Morris Dam

Morris Reservoir is located in the San Gabriel Mountains, within the Angeles National Forest, in Los Angeles County, California. It is impounded by Morris Dam, which was completed in 1935. Morris Dam is a gravity dam rising 245 feet (75 m) above the San Gabriel River stream bed.

The San Gabriel Complex Fire was a wildfire that burned in 2016 in the Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County, California, United States. It was the combination of two separate wildfires: the Reservoir Fire and the Fish Fire, both of which ignited on June 20.

Rancho Azusa de Dalton, (originally the Rancho El Susa), was a 4,431-acre (17.93 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Los Angeles County, California, given in 1841 by Governor Juan Alvarado to Luis Arenas. Arenas sold his Rancho Azusa de Duarte holdings three years later to Henry Dalton (1803–1884), a wealthy merchant from Pueblo of Los Angeles. Dalton named his holding Rancho Azusa de Dalton. Henry Dalton was also called Don Enrique Dalton. Cities that have been established on the Rancho lands originally granted to Henry Dalton include Azusa, Arcadia, Monrovia, Irwindale and Baldwin Park.

St. Lucy's Priory High School is a private, Roman Catholic, all-girls high school in Glendora, California, founded in 1962. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and overseen by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Lucy's Priory.

Rubel Castle (also known as Rubelia) was established in Glendora, California, by Michael Clarke Rubel (April 16, 1940 – October 15, 2007) and is owned and operated by the Glendora Historical Society.In 1959, Rubel purchased a 1.7 acre citrus orchard on which the structure resides. He and his friends completed construction in 1986. Rubel Castle was constructed partly out of concrete, as well as nontraditional materials including scrap steel, rocks, bedsprings, coat hangers, bottles, and other repurposed materials that Rubel salvaged from the neighborhood as ranches and barns were giving way to tract houses. Chickens and other animals are frequently sighted.

San Gabriel Dam is a rock-fill dam on the San Gabriel River in Los Angeles County, California, within the Angeles National Forest. Completed in 1939, the dam impounds the main stem of the San Gabriel River about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) downstream from the confluence of the river's East and West Forks, which drain a large portion of the San Gabriel Mountains. It is located directly upstream from the Morris Dam. The dam provides flood control, groundwater recharge flows and hydroelectricity for the heavily populated San Gabriel Valley in the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

APU/Citrus College station is an at-grade light rail station on the A Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located between Palm Drive and Citrus Avenue, a block north of Foothill Boulevard, in Azusa, California. It is named after the nearby Azusa Pacific University (APU) and Citrus College.This station opened on March 5, 2016, as part of Phase 2A of the Gold Line Foothill Extension Project, and currently serves as the northern terminus of the A Line. Phase 2B of the Foothill Extension will open to Pomona in December 2024.Due to heavy rain in March 2016, the previously delayed underpass construction on North Citrus Avenue was flooded. The Citrus Avenue extension and underpass were finally opened in September 2016.

Citrus College is a public community college in Glendora, California. The Citrus Community College District, which supports the institution, includes the communities of Azusa, Claremont, Duarte, Glendora and Monrovia. Founded in 1915 by educator Floyd S. Hayden, Citrus College is the oldest community college in Los Angeles County, California, and the fifth oldest in the state of California. Until 1961, the school was operated by the Citrus Union High School District and served the local area as both a high school and a junior college. During the 2019-2020 academic year, Citrus College enrolled 19,626 students. It conferred 2,444 degrees and awarded 2,175 certificates. 531 students graduated with honors (GPAs of 3.3 to 4.0). Citrus College currently offers 65 associate degrees, 88 certificates and skill awards in career technical education programs, and 29 associate degrees for transfer (ADTs). Its operating budget for 2020-2021 is $78 million.

The Glendora Bougainvillea, in Glendora, California, is the largest bougainvillea in the United States. The bougainvillea was designated a California Historical Landmark (No. 912) on October 14, 1977, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 7, 1978, as Site #78000683. The R.H. Hamlins, early citrus growers, planted the bougainvillea in 1901. The bougainvillea vine is growing up 94-foot palm trees. The plant has grown 600 feet down Bennett Avenue and also 600 feet down Minnesota Avenue. The vine also has grown 1200 feet on both sides of orange trees on the land owned by Dr. and Mrs. L.J. Pittman. The original parent of the bougainvillea vine arrived in 1870 by a whaling ship. The exact location of the original Glendora bougainvillea plant is not known. The California Historical Landmark marker is at 402 East Bennett Avenue. The marker was placed there by the L.J. Pittman family and the State of California in 1977. The bougainvillea's placement on the National Register of Historic Places gives the plant federal protection provided by the Department of the Interior. It also makes the plant eligible for a grant-in-aid under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. The bougainvillea plant is a thorny ornamental vine, native to South America, and can be found from Brazil to Peru and down to Argentina. The plant is named after the first Frenchman to cross the Pacific Ocean, Louis Antoine de Bougainville.The bougainvillea's peak bloom is in the months of June and July. Two species of bougainvillea are found in Glendora: Bougainvillea glabra and Bougainvillea spectabilis.

The Colby Fire was a wildfire in the Angeles National Forest. It was ignited along the Colby Truck Trail in the San Gabriel Mountains in northern Los Angeles County, United States. The fire started on January 16, 2014, and eventually burned 1,992 acres. On January 25, the Colby Fire had burned 1,962 acres, and was 98% contained. The fire, which was fanned by strong Santa Ana winds, destroyed five homes, injured one person, and forced the evacuation of 3,600 people at its peak.Three men in their early 20s were arrested for recklessly starting a fire, and have allegedly admitted starting an illegal campfire that blew out of control. They will face federal charges of unlawfully causing timber to burn. Bail has been set at $500,000 for each of them "due to the seriousness of the crime, as well as the high cost of damaged property and resources to fight the fire." One of the men, a transient, has been placed in a residential drug treatment facility. Two of the homeless men were convicted of lighting and failing to control an illegal campfire; the third person is scheduled to go to trial later in 2014.January fires are unusual in Southern California, but there was little rainfall in the area leading up to the fire, which led to a "red flag" fire danger situation. Warm temperatures, low humidity, and an excess of dry brush in the foothills around Glendora (which had not burned significantly since the 1960s) encouraged the growth of the fire.
