Borbach (Ruhr)

The Hohenstein is the central forest of Witten, (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). As a forest its name is just "Hohenstein". But "Hohenstein" is also the name of a city-district of Witten's borough "Mitte". It has the district-number 19. As a district it has nearly no population. As a forest the Hohenstein is well known in the region, the "Mittlere Ruhrtal" (Middle Ruhr valley) because of its Berger-Denkmal, from which visitors have a view over the whole Ruhr valley between the cities of Witten and Wetter. The monument was built in remembrance of the German industrialist Louis Constans Berger (1829-1891), whose factory – formerly Gussstahlwerk - is still producing steel for the world market. The factory is now known as Deutsches Edelstahlwerk.

Witten (German: [ˈvɪtn̩] ) is a city with almost 100,000 inhabitants in the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis (district) in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Witten Hauptbahnhof is a railway station in the town of Witten in western Germany. It is situated southwest of the town. In 1849 the station was opened as Witten West by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft. At the end of the 19th century the whole station was reconstructed, the new station building was designed by the architect Richard Witten Sauerbruch and opened in 1901. It is now part of The Industrial Heritage Trail (German: Route Industriekultur). In 1940 the station was renamed Witten Hauptbahnhof.

The Gustav Landauer Library Witten (German: Gustav-Landauer-Bibliothek Witten, GLBW) is a special library in Witten, Germany.

Trotz Allem ("In spite of it all") is a self-managed social centre and youth club in Witten, Germany. The first space was rented from 1999 until 2005. The second space opened in 2006 and reopened after renovations in 2010. The centre hosts various groups and the Gustav Landauer Library Witten.

Witten/Herdecke University is a private, state-recognized, nonprofit university in Witten, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was the first German private institution of higher education to receive accreditation as a "Universität", a status recognizing the university's academic quality equivalent to state-run universities and granting the right to award bachelor's and master's degrees, doctorates, and the German Habilitation. Its foundation and history has often been marked by controversial debates and significant difficulties to establish the new university in the German educational system. In 1995, Times Higher Education noted that the university was considered by some "an idealistic model for the future of German higher education and [by] others ... a carbuncle on the country's fiercely state-dominated university landscape". Today Witten/Herdecke University has succeeded in being recognized as one of Germany's few private universities considered 'Humboldtian' and as a role model in terms of course structures, integration of practical and theoretical training and innovative approaches to payment of tuition fees.In 2019, about 2,500 students are enrolled at the Witten/Herdecke University, with a staff of 582, including faculty of 71 professors and 232 lecturers/researchers. About 100 PhD candidates receive a PhD degree each year from the graduate school. There are also more master's students than bachelor's students, showing the university's strength in graduate education. The university is currently enlarging its campus and increasing the number of students.

Wullen is a city-district of Witten-Annen, which is a part of the City of Witten, (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). Wullen is placed about 3 kilometres northeast of the City of Witten.

Taprogge GmbH is a medium-sized company based in Wetter, Germany. The company is named after founding brothers Ludwig and Josef Taprogge. Founded in 1953, the company is known for its tube cleaning systems for steam turbine condensers, heat exchangers and debris filters for water-cooled shell and tube heat exchangers and condensers.

Witten-Annen Nord station is located in the Annen district of Witten in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The station is currently classified as a category 6 station. It is served by Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn line S 5.

Since 1929, Annen has been a part of the City of Witten (since 1946 North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). As one of the eight boroughs of Witten, it is now called Witten-Annen. Before the incorporation with Witten in 1929, Annen was part of the administrative district Landkreis Hoerde. Today, Annen has about 19,000 inhabitants and is the biggest of all boroughs of Witten. Witten-Annen has an institute for Waldorf pedagogics, as well as a Waldorf school. This school annually hosts the international eurythmy festival, Forum Eurythmie. It is served by Witten-Annen Nord station on Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn line S 5 and three bus lines (320, 373 and 375). At the weekend it is also served by night bus line NE 18.

Wannenbach (also: Pferdebach) is a small river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Ruhr near Witten.

The University hospitals of the Ruhr University of Bochum, German Universitätsklinikum der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, abbreviated UK RUB is a syndicate of six university hospitals and associated facilities of the Ruhr University of Bochum. Founded in 2008 by the merger of formally independent hospitals the UK RUB is now a major provider of health in the Ruhr Metropolitan Region treating over 400,000 patients per year with a strong commitment to research and teaching.
