Zoar (Aylett, Virginia)

Zoar State Forest is a state forest located in King William County, Virginia, near the town of Aylett. It is used to grow timber and agricultural crops, maintain habitat for various species of wildlife, and to provide educational and recreational opportunities. All state forests are managed by the VDOF for multiple-use purposes, including watershed protection, recreation, timber production, fishing, and applied forest research. The state forests are self-supporting (no taxes are used to operate the system). In addition, one-fourth of all income is returned to King William County. Income is received from the sale of forest products.The property was originally part of a large estate belonging to William Aylett, and was purchased in 1782 by one Robert Pollard. He built a frame house on the land, calling it Mount Zoar. It was partially destroyed by an 1851 fire, and rebuilt using brick by Pollard's son. Another fire between 1884 and 1885 destroyed the structure, as well as its contents. The present house was built in 1890; today it is on the National Register of Historic Places as Zoar. The 378-acre (1.53 km2) forest was donated to the Virginia Department of Forestry in 1987. Today, the house and its outbuildings support field offices for area foresters helping landowners in both King William and King and Queen counties.

Aylett is an unincorporated community in King William County, Virginia, United States. It is located where Virginia State Route 360 crosses the Mattaponi River. William Aylett and his family had several prominent warehouses and mills in the area.Formerly, Todd's Bridge (no longer in existence), or simply Todd's, was north of Aylett. Todd's and Aylett were both mentioned in Tobacco Inspection Act of 1730 legislation as a location for a public tobacco inspection warehouse. Later, in 1781, Todd's Bridge provided crossing of the Mattaponi as a part of the Washington–Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Burlington, Holly Hill, Roseville Plantation, and Zoar are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Northbank is a historic plantation house located near Walkerton, King and Queen County, Virginia. The first section was built in 1722, with additions dated to 1827, 1863 and 1911. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, frame and clapboard home on a brick foundation. Also on the property are the contributing smokehouse, kitchen house, pole barn shed, and the family cemetery. The house remained in the same family from 1722 to 1990.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Bewdley is a historic plantation house located near St. Stephens Church, King and Queen County, Virginia. It was built in the third quarter of the 18th century, and is a large two-story, L-shaped brick dwelling. It has a hipped roof with a 20th-century modillion cornice. The front facade features an early 19th-century pedimented dwarf portico supported on four Tuscan order columns.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
