Fairfax County, officially the County of Fairfax, is a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is part of Northern Virginia and borders both the city of Alexandria and Arlington County and forms part of the suburban ring of Washington, D.C., the nation's capital. The county is predominantly suburban in character with some urban and rural pockets. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,150,309, making it the most populous jurisdiction in Virginia, with around 13% of the state's population, the most populous jurisdiction in the Washington metropolitan area, with around 20% of the MSA population, and the most populous location in the Washington–Baltimore combined statistical area, with around 13% of the CSA population. The county seat is Fairfax; however, because it is an independent city under Virginia law, the city of Fairfax is not part of the county.Fairfax was the first U.S. county to reach a six-figure median household income and has the fifth-highest median household income among all U.S. counties as of 2020. As part of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, is usually included atop or near the top of lists of the wealthiest areas in the United States.The county is home to the headquarters of four intelligence agencies, the Central Intelligence Agency, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, National Reconnaissance Office, National Counterterrorism Center; the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is also based in the county. In academia, the county is home to the flagship campus of George Mason University, CIA University-Sherman Kent School for Intelligence Analysis, and several Northern Virginia Community College campuses. Seven Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in the country as of 2012.

Wilbert Tucker Woodson High School, commonly known as W.T. Woodson High School or simply Woodson, (in the process of renaming to Carter G. Woodson High School) is a high school located in Fairfax County, Virginia, just outside the east end of the city of Fairfax limits, opposite the shopping center on Main Street. The school opened in 1962 and was once the largest school in the state. It is named for W. T. Woodson, who served as Fairfax County School Superintendent from 1929 to 1961. As of 2022-2023, the student population was 2,220. Woodson has the largest campus in Fairfax County in size of area, and also houses Woodson Adult High School, a separate education facility run by FCPS that allows adults to earn their GEDs and HS diplomas. Woodson has appeared multiple times on Newsweek magazine's lists of top or best high schools, including #23 (2003), #34 (2005), #90 (2006), and #74 (2008). Woodson has also appeared on the top high schools lists from U.S. News & World Report: #90 (2008), #116 (2013), #200 (2016), #365 (2019), and #280 (2020) The principal as of September 2023 is Kevin Greata.

Fairfax Memorial Park is a cemetery in Fairfax, Virginia. The cemetery was founded in 1957 by Cornelius H. Doherty, Sr.The cemetery was opened in 1969 to provide space for Catholics in the area who required a Catholic burial, but it is now a secular cemetery. The cemetery, along with its associated funeral home, is now owned by Houston-based conglomerate, Carriage Services.

Rutherford is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It lies South of Virginia State Highway 236 (a.k.a. Little River Turnpike), North of Virginia State Route 620 (Fairfax and Loudoun Counties) (a.k.a. Braddock Road), East of Olley Lane, and West of Guinea Road. This is west of Annandale, east of the independent city of Fairfax. Rutherford Park, Rutherford Area Swim Club and Fairfax County Public Schools Little Run Elementary School are located in the community. Other parks are located nearby, including Long Branch Stream Valley Park to the south, Daniels Run Park to the west and Woodburn Road Park and Accotink Stream Valley Park to the northeast. The Rutherford community consists of approximately 700 homes.

Doveville is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. It lies along Virginia State Highway 236, west of Annandale, east of the independent city of Fairfax and southwest of Merrifield. Immediately to the south is Rutherford and immediately to the north is Mantua. Numerous parks are located nearby, including Long Branch Stream Valley Park to the south, Daniels Run Park to the west and Woodburn Road Park and Accotink Stream Valley Park to the northeast.

Kings Park West is a census-designated place in the eastern United States, in Fairfax County, Virginia, southwest of Washington, D.C. The population as of the 2010 census was 13,390.

The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) is a nonprofit service organization of schools with military programs approved by the Department of Defense and which maintain good standing in their regional accrediting organizations. The purpose, as put forth in the AMCSUS Constitution, is "to promote the common interest of all members and to advance their welfare; promote and maintain high scholastic, military and ethical standards in member schools; represent the mutual interests of the member schools before the Department of Defense as well as the general public; foster and extend patriotism and respect for duly constituted authority; and cultivate citizens who love peace and who strive to maintain it."Member military schools have armed services personnel detailed to the campus with the approval of the Department of Defense. The schools organize their student bodies as a cadet corps, with students habitually in uniform and continually under military discipline while at the college or school. The AMCSUS Headquarters are in Fairfax, Virginia.

Mantua is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. Mantua is a bedroom community serving as a suburb to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Most of the homes in Mantua were built between the 1950s and the 1980s. The population was 7,503 at the 2020 census.

GW Community School, or GWCS, is a teacher-owned and operated coeducational college preparatory school located in Springfield, Virginia, United States. It was founded in 1999 by teachers Richard Goldie and Alexa Warden to serve the needs of bright, non-traditional learners and their families. The founders had previously been active in the founding of Commonwealth Academy before GW Community School was founded. It currently has an enrollment of 52 students, grades 9-12. Despite being located just outside Washington, D.C., the "GW" does not stand for "George Washington" but for "Goldie" and "Warden", the last names of the school's founders and current directors.

The New School of Northern Virginia (also referred to simply as "The New School") is an independent, private school serving grades 6-12 located in Fairfax, Virginia. Their goal is for their students to independently own their education. The New School is small by design, with 120 students and 26 teachers and staff, all of whom are on a first-name basis.

Lake Braddock Secondary School (LBSS) in Burke, Virginia, United States, administered by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), is one of three 7-12 secondary schools in Fairfax County; the other two are Hayfield SS and Robinson SS. Lake Braddock opened in 1973. Its mascot is a bruin, and the school colors are purple and gold.

Fairfax Public School, also known as the Old Fairfax Elementary School Annex, is a historic school building located at Fairfax, Virginia. It consists of two sections built in 1873 and 1912, and is a two-story, brick building. The original section lies at the rear of the building, which was later fronted by the two-story, rectangular, hipped roof section. The front facade features a one-story, Classical Revival style portico supported by three fluted Doric order columns at each corner. The building now houses the Fairfax Museum and Visitors Center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
