Epping Upland

Epping was, from 1894 to 1955, a rural district in the administrative county of Essex, England.

Epping Green is a village in the civil parish of Epping Upland and Epping Forest district of Essex, England, situated on the B181 road between Epping and Harlow. The parish of Epping Upland, which stretches from the Wake Arms public house near Upshire at the south to the outskirts of Harlow at the north, takes in part of Thornwood Common at the east, and the hamlet of Rye Hill. Epping Green lies mainly within Epping Forest land although most farmland is owned by Copped Hall Estates and leased to the local farmers. Through the village are ancient market routes and cattle drover's lanes, which were routes from as far afield as Norfolk. The traditional village pond was originally a blacksmith's cooling pond. Following the closure of the combined post office and village store around 1996, the closure of the Cock & Magpie public house around 2018 and the decision by the long-standing owner to put the remaining pub, The Traveller's Friend, up for sale in 2021, the village has lost its remaining commercial amenities. The 13th-century parish church of All Saints' at Epping Upland, less than 1 mile (1.6 km) to the south-east, serves Epping Green, and was the original Epping church before St John's was built. Between the 1920s and 1940s Epping Green consisted chiefly of wooden cottages built along a country road.

Harlow Woods is a 47.1-hectare (116-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Harlow in Essex. It is composed of three woods, Hospital Wood Risden's Wood and Parndon Wood. They are owned and maintained by Harlow District Council, and they are part of the slightly larger Parndon Woods and Common Local Nature Reserve.The woods are mainly pedunculate oak and hornbeam, and other trees include ash, hazel and birch. There are also some elms which are regenerating from coppice following Dutch elm disease. There is grassland in ridings and clearings, and ponds and streams provide additional habitats for invertebrates. There are birds such as jays, nuthatches and great spotted woodpeckers.There is access from Parndon Wood Road.

Jacks Hatch (also spelt Jack's Hatch), is a hamlet in the Epping Upland civil parish of the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. Jacks Hatch is 1.75 miles (3 km) north-west from the parish village of Epping Upland, 2 miles (3 km) south-southwest from the town centre of Harlow and 17 miles (27 km) west from the city and county town of Chelmsford. It is on the B181 Epping road between Epping Green village at the south, and Broadley Common in Roydon at the north-west, and centred on the junction with Parsloe Road running north-east to the almost conjoined Kingsmoor area of southern Harlow. Junction 7 of the M11 motorway is 4.5 miles (7 km) to the east.The Hamlet may have been referenced as Cerlen hacce in the confirmatory charter of Edward the Confessor to the church of Waltham Holy Cross in 1062.While the Hamlet lies within the civil parish of Epping Upland, it lies within the ecclesiastical parishes of Nazeing and Great Parndon - the boundary between them lying along the Epping Green Road (B181). The hamlet and its immediate surrounding area includes three farms. There are two small retail and light industrial areas on Parslow Road which include a car sales and a furniture sales outlet, and a hair salon. Detached and semidetached houses line Parsloe Road, and the Epping Road chiefly at its west side. At the junction is a fuel station which includes an automotive repair centre.The 1933 Kelly's Directory of Essex listed a motor engineers company at Jacks Hatch.On Parsloe Road at Jacks Hatch is the Grade II listed Richmonds Farmhouse, a rendered timber-framed T-plan house with a 17th-century gable, dating at least from the early 16th century.In the 2010s Epping Upland Parish Council began working towards a Neighbourhood Plan for the protection of parish character which, if approved, would become part of planning policy under an Epping Forest District Council Local Plan. The area of Jacks Hatch was to be removed from the protection of this Local Plan, allowing further southward expansion of the Harlow conurbation. A possible greater expansion of Harlow attached development south to the edge of Epping Upland village, and in green belt, was being considered through the Epping Forest District Council Local Plan, but opposed by the Parish Council for its Neighbourhood Plan.Jacks Hatch lies in the UK parliamentary constituency of Epping Forest. The sitting MP since 1997 has been Eleanor Laing.

Epping St John's School, formerly known as St John's Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, is a school in Epping, Essex.Epping St. John's was established in September 2013. The school is mixed-sex or coeducational. The previous St Johns C of E secondary school building was located in Tower Road, Epping.

Epping is a market town and civil parish in the Epping Forest district of the county of Essex, England. The town is 17 miles (30 km) northeast from the centre of London, is surrounded by the northern end of Epping Forest, and on a ridge of land between the River Roding and River Lea valleys. Epping is the terminus for London Underground's Central line. The town has a number of historic Grade I and II* and Grade II listed buildings. The weekly market, which dates to 1253, is held each Monday. In 2001 the parish had a population of 11,047 which increased to 11,461 at the 2011 Census.Epping became twinned with the German town of Eppingen in north-west Baden-Württemberg in 1981.

Copped Hall, also known as Copt Hall or Copthall, is a mid-18th-century English country house close to Waltham Abbey, Essex, which has been undergoing restoration since 1999. Copped Hall is visible from the M25 motorway between junctions 26 and 27. There was a separate Copped Hall (or Coppeed Hall) in Totteridge, which was demolished in 1928.

Latton Priory was a small priory in Essex, England. Its site is about 1 km south of the outskirts of the modern town of Harlow. The priory was founded before 1292 by an ancestor of Thomas Shaa as a community of Augustinian Canons Regular, and was constructed on a moated site. The church was rebuilt in the 14th century and together with the dormitory, refectory and cellarer's range formed a square surrounding the cloisters.The site was abandoned in 1534, just prior to the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII. The property was granted to Sir Henry Parker in 1536, but by 1556 had been united with the Latton Hall estate. In 1562, it became part of the Mark Hall estate, who sold it to a tenant after the Second World War.During much of that time the priory site has functioned as a farm. The farmhouse is believed to stand on the site of the refectory and the remains of the church, a Grade II* listed building, have been incorporated into farm buildings.In 2013, proposals were made to build 2500 houses on the site.
