Winhall River

The South Londonderry Village Historic District encompasses a significant portion of the historic developed area of the village of South Londonderry, Vermont. The village has a well-preserved mid-19th century core, with most of its major development history taking place between about 1806 and 1860. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Ball Mountain Dam (National ID # VT00001) is a dam in Jamaica, Windham County, Vermont, in the southeastern part of the state. The earthen and gravel gravity dam was constructed between 1957 and 1961 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, with a height of 247 feet (75 m) and a length of 915 feet (279 m) at its crest. It impounds the West River of Vermont for flood control. The dam is owned and operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps identified safety and seepage problems with the dam in 2009, and has assigned it a Dam Safety Action Class rating of DSAC II, or "Urgent".The reservoir it creates, Ball Mountain Reservoir, has a normal water surface of 20 acres (8.1 ha), a maximum capacity of 52,450 acre-feet (65 million cubic meters), and a normal capacity of 240 acre⋅ft (300 thousand m3). Recreation includes fishing (for stocked Atlantic salmon, smallmouth bass, and trout), camping at 111 campsites in nearby Winhall and Jamaica, and activities at the adjacent Jamaica State Park. The river between Ball Mountain Lake and downstream Townshend Lake (also operated by the Army Corps of Engineers) is used for white water boating during releases from the Ball Mountain Dam, usually occurring during one weekend in April and one weekend in September.

South Londonderry is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Londonderry, Windham County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 147. The center of the village comprises the South Londonderry Village Historic District. The CDP is in northwestern Windham County, in the south-central part of the town of Londonderry. It sits on both sides of the West River, a southeast-flowing tributary of the Connecticut River. Vermont Route 100 passes through the community, leading north 2.5 miles (4.0 km) to Londonderry village and south 9 miles (14 km) to Jamaica.

The Londonderry Town House, or the Londonderry Town Hall is the town hall of Londonderry, Vermont. It is located on Middletown Road in the village of South Londonderry. Built in 1860, its architecture encapsulates the changing functions of this type of public venue through more than 100 years of history. Magic Mountain is a ski resort located on Glebe Mountain in Londonderry, Vermont. It features a 1,500-foot vertical drop. The summit is at 2,850 feet and the base at 1,350 feet. Magic has a long history, dating from the 1960s when ski instructor and film-maker Hans Thorner founded the area as its terrain reminded him of his native Swiss Alps. Part of Vermont's original "Golden Triangle" of ski areas all within 10 miles of each other (Stratton Mountain Resort and Bromley Mountain the other two large areas), Magic thrived in the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s. Eventually, Magic was purchased by Boston Concessions, which also owned Bromley in the mid-1980s. After a downturn in the real-estate market starting in the late 1980s, Bromley decided to close Magic in 1991. The multi-year closure in the 1990s ended in 1997 and Magic reopened to the public and regained a small, but passionate following among ski enthusiasts because of its classic, challenging terrain. However, the ski area also struggled through multiple owners, operators, and aging infrastructure during the 2000s, even as it continued to slowly expand its customer base. With limited capital reserves and in danger of not opening in 2015 and 2016, the ownership group decided to look for a buyer. A group led by a local Magic skier then raised enough capital to purchase the property and invest over $2 million in significant snowmaking, lift, bar, and lodge improvements. This group, SKI MAGIC LLC, successfully closed on the purchase of Magic in November 2016 and reopened the ski area in late December. SKI MAGIC continues to operate Magic and invest in these critical infrastructure enhancements to improve and sustain the ski area.

Jamaica State Park is a 772-acre state park in Jamaica, Vermont, on the shore of the West River. Activities includes camping, swimming, boating, river fishing, hiking, picnicking, mountain biking, wildlife watching, and winter sports.Facilities include a picnic shelter, 43 tent/trailer sites, 18 lean-to shelters, two rest rooms with hot showers, and firewood and ice available for purchase.There is a nature center, and park rangers offer interpretive programs including night hikes, campfire programs, amphibian explorations, and nature crafts and games. The 211-acre Hamilton Falls Natural Area is located in the park. Cobb Brook includes several waterfalls, and Hamilton Falls drops 40 to 50 feet into a large pool. There is a trail to the top and bottom of the falls.The park includes a 2-mile section of the 16-mile West River Trail, a universally-accessible trail along the old railbed for the West River Railroad. The trail leads up to Ball Mountain Dam.

As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 174, compared to 1,005 in the entire town. The CDP is in northwestern Windham County, in the center of the town of Jamaica. It sits on the eastern side of the Green Mountains in the valley of Ball Mountain Brook where it joins the West River, a southeast-flowing tributary of the Connecticut River. Jamaica State Park is on the West River on the northern edge of the village. 1,755-foot (535 m) Ball Mountain rises to the north over the West River, while 2,093-foot (638 m) College Hill rises to the west. Vermont Routes 30 and 100 pass through the center of Jamaica together. Route 30 leads northwest over the Green Mountains 20 miles (32 km) to Manchester Center and southeast down the West River valley 26 miles (42 km) to Brattleboro, while Route 100 leads north 11 miles (18 km) to Londonderry and south 25 miles (40 km) to Wilmington.

Lowell Lake State Park is a day use state park on 102-acre Lowell Lake in Londonderry, Vermont. Activities includes hiking, non-motorized boating, fishing, picnicking, wildlife watching, and winter sports. There is an informal car top boat launch but no restroom or other facilities. The Lowell Lake Trail is a loop approximately 3.5 miles in length, which encircles the lake. Along the trail is a Revolutionary War-era cemetery.

The community is located along Vermont Route 30, 10 miles (16 km) east of the village of Manchester.
