The National Sporting Library & Museum or NSLM (formerly the National Sporting Library) is a research library and art museum in Middleburg, Virginia in the United States.

Middleburg is a town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States, with a population of 673 as of the 2010 census. It is the southernmost town along Loudoun County's shared border with Fauquier County. Middleburg is known as the "Nation's Horse and Hunt Capital" for its foxhunting, steeplechases, and large estates. The Middleburg Historic District, comprising the 19th-century center of town, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Gen. William Mitchell House, also known as Boxwood or the Gen. Billy Mitchell House was the country estate and home of General Billy Mitchell (1879–1936) during the last ten years of his life, from 1926 through 1936. Mitchell was an American general who is regarded as the father of the U.S. Air Force. He is regarded as one of the most famous and most controversial figures in American airpower history. The house was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976. It is located about .5 mile south of Middleburg on Virginia Route 626, straddling the county lines of Fauquier and Loudoun Counties. Part of the estate is now home to Boxwood Estate Winery.

The Middleburg Historic District comprises the historic center of Middleburg, Virginia. The district extends along the downtown section of Washington Street, and is flanked on the east by Independence Street and to the west by Constitution Street. The district's commercial area is along Washington and Madison Streets. Middleburg was established in 1787, but the historic district includes a few 18th-century structures, with most dating to the mid-19th century. The district includes the Red Fox Inn & Tavern, the oldest building in town and listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places. Most of the structures in the core of the district are Federal style townhouses.The most notable house in the district is "Chestnut Hill", also known as "The Hill," a large Federal-style house sitting apart surrounded by lawns. The district also features four churches. Little development took place in Middleburg in the late 19th century, and the district includes no examples of Victorian architecture. The district does include a few early 20th-century commercial structures.The Middleburg Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 29, 1982.

The Middleburg Virginia AVA is an American Viticultural Area in the northern Piedmont region of Virginia, 50 miles (80 km) west of Washington, D.C. It is named for the town of Middleburg, Virginia and is bounded by the Potomac River to the north and by mountains in other directions. The hardiness zone of the AVA is 7a.

The Red Fox Inn & Tavern, also known as the Middleburg Inn and Beveridge House, is a historic inn and tavern located in Middleburg, Loudoun County, Virginia. According to the National Register of Historic Places placard on the building, the Red Fox Inn was established circa 1728. Some historic artifacts on the building date to about 1830, with additions and remodelings dating from the 1850s, 1890s, and the 1940s. It consists of a 2 1/2 story-with-basement, five-bay, gable-roofed, fieldstone main block, with a two-story, three-bay, gable-roofed fieldstone rear wing. The front facade features a one-story, one-bay, pedimented porch dating from the 1940s. It has a standing seam metal gable roof and exterior end chimneys. The buildings exhibits design details in the Federal and Colonial Revival styles. It is thought to be one of the oldest continuously operated inns in Virginia as well as the United States. The Red Fox Inn & Tavern has served a variety of functions including: stagecoach stop, inn, tavern, butcher shop, apartment house, post office, and hotel.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The Battle of Middleburg took place from June 17 to June 19, 1863, in Loudoun County, Virginia, as part of the Gettysburg Campaign of the American Civil War. Confederate Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart, screening Robert E. Lee's invasion route, sparred with Maj. Gen. Alfred Pleasonton's Union cavalry. On June 17, Col. Alfred N. Duffié's isolated 1st Rhode Island Cavalry Regiment was attacked by the brigades of Thomas T. Munford and Beverly Robertson. The 1st Rhode Island was routed, taking about 250 casualties. On June 19, J. Irvin Gregg's brigade advanced, driving Stuart's cavalry one mile beyond the town. Both sides were reinforced, and mounted and dismounted skirmishing continued. Stuart was gradually levered out of his position but fell back to a second ridge, still covering the approaches to the Blue Ridge gap.

Burrland Farm Historic District is a historic home and farm complex and national historic district located near Middleburg, Fauquier County, Virginia. The district encompasses 22 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, 14 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object on a 458-acre thoroughbred horse breeding and training farm. The buildings were built between 1927 and 1932, and include a Georgian Revival style training barn, a polo barn, a stallion barn, two broodmare barns, a yearling barn, a field shed, an equipment shed, a farm manager's house / office, a trainer's cottage, a mess hall quarters, a foreman's dwelling, three mash houses, five garages, a pumphouse, and a feed and storage warehouse. The contributing structures include a silo, a springhouse, three loading chutes, two teasing chutes, two rings, three run-in sheds, one sun hut and an entrance gate. The original Burrland house was built in 1879 and expanded in 1927 for William Ziegler Jr. by architect William Lawrence Bottomley. Ziegler sold the property in 1955 to Eleonora Sears, who "deliberately gutted and burned [the mansion] down" in 1961. She then sold the farm in 1966.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Waverly, also known as Waverley, is a historic house located near Middleburg, Fauquier County, Virginia. The original section was built about 1790, and later enlarged about 1830, and enlarged and remodeled in the 1850s. It is a single-pile, center-hall, two-story dwelling, a typical example of an I-house. It has a long, two-story rear ell and has Gothic Revival style decorative detailing. The front facade features a full-width two-story portico with six square piers supporting a flat roof with a plain wooden parapet. The house was renovated after 1940 by architect David Adler.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.Peyton House, built during 1831–34 in Raymond, Mississippi, appears to have been modeled upon Waverly.

The Little River Rural Historic District encompasses a large rural landscape in northeastern Fauquier County. Covering some 23,000 acres (9,300 ha), the district extends from near The Plains in the south to near Middleburg in the north. On the east it is bounded by the Bull Run Mountains, and on the west by Cromwell's Run. The area's landscape typifies the characteristics of the Piedmont region of Virginia, and is devoid of high-density residential, commercial, or industrial activity. Land use is largely devoted to agricultural, equestrian, and hunting pursuits. There are a few places where mills historically operated, and there are three small village centers in the district. A portion of the Middleburg battlefield lies in the northern part of the district, and the district encompasses several previously listed areas, including the Burrland Farm Historic District, the Gen. William Mitchell House (a National Historic Landmark), the Waverly house, Old Denton, and Green Pastures.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Benton, also known as Spring Hill, is a house in Loudoun County, Virginia, near Middleburg. The house was built by William Benton, a brickmaker and builder, around 1831. Benton had made a journey to Wales to collect an inheritance shortly after 1822 and there saw a house that he admired and wished to replicate on his own lands. He called the house "Spring Hill."
