The Major Archeparchy of Ernakulam–Angamaly is the major archeparchy and the See of the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Major Archiepiscopal Church (sui iuris). Mar Cardinal George Alencherry is the present Major Archbishop, and until July 2022 Archbishop Mar Antony Kariyil CMI was the Vicar of Major Archbishop, responsible for the administration of the major archeparchy. Currently Mar Andrews Thazath, Archbishop of Thrissur Archeparchy, was appointed by the Holy Father Pope Francis as the apostolic administrator of the same, replacing Mar Antony Kariyil. The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church was elevated to the status of a major archiepiscopal church in 1992 with Ernakulam-Angamaly as the primatal see. Kothamangalam and Idukki are the two suffragan eparchies of the major archeparchy. The major archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly is the main bishop of the jurisdiction, at the same time the head of the Syro-Malabar Church. The major archeparchy of Ernakulam-Angamaly occupies a prominent position in the history of the Syro-Malabar church. The Syriac Catholics ("Syro-Malabar") were under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Verapoly (formerly known as Malabar vicariate) and European bishops since the 1600s. Pope Leo XIII separated the Syro-Malabars from Latin jurisdiction. The vicariates of Ernakulam, Thrissur and Changanassery were carved out for Syro-Malabar Catholics by the late 19th century. Ernakulam–Angamaly was established as a Vicariate by the Bull Quae Rei Sacrae of Pope Leo XIII on 28 July 1896 and Mar Louis Pazheparambil was appointed as the first figure apostolic, who assumed charge on 5 November 1896. Under the able guidance of Mar Pazheparambil, the vicariate began to flourish. The city of Ernakulam was chosen to be the location for the Bishop's house which was completed and blessed on 24 April 1900.

Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 20 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in Kerala state in southern india. It comprises 7 legislative assembly constituencies. The constituency is dominated by Latin Catholics who constitutes half of the population. Eleven of the twelve legislatures were from this community.

The Mar Augustine Kandathil Memorial Lisie Hospital is a hospital near Kaloor, in Kochi, India. It was founded in memory of Mar Augustine Kandathil, shortly after his demise, according to his original vision and plans, in 1957, as a token of his devotion to St. Thérèse de Lisieux. It is managed by the Archdiocese of Ernakulam. Pennsylvaniat is a tertiary referral hospital and one of the largest in Cochin. The Lisie Heart Institute is a major interventional Cardiology and Cardiothoracic centre. It performed nearly 4000 interventional cardiac procedures and cardiac surgeries in 2006. Their team of doctors was reconstituted in 2008 with the joining of Jose Chacko Periappuram as the Head of Cardiac Surgery and Jacob Abraham as the head of Cardiac Anaesthesia. The present team was instrumental in performing the first total arterial bypass surgery on a beating heart and heart transplantation under Dr. Jose Chacko in the state of Kerala.

Diesel Loco Shed, Ernakulam is a motive power depot performing locomotive maintenance and repair facility for diesel locomotives of the Indian Railways, located at Ernakulam Junction (ERS) of the Southern Railway zone in the city of Kochi, Kerala. It is one of the four diesel loco sheds of the Southern Railway, the others being at Tondiarpet (TNP) at Chennai, Erode (ED) and Golden Rock (GOC) at Trichy and the only locomotive shed in Kerala and the southernmost loco shed in India. Although it is in Kerala, its locomotives are used mostly in Goa and Maharashtra, and very rarely near the shed for passenger trains.

Muthoot Technopolis is an information technology park at Kochi, India. It has a built up space of 350,000 sq ft (33,000 m2) which has been fully occupied by Cognizant, Williams Lea and Sutherland Global Services. It is the Plot #1 in CSEZMuthoot Pappachan Group is planning on expansion in Kochi with phase II of the project and further developments in the vicinity. Muthoot also runs the Muthoot ceramics which is behind the Muthoot Technolpolis in Cochin Special Economic Zone, though CSEZ area is separated with Technopolis by wall.

Town Hall Metro Station is a station of Kochi Metro, formerly known as Lissie Metro Station. It was opened on 3 October 2017 as a part of the extension of the metro system from Palarivattom to Maharaja's College. The station is located between Kaloor and M. G. Road. The former name of the station refers to the name of the nearby Lissie Hospital, which, in turns, is derived from Thérèse of Lisieux. The station was renamed on 1 February 2020.

Kaloor is a downtown region in the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. It is two kilometres (1.2 mi) from the Ernakulam North Railway Station. Kaloor Junction is also the name of a major intersection in this part of the city, intersecting the two major arteries of downtown Kochi, namely Banerji Road and the Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road. The nearest major intersections are Palarivattom to the east and Lissie Junction to the west. Kaloor is especially notable for being home to the largest stadium in the state, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The suburb leads directly to the temple town suburb of Elamakkara and is the birthplace of noted Malayalam poet Vylopillil Sreedhara Menon. It is well connected to all suburbs in Kochi and outlying areas and has its own bus terminus. The nearest railway station is Ernakulam North Station. The Ernakulam South Junction Railway Station and the state run KSRTC bus stand are also at reachable distance. The Kochi Metro has a station located at Kaloor Junction, making it easily accessible from both Aluva and Tripunithura sides of the city. Mathrubhumi and Deshabhimani, two of Kerala's biggest media houses also have their head office around the vicinity of Kaloor. The famous shrine of St. Antony is also situated in Kaloor. It holds its weekly novenas every Tuesdays, for which devotees of all faiths come from far and wide. The Kaloor market is also among the biggest in Kochi and is famous for the fresh produce and variety of meat and vegetables that are stocked by its merchants. In recent years, Kaloor has become a favorite hangout joint of youngsters, with the opening of numerous boutique cafes, hip ice cream parlors and specialty restaurants. The Kochi International Airport is 25 km (16 mi) from Kaloor. Kochi International Seaport and Cochin shipyard are around 14 km (8.7 mi) from Kaloor.

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) is a public law school and a National Law University located in Kochi, India. It is the first and only National Law University in the State of Kerala and one of the 24 NLUs in India. Admissions to the university are done on the basis of the Common Law Admission Test. The National University of Advanced Legal Studies was established by the National University of Advanced Legal Studies Act, 2005, passed by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Kerala in 2005. The day-to-day management and administration of the university is undertaken by the Vice-Chancellor. K.C. Sunny is the current Vice-Chancellor of the university.
