Hanover Historic District

Pennsylvania's 19th congressional district was a congressional district that became obsolete for the 113th Congress in 2013, due to Pennsylvania's slower population growth compared to the rest of the nation. In its last incarnation, the district included all of Adams and York Counties, and parts of Cumberland County. The last representative was Republican Todd Russell Platts, who decided to retire at the end of the 112th Congress. Most of the 19th district remained intact and was renumbered as the 4th district.

Hanover is a borough in York County, Pennsylvania, United States, 19 miles (31 km) southwest of York and 54 miles (87 km) north-northwest of Baltimore, Maryland and is 5 miles (8.0 km) north of the Mason-Dixon line. The town is situated in a productive agricultural region. The population was 16,429 at the 2020 census. The borough is served by the 717 area code and the ZIP Codes of 17331–34. Hanover is named after the German city of Hannover. The site of the final encounter between the Union and Confederate States armies before they fought against each other in the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War, this borough has since become known as the "Snack Food Capital of the World" due to the establishment of multiple food manufacturing businesses there during the 20th century.

Eichelberger High School, also known as Hanover Middle School and Eichelberger Academy, is a historic high school building located at Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1896, and altered and expanded in 1931-1932, with few design elements from the original building remaining. It is a five-part brick building in the Georgian Revival style, with a main building flanked by two wings connected by hyphens. The main building features a portico supported by six Ionic order columns and topped by a hipped roof and cupola.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. It is located in the Hanover Historic District.

The Battle of Hanover took place on June 30, 1863, in Hanover in southwestern York County, Pennsylvania, as part of the Gettysburg Campaign of the American Civil War. Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart's Confederate cavalry, which was riding north to get around the Union Army of the Potomac, attacked a Federal cavalry regiment, driving it through the streets of Hanover. Brig. Gen. Elon Farnsworth's brigade arrived and counterattacked, routing the Confederate vanguard and nearly capturing Stuart himself. Stuart soon counterattacked. Reinforced by Brig. Gen. George A. Custer's Michigan Brigade, Farnsworth held his ground, and a stalemate ensued. Stuart was forced to continue north and east to get around the Union cavalry, further delaying his attempt to rejoin Robert E. Lee's army, which was then concentrating at Cashtown Gap west of Gettysburg.

The Picket (1905) is an equestrian sculpture by Cyrus E. Dallin in Hanover, Pennsylvania. The work is also referred to by the titles Cavalryman and The Sentry. The sculpture is made of cast bronze and sits on a granite pedestal measuring twelve feet by eight feet. The total height of both the sculpture and the pedestal is twenty feet.The sculpture was erected on September 28, 1905, having been paid for by the state of Pennsylvania. It stood in a roundabout in the middle of Hanover’s Center Square until it was moved in 1968; since then, it has stood north of the square outside 30 Center Square, Hanover.The sculpture commemorates the Battle of Hanover, which took place on June 30, 1863. The Picket does not represent a particular participant in the Battle of Hanover; instead, it commemorates all of the unnamed cavalrymen whose names have been lost to history.

The George Nace (Neas) House, also known as Neas House, is a historic home located at High and West Chestnut Streets in the historic district of the Borough of Hanover in York County, Pennsylvania.Built circa 1783 by Mathias Neas, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
