Alpine (plantation)

Alpine is an unincorporated community in Talladega County, Alabama, United States, located southwest of Talladega and northwest of Childersburg. It is known to Alabama residents as the site of YMCA Camp Cosby. The community gained its name from Alpine, a plantation owned by the Welch family. Over time, a town grew up around the plantation when a railroad came through. Initially known as Welchs Depot, it eventually came to be known as Alpine, in honor of the plantation.

Kymulga Mill & Covered Bridge are two locally owned historic landmarks located at Kymulga Park in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. The park is on Grist Mill Road (CR 46) off State Route 76 about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) northeast of the city of Childersburg. Both structures, dating back to the American Civil War, were restored in 1974 and were listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 29, 1976. The Childersburg Heritage Committee purchased the tract in 1988, and with help from the Alabama Historical Commission and the Talladega County Commission, established Kymulga Park. More structural renovations were made as well. There is an admission charge to visit the park, with proceeds being used for upkeep of all structures and nature trails within this historic recreation area. Kymulga Park was acquired by the City of Childersburg in June 2011. It is currently managed by the Childersburg Historic Preservation Commission.

Orange Vale, also known as the Lawler-Whiting House, is a Greek Revival plantation house completed in 1854 near Talladega, Alabama. The house was the centerpiece of a 3,000-acre (1,200 ha) cotton plantation, a forced-labor farm worked by black people enslaved by the land's white owners. The house is principally associated with Levi Lawler, an Alabama state legislator, who principally used it during the summer. The house is a formal two-story frame structure with a hexastyle square-columned portico across the front, supporting a heavy paneled entablature. There is no pediment. The hipped roof is flanked by interior chimneys. Small flat-roofed one-story pavilions flank the house on either side and extend beyond the rear of the house. The rear has two-level porches across the width. The interior has a center-hall plan with the hall extending to the back porch. 108 acres (44 ha) remain of the original property, with seven other buildings.Orange Vale was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 22, 1986.

Majestic Caverns (formerly known as DeSoto Caverns) is a series of caves and a tourist attraction located in Childersburg, Talladega County, Alabama. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, it is touted as "Alabama's Big Cave". In addition to the caves, the park offers various other attractions, including a three-quarter acre maze known as the Lost Trail Maze, panning for gemstones, a climbing wall, and amusement park style rides. While on the caverns tour, visitors can view a sound, light, and water show that changes with the holidays and seasons. Before being commercialized as DeSoto Caverns, the cave was well known locally as Kymulga Cave. There is evidence that the cave was formerly used by Native Americans, and it was mined during the Civil War. In June of 2022, the park announced that "DeSoto Caverns" as it had been known for many years would be renamed "Majestic Caverns."

Laniers, also known as Laniersville, is an unincorporated community in Talladega County, Alabama, United States.

The Alabama Army Ammunition Plant (ALAAP), was a United States munitions plant built and operated during World War II. The facility is located four miles (6 km) north of Childersburg, Alabama in Talladega County, Alabama.

Thornhill, also known as the Hade–Lewis House, is a plantation in Talladega County, Alabama, built beginning in 1835 by planter John Hardie. Hardie was an immigrant from Scotland, arriving in the Alabama Territory in 1818 after first spending time in New York and Virginia. He acquired the 700 acres (280 ha) of land for Thornhill in 1834 or 1835. The topology of the land reminded Hardie of his father's Thorn Hill Farm in Kinross, Scotland, so he named the property Thornhill. Cotton was the primary crop grown at Thornhill with about 50 enslaved people being held at the plantation by Hardie.The property includes the Classical Revival house, a chapel, the servants' quarters, the plantation office, a barn, a horse racetrack and the family cemetery, along with the approach road. The main house is an I-house in plan, one room deep in front, two stories, with a rear ell. The facade is five bays wide and fronted by a central portico. The interior has a central hall plan, flanked by a parlor, a dining room and a library in the ell. A kitchen occupies the farther reaches of the ell.Thornhill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 20, 1998.

The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI Talladega) is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in Alabama. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility also includes an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp that also houses male offenders. FCI Talladega is located approximately 50 miles from Birmingham, Alabama and 100 miles from Atlanta, Georgia.

The Battle of Talladega was fought between the Tennessee Militia and the Red Stick Creek Indians during the Creek War, in the vicinity of the present-day county and city of Talladega, Alabama, in the United States.
