City Point National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery in the community of City Point within the city of Hopewell, Virginia. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 6.7 acres (2.7 ha), and as of the end of 2005, had 6,909 interments. It is managed by Hampton National Cemetery.

Downtown Hopewell Historic District is a national historic district located at Hopewell, Virginia. The district encompasses 38 contributing buildings in the central business district of Hopwell. The district primarily includes masonry buildings, largely built after a devastating fire in 1915. The scale is low with most buildings only two stories in height with decorative brick cornices and Art Deco features. Notable buildings include the Wells Building, Larkin Building (1916), Randolph Hotel (1927), former National Bank of Hopewell (1916), D. L. Elder Bank (1929), and First Federal Savings and Loan building (1951). Located in the district and separately listed are the Hopewell Municipal Building and Beacon Theatre.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, with several subsequent boundary increases.

The Hopewell High School Complex, also known as James E. Mallonee Middle School, is a historic former school campus located at 1201 City Point Road in Hopewell, Virginia, United States. Contributing properties in the complex include the original school building, athletic field, club house, concession stand, press box, Home Economics Cottage, gymnasium and Science and Library Building. There are two non-contributing structures on the property. Built in 1925, the Tudor Revival style school building served white high school students of Hopewell until 1967 when a new racially integrated facility was built and the former high school was converted into a middle school. The building was abandoned in 1988 after students were moved to another location. The athletic field, a project of the Works Progress Administration, is still used by Hopewell High School teams and the local school board offices are housed in the Home Economics Cottage and Science and Library Building. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Virginia Landmarks Register in 2009. The following year, renovation of the school building into loft-style apartments was completed. The building is now known as the Hopewell Lofts.

Hopewell Municipal Building is a historic municipal building located at Hopewell, Virginia. It was built in 1925, and is a three-story, nine-bay, rectangular, sandstone brick building in the Classical Revival style. Attached to the main building is a three-story annex built in 1957. The main entrance is a stone framed double door with a five pane transom window and a six foot deep portico with two stone unfluted columns on either side. The building houses city offices and the police department.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Grant's Headquarters at City Point is a museum operated by the National Park Service at Appomattox Manor in Hopewell, Virginia. It is a unit of the Petersburg National Battlefield Park. City Point was a port on the James River. During the last years of the American Civil War, from the port there, the City Point Railroad was used to support the Union forces during the Siege of Petersburg 1864–65. The successful capture of Petersburg and its network of railroads was the key to the fall of the Confederate capital city of Richmond, ending the war less than a week later. At the museum, the grounds include Grant's headquarters, and a plantation house with outbuildings. In the plantation house are furnished rooms, an introductory video, a diorama, and a bookshop.

The restored c. 1751 manor house on a bluff overlooking the confluence of the James River and Appomattox River, and the grounds are managed by the National Park Service. The museum there, Grant's Headquarters at City Point Museum, is a unit of the Petersburg National Battlefield Park.

Notable buildings include St. John's Episcopal Church (1840), Civil War Catholic Chapel (1865), the Cocke House (c. 1840, 1916), Miami Lodge (1912), Cook House (c. 1858), St. John's Rectory (c. 1848), and Christopher Proctor House (c. 1800). Located in the district and separately listed is Appomattox Manor.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Hopewell is an independent city surrounded by Prince George County and the Appomattox River in the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 23,033. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Hopewell with Prince George County for statistical purposes. Hopewell is in the Tri-Cities area of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
