Woodland Cemetery (Richmond, Virginia)

Originally a trolley car suburb in the years just before the dawn of the 20th century, the Fairmount neighborhood in Church Hill, Richmond, Virginia, is located just north of Union Hill. Much of the neighborhood was developed from the 1890s to the 1920s, and its buildings largely reflect Queen Anne, Italianate, and 1920s bungalow architecture. What is likely the oldest remaining residence, a frame house, probably dates from before 1870. A notable property in the Fairmount neighborhood is the Fairmount School. Annexed from Henrico County in 1906, Fairmount was first incorporated as an independent town on March 10, 1902 (though the area had actually been established some time in the years 1889-1893). The boundaries are roughly east of Mosby Street, north of Carrington, west of 24th/25th Streets, and towards Fairfield Avenue. Across Fairmount Avenue, it is the bulk of the area east of the Brauers neighborhood and west of 24th. In February 2008, the Fairmount Historic District was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The City of Richmond has made available a map of the historic district and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources has released the application to the registry, an illustrated version of which tells the history of the neighborhood with supporting maps and images.

Whitcomb Court is a Public Housing Project in the East End part of Richmond, Virginia that is north of Union Hill. The Housing Project is tucked away by the interchange of U.S. Route 360 Mechanicsville Turnpike and Interstate 64. Whitcomb and Sussex St. serve as the spine of the community.

Fairmount School, which became known as Helen Dickinson School from 1925 until 1958 (when it returned to its original name) and is now the Fairmount House, is a historic school building located in Richmond, Virginia. The two-story brick building was constructed circa 1895 on a high basement in the Gothic Revival style. It features two slate-covered, mansard roofed towers. A two-story addition designed by Albert F. Huntt (1868–1920) was added in 1908–1909.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The school is similar architecturally to Randolph School (Richmond, Virginia) which also survives. September 1958, upon its conversion to a Negro school with pupils from Bowler, Buchanan, George Mason, and Woodville. Under Plan III, Fairmount was paired with Francis. It became Fairmount School again in 1958, after being renamed Helen Dickinson in 1925 to honor a former principal, and became a school for African-Americans. It closed in 1979, was sold by the City of Richmond in 1981, and was restored by Churchill-Fairmount Limited Partnership for use by elderly and handicapped persons.

Armstrong High School, part of the Richmond Public Schools, is a high school located in Richmond, Virginia, United States, with grades 9–12. The school was founded in 1867 as the Richmond Normal and High School by the Freedmen's Bureau and was eventually incorporated into the Richmond school system in 1876. The school's namesake is former Union General Samuel Chapman Armstrong, a white commander of a U.S. Colored Troops (USCT) regiment during the American Civil War. General Armstrong later founded Hampton Institute, a historically black college now known as Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. Armstrong was a mentor of Booker T. Washington.

Mosby Court is a Housing Project also a neighborhood. The neighborhood is named Mosby while the Housing Project is named Mosby Court. Mosby Court is located in the East End quadrant of Richmond, Virginia Adjacent to the Richmond City Jail, Mosby Court is primarily served by Coalter Street, which accesses the community North 18th Street (U.S. Route 360). Directly south of the neighborhood is Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.

Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital is a 96-bed, short-term acute care, non-profit hospital in Richmond, Virginia. It is owned and operated by Bon Secours, part of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Shockoe Creek is a watercourse in Virginia, United States, tributary to the James River. The Shockoe Creek watershed drained "portions of Richmond's North Side, near West End, downtown and northeast Henrico County." Historic tributaries of Shockoe Creek included Bacon's Quarter Branch and Gum Tree Creek. Shockoe Creek marked the western border of Richmond when it was incorporated as a municipality in 1742. The Shockoe Bottom neighborhood was the slave-trading district of Richmond, Virginia prior to the American Civil War. There were two water-powered mills along the creek in the 19th century. The creek has been channelized for flood control and pollution management since the 1920s.

Henrico County , officially the County of Henrico, is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 334,389 making it the fifth-most populous county in Virginia. Henrico County is included in the Greater Richmond Region. There is no incorporated community within Henrico County; therefore, there is no incorporated county seat either. Laurel, an unincorporated CDP, serves this function. Named after the settlement of Henricus, Henrico was first incorporated as the City of Henrico. In 1634, Henrico was reorganized as Henrico Shire, one of the eight original Shires of Virginia. It is one of the United States' oldest counties. The City of Richmond was officially part of Henrico County until 1842, when it became a fully independent city.The present-day Henrico County curves around the City of Richmond, surrounding it to the west, the north, and the east. The county is bounded by the Chickahominy River to the north and the James River and Richmond to the south.Richmond International Airport is located in the eastern portion of Henrico County in Sandston. Top private employers in the county include Capital One, Bon Secours, and Elevance Health.

Hasker and Marcuse Factory, originally part of the American Can Company, is a historic factory building located in Richmond, Virginia. The original section was built in 1893 and expanded through 1915. It is a four- to five-story, brick industrial building. The factory housed manufacturers of printed, polychromatic tin boxes and tin tags (labels) for plugs of chewing tobacco.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is now the Church Hill House Apartments.

Union Hill is a historic district of Richmond, Virginia. According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, the neighborhood "generally is bordered on the south by East Marshall Street and Jefferson Avenue, on the west by Mosby Street, on the north by O and Carrington streets, and angled on the east by North 25th Street." The neighborhood is on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places, and is also one of sixteen designated "Old and Historic Districts" in Richmond.

Upper Shockoe Valley is a neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia that straddles alongside Interstate 95. The name is given based on the Shockoe River Valley created within the boundaries of the neighborhood.

Fourth Baptist Church is a historic African-American Baptist church located in Richmond, Virginia. It was built in 1884, and is a three-story, Greek Revival style stuccoed brick structure. It features a distyle portico in antis elevated on a high podium. It consists of two unfluted Doric order columns and paired pilasters supporting a Doric entablature. Attached to the church is a Sunday School building erected in 1964.The addition was designed by Ethel Bailey Furman (1893-1976), the first Black woman to practice architecture in the Commonwealth of Virginia.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. A former pastor was Richmond mayor Leonidas B. Young, II, who was convicted of defrauding the church at one point during his career.
