The Biotech and MCV District is the community that surrounds the MCV Campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Downtown Richmond, Virginia.

The VA Bio+Tech Park is a 34 acres (14 ha) commercial life sciences hub in downtown Richmond, Virginia adjacent to the VCU Medical Center at Virginia Commonwealth University. The park was incorporated in 1992 and opened in 1995. It houses nearly 70 public and private life sciences companies, research institutes affiliated with VCU, and prominent state and national medical laboratories. Residents include the national headquarters for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), the Virginia Department of Forensic Science, the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and True Health Diagnostics. The park's largest tenant is Richmond-based Altria Group, Inc., which opened the metal-clad, 450,000-square-foot, $350 million Center for Research & Technology on the site in 2007. The heavily secured complex employs 600 scientists, engineers and support staff. From 1995 to 2011, the park generated approximately $108 million in tax revenue for the Commonwealth, according to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership. The added economic impact attributable to the park since founding is $3.8 billion. The park's business incubation program has graduated more than 40 client companies including three publicly traded firms, and those client companies and graduates have attracted more than $400 million in equity, grant, and strategic capital. Companies and organizations in the Bio+Tech Park are housed in nine buildings that make up roughly 1.5 million square feet of space and employ more than 2,000 people. The VA Bio+Tech Park's Executive Director & President/CEO is Chandra Briggman. Unlike states such as North Carolina and Maryland that fund their research parks, the Virginia site does not receive direct money from the Commonwealth, City of Richmond, or VCU. The Park is funded mostly by parking and leasing fees.

Court End is a neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia, that sits to the north of the Capitol Square and East Broad Street. It developed in the Federal era, after Virginia's capital moved from Williamsburg.

The Centennial Dome, also known as the Virginia Centennial Center, was designed by Walter Dorwin Teague to serve as a focus for Virginia's efforts to publicize Virginia's Civil War history. It is one of the most modern structures ever built in Richmond. Built for the 1961 Civil War Centennial, it served as the Jonah L. Larrick Student Center on the Medical College of Virginia campus of Virginia Commonwealth University until 2007. The Centennial Center was part of a major national effort to commemorate the Civil War. Thematic issues surrounding the construction of the center including using the Civil War as a vehicle for rural land preservation, promoting tourism and healing the wounds of the Civil War across the U.S. It served as a visitor center for attractions in Richmond including the Richmond National Battlefield Park of the National Park Service and the Museum of the Confederacy. The hiring of Teague Associates for the centennial was a bold move for Richmond, which aimed to present itself as modern at the same time as it commemorated the Civil War. The construction began only a few years after the construction of the landmark modernist Reynolds Aluminum headquarters, listed on the National Register and recently renovated by Philip Morris. The Centennial effort was a time when Richmond attempted to be in the big league of design—the official hotel of the Civil War Centennial, the Hotel Richmond, hired the vanguard identity and branding firm Lippincott & Margulies to design their restaurant. The decision to hire Teague was encouraged by Virginia Museum of Fine Arts director Leslie Cheek, a proponent of modern design. Cheek, in his biography by Parke Rouse, felt that the structure was "useful, functional and quite handsome." However, the design caused controversy; one councilman called it a "grapefruit turned upside down over a doughnut." It was located directly north in axis with Richmond's New City Hall. The building was closed in December 2007 and was torn down on 2 May 2008. It was replaced by a new university dining and recreation facility. Although the Centennial Dome is now gone, most of the exhibitions it housed have been located since 1970 in the Hall of Valor Museum at the New Market Battlefield State Historical Park in New Market, Virginia. The Park is the only facility owned by the Commonwealth of Virginia that interprets the military story of the war in the state.

Benjamin Watkins Leigh House, also known as the Wickham-Leigh House, is a historic home located in Richmond, Virginia. It was built between 1812 and 1816, and is a three-story, four bay by three bay, Federal style rectangular stuccoed brick dwelling. It features an Italianate bracketed cornice and a small Italianate front porch. It was the home of Senator Benjamin W. Leigh (1781-1849) and sold to Lieutenant Governor John Munford Gregory (1804-1884) upon Leigh's death in 1849. The house was sold to the Sheltering Arms Hospital in 1932, after which a large three-story wing was added to the east side connecting it to the William H. Grant House. The house was later sold to the Medical College of Virginia and used for offices.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.

Decatur O. Davis House is a historic home located in Richmond, Virginia. It was designed by architect Albert Lawrence West and built in 1879. It is a three-story, three bay, Second Empire style brick dwelling with a mansard roof. It has an offset, two-story south wing. It features granite and iron ornamentation and a rare rinceau cast-iron fence.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The Valentine is a museum in Richmond, Virginia dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting Richmond's history. Founded by Mann S. Valentine II 1898, it was the first museum in Richmond.In the early 21st century, The Valentine offers rotating exhibitions, walking tours, programs, special events, research opportunities and more as a way to engage, educate and challenge a diverse audience. The Valentine also includes the Wickham House, a National Historical Landmark.

The William H. Grant House, also known as Sheltering Arms Hospital, is a historic house located in Richmond, Virginia. It was built in 1857, and is a large, three-story brick townhouse in the Italianate style. It features a small, richly ornamented arched front porch supported by coupled square columns. In 1892, the house was acquired by the Sheltering Arms Hospital, who occupied it until 1965. It is connected to the Benjamin Watkins Leigh House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.Currently, the building is owned by Virginia Commonwealth University and houses office space for the Department of Dermatology and Risk Management unit.

The Wickham House, also known as the Wickham-Valentine House, is a historic house museum on East Clay Street in Richmond, Virginia. Completed in 1812, it is considered one of the finest examples of architecture from the Federal period. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971.It is now owned and operated by The Valentine, a private history museum devoted to the city's history.

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry is the dental school of Virginia Commonwealth University. Located in the United States city of Richmond. The school opened in 1893. It is the only dental school in Virginia and is one of five schools within the VCU Medical Center.

The John Marshall House is a historic house museum and National Historic Landmark at 818 East Marshall Street in Richmond, Virginia. It was the home of Chief Justice of the United States and Founding Father John Marshall, who was appointed to the court in 1801 by President John Adams and served for the rest of his life, writing such influential decisions as Marbury v. Madison (1803) and McCulloch v. Maryland (1819). Built in 1790, the house was home to Marshall, his wife Mary Willis Ambler Marshall (known within the family as Polly), and their six children. Marshall lived at the house until his death in 1835.The house is a Federal-style brick building featuring a dining room, parlor, and large parlor/dining room on the first floor and three bedchambers on the second. It was originally surrounded by an outbuildings including a law office, kitchen, laundry, and stables and sat on a full city block in Richmond's fashionable Court End residential neighborhood. Marshall's neighbors included the attorney John Wickham, who defended Aaron Burr in Burr's infamous treason trial.

Putney Houses are a set of two historic homes located in Richmond, Virginia. The Samuel Putney House at 1010 E. Marshall Street is a three-story, three bay Italianate style townhouse with rich architectural decoration. It features a delicate cast iron, one-story porch across the first story. The neighboring Stephen Putney House at 1012 E. Marshall Street is a three-story, three-bay stuccoed brick dwelling crowned by a bracketed cornice. It features magnificent two-story verandah of ornamental iron on the east side. Both Putney Houses were built in 1859, and have extensive rear ells. The ornamental ironwork is a product of the local Phoenix Iron Works.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.
