The Gioenian Academy (italian: Accademia Gioenia) is a scientific and academic society in Catania, Italy, that was founded in 1824. Today it is closely associated with the University of Catania.

The Palazzo delle Scienze is an notable building located on Corso Italia 55 in Catania, region of Sicily, southern Italy. The building houses the Department of Economy and Business of the University of Catania. It was built between 1935 and 1942 under the designs of Vincenzo Patanè. The architect also completed the Palazzo della Borsa, Catania. The design is a sober classicism favored during the Fascist era with three story white stone and marble facade. Among the offices in the building is the Accademia Gioenia di Catania.

The Catania Jazz Festival is a jazz festival in Catania, Sicily, Italy. An international festival, it has been held since 1983. Sometimes the festival is held at different locations over several months, providing an entire season of jazz performances.

The Garage Musumeci is an notable building, elaborated in a flamboyant Liberty style, and built to house both an automobile showroom on the ground floor and above the apartments of the owner, Baron Musemeci. It is located in Piazza Bovio, at the intersection of Via Conte di Torino and Via Francesco Crispi, in the city of Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. The building was designed by Francesco Fichera, who also designed the Palazzo delle Poste in Catania. The elaborate design was maligned during the Fascist era by Pietro Maria Bardi and the architects of MIAR (Movement for Italian Rational Architecture). The facade has a chamfered corner with a large rounded corner balcony. The walls contain colorful gilded mosaics and large face masks. The ground floor houses a shop selling car parts and accessories. The Palazzo Musumeci on Viale XX Settembre #76 was a residential palace built in a sober late-Baroque style.

Etna Comics – International Festival of Comics, Games and Pop Culture (Italian: Etna Comics – Festival Internazionale del Fumetto, del Gioco e della Cultura Pop) is an annual convention held in Catania, Sicily at the beginning of June. The venue is The Ciminiere convention center (Italian: Centro Fieristico Le Ciminiere). As its name suggests, the festival focuses on comics, cartoons, gaming and pop culture in general. The name Etna Comics refers to Mount Etna, the volcano rising behind the city of Catania. With its 100,000 visitors it is one of the largest comic festivals in Italy, especially in the South.

The Palazzo Rosa is a Liberty style apartment complex located on the seaside Via VI Aprile in the city of Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. The rose color painted palace was erected in 1903-1905 under the direction of the architect Fabio Maiorana. The vertical lines of tall green-framed windows behind small balconies, facing the sea, are interspersed with elaborate designs and motifs.

San Gaetano alle Grotte is a church in Catania, region of Sicily, southern Italy. The flank of this small church faces Piazza Carlo Alberto where the minor basilica church of the Santuario della Madonna del Carmine is located. , The substructure of the church is ancient, putatively built circa 260-300 as a chapel, perhaps a burial chapel, in a lava cave in use as a cistern, and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In the seventh century, a church was built atop, once called Santa Maria La Grotta. In the 8th century, the Muslims either demolished or abandoned that structure. The Norman rulers, restores a church and added the large columns of the upper presbytery. The church was razed by the 1693 Sicily earthquake, and reconstruction was pursued for nearly the entire 18th century, completed only in 1801. The remaining access for the crypt was a steep narrow staircase. In 1958, the church and crypt were restored by the Carmelite friars.

San Cristoforo Minore is a small former-Roman Catholic church or oratory located on the piazza Turi Ferro, formerly of Santo Spirito, near the center of the city of Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. It is putatively now the church of San Leone and owned by the Greek Orthodox parish of Catania, but is mostly closed. The church has a slender Baroque facade and sits on a forgotten, somewhat decrepit, urban island between streets. In the 18th century, the church as associated with a Catholic confraternity: the Congregazione Santissima Maria Addolorata.

The Palazzo delle Poste is an notable building, called a palace, but built for and still housing postal offices. It stands on the west corner of Via Etnea, #288, where it intersects with the start of the Giardino Bellini. The postal building is a neo-baroque creation of the architect Francesco Fichera. Construction began in 1922 and were complete only in 1930. The three facades, along via Etnea, via Angelo Litrico, and via Sant'Euplio are similar. All contain a rusticated ground level set upon a base of dark lava stone. The ground floor is an row of arches, each with a keystone marked by a grotesque mask. The second floors have convex balconies framed by pilasters surmounted by a tympanum with a broken pediment. Behind the balconies are tall glass doors with delicate frames. The decoration throughout is often playful and imaginative. At the northeast corner, some of the decorations are cornucopias, but others appear to resemble complex starfish. The tympanum at this corner has a shell flanked by fish. The metal grate has a liberty style design. The interior courtyard now obscured by further construction, was nearly devoid of such decoration and has a simplistic brick detail more common in Fascist architecture of the time. However, the lively facade distinctly avoids the severe sobriety of contemporary "rationalist" architecture of postal offices such as the Poste palace of Palermo and the Poste palace of Naples. The architect Fichera also designed the Garage Musumeci in Catania.
