Blandair, also known as Blandair Farm, Blandair Park, and Blandair Regional Park, is 300 acres of former slave plantation located in Columbia, Maryland. The Blandair Foundation estate of Mrs. Smith was purchased by Howard County, Maryland in the late 1990s and is in the process of being developed as a regional park.

Lake Kittamaqundi is a man made 27-acre (110,000 m2) reservoir located in Columbia, Maryland in the vicinity of the Mall in Columbia as well as Merriweather Post Pavilion. It is also adjacent to offices and visible from US-29.The lake was created by The Rouse Company in 1966 during the development of Columbia. The company and its homeowners association claimed it was named after the first Indian settlement in Howard County and "Kittamaqundi" in the tribe's language translates to "meeting place." Kittamaqundi actually was a 17th-century Piscataway village 40 miles (64 km) south that was named after its ruler, 'Kittamaquund'. "Kittamaqundi" translates to "Great Beaver Place" or "Strong Bear".The area surrounding the lake is a popular location for various summer festivals and 4th of July fireworks.

The Iglehart House (c. 1846) was a historic home located in Columbia, Maryland, Howard County, Maryland, now part of the Rouse Company land development. The Iglehart house was a two bay wide, two and a half bay stucco covered stone house. The stone structure matched construction style of the nearby Hickory Ridge. The house stood on a 113-acre property which was part of an original land grand named "Joseph's gift". The Iglehart family was prominent in Howard county leadership in the early 1800s in the antebellum era of tobacco slave plantations. The farm was later owned by Peter Johnson In 1978, the property was recommended for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places for its historic architecture and excellent condition. Howard Research and Development purchased the property, subdivided the farm and demolished the structure to build an Exxon gas station.

Town Center is one of the ten villages in Columbia, Maryland, United States, first occupied in 1974. The Town Center is a non-contiguous, diverse area, and the most urban-like, ranging from multi-level high density apartments, homes and office buildings to single family homes.The six residential neighborhoods in the village include Amesbury Hill, Banneker, Creighton's Run, Lakefront, Vantage Point, and Warfield Triangle.

Columbia is a census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is a planned community consisting of 10 self-contained villages. The census-designated place had a population of 104,681 at the 2020 census, making it the second most populous community in Maryland after Baltimore. Columbia, located between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., is officially part of the Baltimore metropolitan area. Columbia proper consists only of that territory governed by the Columbia Association, but larger areas are included under its name by the U.S. Postal Service and the Census Bureau. These include several other communities which predate Columbia, including Simpsonville, Atholton, and in the case of the census, part of Clarksville. Columbia began with the idea that a city could enhance its residents' quality of life. Developer James Rouse attempted to create the new community in terms of human values, rather than economics and engineering. Opened in 1967, Columbia was intended to not only eliminate the inconveniences of then-current subdivision design, but also eliminate racial, religious and class segregation.

The Dasher Farm is a historic farm located in Columbia, Howard County, Maryland, now part of the Rouse Company land development. Hammond Dorsey operated Elkhorn plantation on the site. He split the property among his heirs into 90-acre parcels, one of which was purchased by Maureen and Dora Dasher in 1919 creating the Dasher Farm. M.E. Dasher and sons expanded the property to 480 acres in 1949.A stone springhouse with stucco is the sole remaining historical building, left in an unpreserved state.The Dasher Green neighborhood of the Village of Owen Brown is named for the 670-acre Dasher family farm purchased in May 1963 by one of the Rouse Company land acquisition entities. In 1971 the stone farm house was destroyed by fire. The farm was systematically reduced in size between 1971 and 1978, with the last parcel sold for development in 1996. All buildings were demolished to build townhouses named "Cradlerock Farm". Street names are taken from the works of John Greenleaf Whittier.

Owen Brown is one of the ten villages in Columbia, Maryland, United States, established in 1972. Neighborhoods in the village include Dasher Green, Elkhorn and Hopewell. Owen Brown lies south and east of the town center.The village contains the 37-acre (150,000 m2) Lake Elkhorn, with a walking path of two miles (3 km) and a picnic pavilion in the 23-acre (93,000 m2) park.

Oakland or Oakland Manor is a Federal style stone manor house commissioned in 1810 by Charles Sterrett Ridgely in the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland (now Howard County). The lands that became Oakland Manor were patented by John Dorsey as "Dorsey's Adventure" in 1688 which was willed to his grandson Edward Dorsey. In 1785, Luther Martin purchased properties named "Dorsey's Adventure", "Dorsey's Inheritance", "Good for Little", "Chew's Vineyard", and "Adam the First" to make the 2300 acre "Luther Martin's Elkridge Farm".
