Niittykumpu metro station

Niittykumpu (Finnish) or Ängskulla (Swedish) is a district of Espoo, a city in Finland. The districts belongs to the major district of Suur-Tapiola. The district, partly located on the eastern lands of the former Gräsa manor, started developing along with the rest of southern Espoo in the 1930s when the street Jorvaksentie (now known as the Länsiväylä highway) was completed. The first significant construction phase of Niittykumpu happened during the 1960s and 1970s, when a large number of terraced houses were built in the area because of rapid growth of the city of Espoo. Construction slowed down during the early 1990s depression in Finland. Construction picked up pace again in the 2000s and increased even further during the construction of the Länsimetro transport line. The oldest lower stage primary school, the Niittykumpu school, is located in Niittykumpu. The automobile dealership concentration around the street Merituulentie has been called "the automobile street of Espoo", even though some of the dealerships have slowly moved away from Niittykumpu because of further construction of Länsimetro. At the turn from 2021 to 2022 Niittykumpu had a population of 7,085 and a population density of 3,374 people per square kilometre. Niittykumpu is served by the Länsimetro line belonging to the trunk routes of the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority, and the Niittykumpu metro station is located in connection with the metro centre located in southern part of the district and the shopping centre Niitty.

The Haukilahti water tower is located in Haukilahti in southern Espoo, Finland. The water tower was built in 1968 and is owned by the Espoo waterworks. The diameter of the tower is 45.3 m and it has two water containers—one inside the other—with a total volume of 4100 m³.: 72–77  The height of the tower is 45.3 m and from sea level 76.3 m.: 51 The tower was designed by architect Erkko Virkkunen and engineer Ilmari Hyppänen.: 72–77 The top part of the water tower houses a restaurant called Haikaranpesä ("Stork's nest"). A scene of the Finnish film Musta jää was filmed in the restaurant. The water tower is considered a landmark in southern Espoo. The widow of architect Erkko Virkkunen has said that the futuristic appearance of the water tower was inspired by the animated series The Jetsons. The upper part of the tower resembles a flying saucer. It has also been compared to the Space Needle in Seattle, United States. Construction of the water tower was the first time a technique where concrete elements built on the ground were hydraulically pulled upwards was used in Finland.

Matinkylä (Finnish: [ˈmat̪inˌkylæ]; Swedish: Mattby, Finland Swedish: [ˈmatˌby]; both literally translated the "village of Matt/Matti") is one of the major districts of Espoo, a city on the southern coast of Finland. Matinkylä sits between the Länsiväylä highway and the coast of the Gulf of Finland, between the areas of Haukilahti and Iivisniemi.The middle part of Matinkylä consists of high apartment buildings, whereas the southern part consists of terraced houses and shorter apartment buildings. There are also some detached houses and paired houses in the area. Iirislahti in eastern Matinkylä, as well as Nuottalahti, Nuottaniemi and Koukkuniemi in southern Matinkylä consist of smaller houses. Matinkylä also has a marine area with many islands, such as Iso Vasikkasaari and Miessaari. About 30,000 people live in the Greater Matinkylä area, consisting of Matinkylä itself and the neighbouring areas of Olari and Henttaa. Iso Omena, one of Finland's biggest shopping malls, is situated in Matinkylä. Matinkylä was the final stop of the Länsimetro, until the extension to Kivenlahti was finished on December 2022.

Olari (Finnish) or Olars (Swedish) is a district of the city of Espoo, Finland. Olari is located about 15 kilometres west of central Helsinki, north of the Länsiväylä highway and Matinkylä. The district has a population of about 15,000. The district is famous for its contribution to the Finnish rap culture. One of the most notable landmarks of the district is Olari Church and Parish Centre, designed by architects Simo and Käpy Paavilainen, and completed in 1981.

Haukilahti (Swedish: Gäddvik) is a neighbourhood in Espoo, Finland. It is located on the seashore of the Gulf of Finland in the southern part of the city. Haukilahti is quiet and has many forested areas and parks. Right across the road from the main residential area is the Toppelund forest, beyond which lies the seashore. The Finnish name "Haukilahti" and the Swedish name "Gäddvik" both translate to "bay of pikes", referring to the narrow bay at the mouth of the Gräsaån stream. The modern history of Haukilahti starts from the 16th century, but most of the development to its current state happened in the decades after World War II, when many new detached houses and apartment buildings were built in the area. After the war, Haukilahti grew from a small vacation spot for Helsinkians into a suburb of six thousand inhabitants, which also caused its main income to change from agriculture to services and trade.

Mattlidens Gymnasium is a Swedish speaking upper secondary school in Espoo, Finland. It was founded in 1977 as a standalone upper secondary school from Drumsö Svenska Samskola. With nearly 700 students, the school is the largest Swedish speaking high school in Finland. The school is an International Baccalaureate affiliate school, with about 150 students studying for the IB Diploma. The non-IB students opt to study towards the Swedish-speaking version of the Finnish Matriculation Exam (see: Studentexamen). IB intake is usually 50 students.In the Finnish Matriculation Examination, Mattlidens Gymnasium has consistently placed in the top 10%.

Länsiviitta (Finnish for "west cardinal mark") is a shopping centre in Haukilahti, Espoo, Finland. The shopping centre was opened in 1990, replacing the SPAR and Alepa grocery stores that formerly stood at the site.: 68 The Länsiviitta shopping centre is in two separate parts forming a symmetrical whole. The main entrance way to the shopping centre is from between the parts, with separate entrance to the western and eastern buildings. The western building hosts an S-market grocery store and restaurants E.T. Charlie and Tokka Pizza. The eastern building hosts a kindergarten.

Urheilupuisto (Finnish) or Idrottsparken (Swedish) (lit. English "Sports park") is an underground metro station in Espoo on the Länsimetro (‘Western Metro’) extension of Helsinki metro. The station is located in western Tapiola, at the northern edge of Jousenpuisto Park and south of the Tapiolan Urheilupuisto (Swedish: Hagalunds idrottspark; ‘Tapiola Sports Park‘). A 790-space car park was built next to the metro station and offers elevator access to the station. The station was designed by HKP Architects, in collaboration with many other design firms. During the design stage, the station was known as Jousenpuisto, after the park at its immediate south. The shape of the station building allows natural light to enter at street level and reach down to the platform level via the escalators. The metro station has won several international design awards as part of the eight-station first phase of the Länsimetro. Urheilupuisto is unique among metro stations in Espoo, as it is not built into the bedrock. The station platform is located at a depth of about 27 meters below street level. Urheilupuisto station was designed to operate with only one entrance (on the western side of the building) but, in response to passenger feedback, an entrance was constructed in the eastern side and opened on 29 February 2020. The station is located 1,1 kilometres east from Niittykumpu metro station and 1,3 kilometres west from Tapiola metro station.

Tapiolan urheilupuisto (Swedish: Hagalunds idrottspark, 'Tapiola Sports Park') is a sports park in the Tapiola district of Espoo, Finland. The park includes several sports halls and football pitches, as well as the multipurpose Espoo Metro Areena. The Urheilupuisto metro station, which connects the park to the Länsimetro, was opened in 2017.

Espoo Metro Areena (known from 1999 to January 2009 as LänsiAuto Areena, and from 2009 to October 2015 as Barona Areena) is an arena in the Tapiola District of Espoo, Finland. The arena is sponsored by Hesburger, Finland's largest fast food hamburger chain and is part of the Tapiolan Urheilupuisto (Tapiola Sports Park). It was inaugurated in 1999 and holds 6,982 people for ice-hockey games or up to 8,000 for concerts.

Suur-Matinkylä (Finnish) or Stor-Mattby (Swedish) is a southern main district of Espoo, a city in Finland. It contains the districts Henttaa, Matinkylä and Olari.

Iso Omena (Finnish for "Big Apple") is a shopping centre in Matinkylä, Espoo, Finland, opened on September 24, 2001. The construction of Iso Omena aimed to, as far as possible, take heed of the wishes of the population of Espoo. Because of this, Iso Omena includes many centralised municipal and private services. Iso Omena also includes apartments, with a direct connection to the shopping centre. The name "Iso Omena" comes from the nickname "The Big Apple" of New York City in the United States. Iso Omena includes over 200 businesses. The total area for rent is approximately 108,700 m2 (1,170,000 sq ft). The building has 3 to 4 floors, parking garages under ground and a separate parking building and an office tower.
