Wimereux

Wimille-Wimereux is a railway station serving the communes of Wimille and Wimereux, Pas-de-Calais department, northern France. It is on the Boulogne–Calais railway between Calais and Boulogne and served by regional TER trains.

The canton of Boulogne-sur-Mer-Nord-Ouest is a former canton situated in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of northern France. It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. It consisted of 2 communes, which joined the canton of Boulogne-sur-Mer-1 in 2015. It had a total of 19,157 inhabitants (2012, without double counting).

Wimille (French pronunciation: [vimil]; Picard: Wimil) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France about 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Boulogne, on the banks of the river Wimereux. The river Slack forms the northern boundary of the commune.

Major Arthur Willan Keen (20 March 1895 – 2 September 1918) was a British World War I flying ace credited with fourteen aerial victories. Keen won his first decoration before ever seeing combat when he saved a fellow pilot from drowning on 17 June 1916. Once in France, his combat record saw him promoted to flight, then squadron commands. The latter posting made him a major at age 23.

The Slack (French pronunciation: [slak], in Picard locally [s̟laːk]) is a 22-kilometre-long (14 mi) coastal river in the Pas-de-Calais department, in northern France.It rises at Hermelinghen on Mount Binôt, flows through Rinxent, Marquise, Beuvrequen, Slack (village near Ambleteuse) and flows into the English Channel in Ambleteuse next to Fort Mahon.

Fort Mahon (French: Fort d'Ambleteuse or Fort Vauban) is a sea fort by the commune of Ambleteuse in the Pas-de-Calais, northern France. The fort was built at the end of the 17th century by the military architect Vauban on the orders of Louis XIV to defend the port in the estuary of the Slack. It was designated a Monument historique in the 1960s.

The former French Catholic diocese of Boulogne existed from 1567 to the French Revolution. It was created after the diocese of Thérouanne was suppressed because of war damage to the see; effectively this was a renaming. It belonged to the Archdiocese of Reims. The Concordat of 1801 suppressed the diocese of Boulogne, transferring its territory to the diocese of Arras. The seat was the Boulogne Cathedral, demolished in 1793.
