University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

The Libin Cardiovascular Institute is an entity of Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary. It connects all cardiovascular research, education and clinical care in Southern Alberta. The Institute coordinates the activities of over 1,500 individuals in Southern Alberta. Of its more than 175 research and clinician members, over 75 are cardiologists, making it the largest heart or cardiovascular institute in Western Canada by that measure. Individuals affiliated with the Libin Cardiovascular Institute have provided significant leadership and input to the Canadian Heart Health Strategy and Action Plan (CHHS-AP). Institute participation included Eldon Smith OC, MD, FRCPC who was appointed as Chair of the Steering Committee by the Federal Canadian Minister of Health in 2006, as well as Norman Campbell MD, FRCPC, also a member of the CHHS-AP Steering Committee.

The University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine was established in 1967 and renamed the Cumming School of Medicine in 2014. It is one of two medical schools in Alberta and one of 17 in Canada. The Faculty and medical school is linked to the hospitals in Alberta Health Services such as Foothills Medical Centre, Alberta Children's Hospital, Rockyview General Hospital and Chinook Regional Hospital. Trainees in faculty of medicine include 486 medical students (UME), 767 residents (PGME), 190 post doctoral fellows (PDF) and 491 graduate students. It is one of two 3 year medical schools, along with McMaster University Medical School, in Canada. In addition, the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Health Sciences degree and a Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies degree.

Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) is the largest hospital in the province of Alberta and is located in the city of Calgary. It is one of Canada's most recognized medical facilities and one of the leading research and teaching hospitals. Foothills Medical Centre provides advanced healthcare services to over two million people from Calgary, and surrounding regions including southern Alberta, southeastern British Columbia, and southern Saskatchewan. Formerly operated by the Calgary Health Region, it is now under the authority of Alberta Health Services and part of the University of Calgary Medical Centre. The main building of the hospital was opened in June 1966. It was originally named Foothills Provincial General Hospital and later known simply as Foothills Hospital. With the addition of other medical facilities, it became known by its present name.

Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC) is a tertiary care facility for Southern Alberta, named for the founding chairman of the Alberta Cancer Board, and is one of two tertiary cancer centres in the province. It is a lead Cancer Centre in southern Alberta for prevention, research and treatment programs and provides many advanced medical services, as well as supportive care for both inpatients and outpatients. The Cancer Centre also conducts research through the Charbonneau Cancer Institute and houses a comprehensive palliative care facility. The Cancer Centre is located at the Foothills Medical Centre and is physically attached to the Special Services Building, which too provides special, advanced medical services to patients.

Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (ACCC) is a over 2 million square foot tertiary care facility that replaced the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and is one of two tertiary cancer centres in the province. It features 160 inpatient unit beds, wet and dry research labs, clinical and operational support services, clinical trials unit and research laboratories, Systemic and radiation treatment services, including 15 radiation vaults and on-site underground parking with 1,650 stalls.

Westmount Charter School is a charter school for gifted learners based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada which educates students from kindergarten to grade 12. It was founded in 1996 as ABC (Action for Bright Children) Charter Public School by the Action for Bright Children Society, The school started with 116 students, from grades one to three, and is now hosting a student body of approximately 1,300 in grades kindergarten through 12. The name was officially changed from ABC Charter Public School to Westmount Charter School in 2002, though the school remains publicly funded. Westmount's first graduation occurred in June 2006.

University Heights is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is bordered by the University of Calgary, McMahon Stadium, the Alberta Children's Hospital and Foothills Hospital. It is a relatively small neighbourhood and is bounded to the north by 24 Avenue NW, to the east by University Drive NW, to the south by 16 Avenue NW (Trans-Canada Highway) and to the west by Shaganappi Trail NW. University Heights was established in 1963. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 1 councillor.

Parkdale is a mature, inner city neighbourhood in the city of Calgary, Alberta along the north bank of the Bow River between the communities of West Hillhurst and Point McKay. It is bounded on the south by the Bow River, 28 St NW to the east, Shaganappi Trail NW to the west and on the north by 16th Avenue. Parkdale is in close proximity to both the Foothills Medical Centre and the Alberta Children's Hospital constructed in 2006, as well as the University of Calgary. Memorial Drive provides access to downtown Calgary and to Highway 1 which leads to the Rocky Mountains. Parkdale was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1910 when Calgary began to experience a "major economic and building boom.": 77  The boom ended in 1913 and further development of the Parkdale Addition as it was called, was halted because of World War I. Following World War II in the 1950s the dominant housing type that characterized Parkdale, was the bungalow.: 85  By 2014 Parkdale, like other inner city communities in Calgary, was experiencing gradual gentrification with small cottage-style bungalows being replaced by spacious flat roofed, Prairie School Frank Lloyd Wright inspired infills attracting young families with children away from the long commute suburbs to inner city ease of access to downtown, transit and work.It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 7 councillor, Terry Wong, who is serving his first term after being elected in 2021.

St. Andrews Heights is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded to the north by the Trans-Canada Highway, to the east by Crowchild Trail, to the south by Toronto Crescent, and to the west by 29 Street. The Foothills Medical Centre occupies the northwestern corner of the community, and McMahon Stadium and the Foothills Athletic Park borders to the northeast. The Bow River flows immediately south of the neighbourhood. The area was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1910 and St. Andrews Heights was established in 1953. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 7 councillor.

The Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is North America's first covered speed skating oval; it was built for the 1988 Winter Olympics and opened 36 years ago on September 27, 1987. Located on the University of Calgary campus, it is the official designated training centre for Speed Skating Canada and the Elite Athlete Pathway.

Point Mckay is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded to the north by Bowness Road and to the south by the Bow River. Edworthy Park is located across the river, and is connected by a bridge to Point Mckay. It was part of the town of Montgomery before it was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1963. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 7 councillor. The Provincial electoral division is Calgary-Varsity

The University of Calgary (U of C or UCalgary) is a public research university located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The University of Calgary started in 1944 as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta, founded in 1908, prior to being instituted into a separate, autonomous university in 1966. It is composed of 14 faculties and over 85 research institutes and centres. The main campus is located in the northwest quadrant of the city near the Bow River and a smaller south campus is located in the city centre. The main campus houses most of the research facilities and works with provincial and federal research and regulatory agencies, several of which are housed next to the campus such as the Geological Survey of Canada. The main campus covers approximately 200 hectares (490 acres). A member of the U15, the University of Calgary is also one of Canada's top research universities (based on the number of Canada Research Chairs). The university has a sponsored research revenue of $380.4 million, with total revenues exceeding $1.2 billion. The university maintains close ties to the petroleum and geoscience industry through the Department of Geosciences and the Schulich School of Engineering. The university also maintains several other departments and faculties, including the Cumming School of Medicine, the Faculty of Arts, the School of Public Policy, the Faculty of Law, and the Haskayne School of Business.Notable former students include Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Java computer language inventor James Gosling, Uber co-founder Garrett Camp, astronaut Robert Thirsk, and Lululemon Athletica founder Chip Wilson. The university has produced over 170,000 alumni who reside in 152 countries.
