Jamaica.

Trench Town (also Trenchtown) is a neighbourhood located in the parish of St. Andrew, part of which is in Kingston, the capital and largest city of Jamaica. In the 1960s, Trench Town was known as the Hollywood of Jamaica. Today Trench Town is the location of the Trench Town Culture Yard Museum, a National Heritage Site presenting the unique history and contribution of Trench Town to Jamaica. Trench Town is the birthplace of rocksteady and reggae music, as well as the home of reggae and Rastafari ambassador Bob Marley. The neighborhood gets its name from its previous designation as Trench Pen, 400 acres (162 hectares) of land once used for livestock by Daniel Power Trench, an Irish immigrant of the 18th century (descendants of the Earls of Clancarty). The Trench family abandoned the land in the late 19th century. Trench Town is home to the communities of Wilton Gardens [Rema], Federal Gardens, Arnett Gardens [Jungle], Havana, Buckers and others. Trench Town today is also the home of two of Jamaica's top Premier League football club teams, Arnett Gardens and Boys' Town.

The Arnett Gardens Football Club is a Jamaican professional football club based in Kingston, which currently plays in the Jamaica Premier League. The team is based in the Arnett Gardens community of South Saint Andrew, Jamaica, and plays in the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex is a multi-sport facility in Kingston, Jamaica. The complex features a football stadium, futsal, basketball, netball, gym, VIP lounge and administrative offices. It is the home field of Arnett Gardens Football Club and has a capacity of 6,000+. The venue is named in honor of the late Jamaican attorney-at-law and politician Anthony Spaulding. The venue is regularly used to host televised double-headers in the Jamaica Premier League and Jamaica Women's Premier League. In February 2025 the venue was used by Jamaica national football team to host an international friendly versus Trinidad and Tobago.

Denham Town is a predominantly residential neighbourhood in western Kingston, Jamaica. It has a reputation as one of Kingston's more violent areas. It was named in memory of Edward Brandis Denham, Governor of Jamaica 1935–1938.

Kingston College is a all-male secondary school located in Kingston, Jamaica. It occupies two campuses: The Melbourne Park campus on Upper Elletson road and the larger North Street (Clovelly Park) campus. Some 1900 students are enrolled. The school is noted for its strong academic and sports tradition. It also boasts a world class boys’ choir, the Kingston College Chapel Choir that has given concerts across the island and around the world.

Victoria Jubilee Hospital (initially known as the Victoria Jubilee Lying-In Hospital) was founded in 1891 and opened to the public in 1892 in Kingston, Jamaica. The current facility, the largest maternity hospital in the English-speaking Caribbean, features 248 beds and delivers around 8,000 babies annually.

Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) is a public general hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. It is the oldest public hospital in Jamaica and is the main hospital in south eastern Jamaica. The hospital is operated by the South East Regional Health Authority on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Jamaica.

Tivoli Gardens is a neighbourhood in Kingston, Jamaica. Developed as a renewal project between 1963 and 1965, the neighbourhood continued to suffer from poverty. By the late twentieth century it had become a center of drug trafficking activity and social unrest. Repeated confrontations took place between law enforcement and gunmen in the neighbourhood in 1997, 2001, 2005, 2008, and 2010.

Horizon Adult Remand Centre opened in 2002 with a capacity of 1026.It is operated by the Department of Correctional Services for the Ministry of National Security. The prison was featured in Vybz Kartel's music video for the song Conjugal Visit featuring Spice. This is possibly an allusion to his sentencing April 2014.

National Heroes Park (formerly King George VI Memorial Park) is a botanical garden in Kingston, Jamaica. The largest open space in Kingston at 50 acres in size, National Heroes Park features numerous monuments; it is the burial site of many of Jamaica's National Heroes, Prime Ministers and cultural leaders. The neighborhood around the park is also known as National Heroes Park.
