Hamilton High School is a public high school in Memphis, Tennessee, located at 1363 E Person Avenue. Enrollment is 646 as of the 2019–2020 school year and the school is part of the Shelby County School District.The school has a Junior ROTC program and requires a school uniform.Hamilton High School graduates were among the Memphis State Eight that broke the color barrier at Memphis State in 1959. There was a clash between students and police during the Martin Luther King era. In 2011 organizers rallied to save the high school from closing.School colors are royal blue and white. Wildcats are the mascot, and the school motto is "Love Hamilton Absolutely".Former NFL player Curtis Weathers served as principal in 2015 and sought to transition the school into a Charter School. The school was part of a grade tampering controversy at several Shelby County schools in 2017 and had its principal demoted to a teaching position as a result.97% of students are black as of 2020. Student scores are very low on math and reading proficiency state exams.

The W.C. Handy Theatre was a movie theater at 2355 Park Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. The venue was built for the African-American community during segregation. The theater was opened in 1947 and it also served music venue. The building was demolished in 2012.

Glenview Historic District is a neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in 1999. The neighborhood is between South Memphis and Midtown and bounded by the Illinois Central Railroad on the west, Lamar Ave on the east, Southern Ave on the north and South Parkway on the south. Glenview was one of several suburban residential subdivisions in Memphis that were created during a building boom in the early 20th century. Architecture is representative of suburban development of that period, including bungalows, cottages, Foursquare, Colonial, Dutch Colonial Tudor and Spanish Revival styles. Glenview has many well-kept houses and is majority African American. It is also home to Eternal Peace Missionary Baptist Church, The Willet Apartments and Glenview Community Center. Home sizes range from about 1,000 square feet (93 m2) to 3,000 square feet (280 m2).

South Memphis, one of the oldest portions of Memphis, Tennessee, is a community stretching from Midtown and Downtown to the Mississippi state line. In its early days, it was primarily an agrarian community. South Memphis has many well-known neighborhoods including Whitehaven, Lauderdale Sub, Longview, Riverside, Lakeview Gardens, Prospect Park, Dukestown, Gaslight Square, Wilbert Heights, Mallory Heights, Dixie Heights, Barton Heights, Elliston Heights, Handy Holiday, Chickasaw Village, Pine Hill, Indian Hills, Bunker Hill, Westwood, Boxtown, West Junction, Walker Homes, Coro Lake, Nehemiah, and French Fort. Many of these neighborhoods are considered home to many famous hip hop/R&B singers and rappers. Many locations in South Memphis are also considered a hotbed for crime and violence due to the high amount of gang influence and the overall poverty level of the area. But South Memphis is known for its plentiful houses of worship including Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Westwood, St. Andrew AME Church, Washington Chapel CME Church, East Trigg Baptist Church, White's Chapel AME Church, Union Valley Baptist Church, Enon Springs Baptist Church, Warner Temple AME Zion Church, Unity Baptist Church, Ford's Chapel AME Zion Church, St. Augustine Catholic Church, and Monumental Baptist Church, just naming a few.

Calvary Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee, is a historic Catholic burial ground consecrated in 1867. Located at 1663 Elvis Presley Boulevard, it serves as the second Catholic cemetery in Shelby County, following the closure of St. Peter Cemetery.

Jesse H Turner Park is a public park in Memphis, Tennessee at the corner of South Parkway and Bellevue in South Memphis. Jesse H. Turner Sr. was a major civil rights champion and former president of Tri-State Bank in Memphis, Tennessee. Jesse H. Turner, Sr. had a long and dedicated service to the NAACP, which began when he was a student at LeMoyne College. He became a longtime treasurer of the national NAACP organization. He was also the first black CPA of Tennessee, and the first black chairman of the Shelby County Board of Commissioners. His son, Jesse Turner Jr., was the first African-American to attend a white high school in the Memphis area, graduating co-salutatorian from Christian Brothers High School in 1967.

Orange Mound, a neighborhood in southeast Memphis, Tennessee, was the first neighborhood in America to be built by and for African Americans.Built on the grounds of the former Deaderick plantation, the Orange Mound subdivision was developed for African Americans in the 1890s to provide affordable land and residences for the less wealthy.Drugs and crime infected the neighborhood in the 1980s and 1990s. In the first decade of the 21st century, revitalization efforts were started and show positive effects.

Cooper-Young is an eclectic neighborhood and historic district in the Midtown section of Memphis, Tennessee, named for the intersection of Cooper Street and Young Avenue. The entrance to the neighborhood is marked by the Cooper-Young Trestle, a 150-foot (46 m) long steel sculpture which depicts homes and businesses found in the neighborhood. Created by metal artist Jill Turman, the sculpture was dedicated in 2000, and has become a source of community pride and identity. In 2012, Cooper-Young was listed on the American Planning Association's 10 Great Neighborhoods in the U.S list.

Zimerman is a steel looping roller coaster currently operating at Gloria's Fantasyland in Dapitan City, Philippines. The ride, manufactured by Arrow Dynamics, first opened as Revolution at Libertyland in Memphis, Tennessee in 1979. After the 2005 season, the ride was relocated to DelGrosso's Amusement Park, where it sat unused until 2013 until it was moved to Gloria's Fantasyland where it was built for the 2014 season. The ride was officially announced on December 30, 2011 as Corkscrew Coaster along with Sling Shot, a drop tower originally located at Gillian's Wonderland Pier that was later renamed to Sky Drop.

The Eli Rayner House is a historic house in Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.. It was built in 1856 for Eli Rayner, a planter, and his wife May A. Jones. The Rayner were well-connected: Rayner's first cousin was Kenneth Rayner, and their daughter Irene married Thomas B. Turley.The house is a relatively sophisticated Late Greek Revival-style building, with "elegantly proportioned fluted columns capped with lotus leaf Corinthian capitals, supporting the pediment with simple scrolled triglyphs...." A cast-iron balcony, original or from before 1900, is at the second floor level within the two-story portico.The house has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 9, 1977.

The Memphis Grand Carousel, is a carousel located in Memphis, Tennessee. It was built in 1909 by the Dentzel Carousel Company with 48 wood-carved horse figures. It was purchased by the Memphis Park Commission in 1923. The carousel then operated at the site of the Mid-South Fair, and later the Libertyland amusement park. The Grand Carousel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, but was delisted in 2009. After Libertyland closed in the fall of 2005, it remained abandoned with the park until 2009, when it was dismantled and placed into storage. In 2014, the Children's Museum of Memphis was given a 25-year lease on the carousel by the City of Memphis, the carousel's owner. The carousel has been restored and since December 2017, currently operates in a new facility on the museum's campus.

Libertyland was an amusement park located in Memphis, Tennessee. Opened on July 4, 1976, it was located at 940 Early Maxwell Blvd. It was structured under the nonprofit 501(c)4 US tax code. It closed due to financial reasons in 2005.
