Kettwig is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany on the Ruhr Valley Railway.

Kettwig is the southernmost borough of the city of Essen in western Germany and, until 1975, was a town in its own right. Kettwig is situated next to the Ruhr river, at a median height of 53 metres above sea level. It is the most recently incorporated borough of Essen and also the largest in area, at 15.3 km². It belongs to the city district Stadtbezirk IX Werden/Kettwig/Bredeney and has 17,760 inhabitants as of June 2006.

Essen-Werden is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany. It serves the southern city borough Werden and is situated on the bank of the river Ruhr at the junction of the Ruhr Valley Railway and the line to Essen. The station was opened in 1872 as part of the Düsseldorf-Werden-Kupferdreh line of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn. In 1877, a line to Essen opened. Passenger services on the line to Kupferdreh closed on 29 May 1965.The station today sees regular service by Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn trains on the S6 line since 1974. Trains currently run in 20-minute intervals.

Nürnberger Flugdienst Flight 108 was a scheduled regional flight which crashed near Essen, Germany, on 8 February 1988 with the loss of all 21 occupants. The flight was operated by Swearingen SA.227BC Metroliner III D-CABB for Nürnberger Flugdienst, from Hannover Airport to Düsseldorf Airport. It is the deadliest aviation accident involving the Swearingen Fairchild Metroliner.

The Folkwang University of the Arts is a university for music, theater, dance, design, and academic studies, located in four German cities of North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 1927, its traditional main location has been in the former Werden Abbey in Essen in the Ruhr area, with additional facilities in Duisburg, Bochum, and Dortmund, and, since 2010, at the Zeche Zollverein, a World Heritage Site also in Essen. The Folkwang University is home to the international dance company Folkwang Tanz Studio (FTS). Founded as Folkwangschule, its name was Folkwang Hochschule (Folkwang Academy) from 1963 until 2009.

Werden Abbey (German: Kloster Werden) was a Benedictine monastery in Essen-Werden (Germany), situated on the Ruhr.

Heiligenhaus (German pronunciation: [ˈhaɪlɪɡn̩ˌhaʊs]) is a town in the district of Mettmann, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in the suburban Rhine-Ruhr area. It lies between Düsseldorf and Essen. Bochum University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Bochum, formerly Fachhochschule Bochum) has a branch in Heiligenhaus for the development of locking Systems. Heiligenhaus also contains the ancestral family farm of the acclaimed American author John Steinbeck.

Essen-Hügel (formerly Bredeney) station is on the northern shore of the Baldeneysee (Lake Baldeney) in the Essen district of Bredeney in the German state of North Rhine Westphalia. In 1890, it was opened directly next to Hügel Park, the estate of the industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp and the location of the Villa Hügel, which had been built twenty years earlier. The station is located on the Essen-Werden–Essen railway, which connects the Ruhr Valley Railway to Essen Hauptbahnhof.

The Villa Hügel is a 19th-century mansion in Bredeney, now part of Essen, Germany. It was built by the industrialist Alfred Krupp in 1870-1873 as his main residence and was the home of the Krupp family until after World War II. More recently, the Villa Hügel has housed the offices of the Kulturstiftung Ruhr (Ruhr Cultural Foundation), an art gallery, the historical archive of the Krupp family and company, and a concert venue. Hügel simply means “hill”, as the villa sits atop a hill. It was sometimes named Villa Krupp, after the family.
