Glooscap 35

Glooscap First Nation is a Canadian Mi'kmaq aboriginal community located in both Kings County and Hants County, Nova Scotia. Also known as Kluskap, its reserve is located approximately 6.4 kilometres (4.0 mi) from the Town of Hantsport. Created in 1907 as Horton 35, the reserve encompasses some 171.1 hectares (423 acres) of rolling, mainly forested land. Forest management is practiced by the band. There is a variety store, gas bar, Greco Pizza, and gaming centre. There is also a health centre, youth centre and chapel. The Glooscap Landing Business Park is also owned by Glooscap First Nation which houses a second gas bar and Tim Hortons. The 2023 population was 424 people of whom approximately 100 lived on the reserve, making Glooscap the third-smallest First Nation community in Nova Scotia after Bear River First Nation and Annapolis Valley First Nation. Avonport is a community in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada, located in Kings County between the mouths of the Avon River and the Gaspereau River. Early settlers included the Fillis and Reid families. It was part of the Horton Township settlement and was known as Horton Point until its name was changed to Avonport in 1864.The Windsor and Annapolis Railway arrived in 1869 stimulating a number export industries including apple warehouses and a brickyard, later to become Shaw Bricks. In 1911, Minnie Brooks became one of the first female station masters in Canada at the Avonport Station, serving until the 1930s when she was transferred to the important tourist station at Grand Pre.The area was used as a burial site for the Mi'kmaq, a First Nations people, in the beginning of the 17th century.Popular tourist destinations are Haliburton's Hill, Wog's Road, and Wiener's Road. The area holds a considerable amount of agricultural land, including that of Haliburton Farm, Fuller Farm and various vineyards. Fuller Farm is particularly known for growing some of the best Honeycrisp apples in the continent. Great views of the Minas Basin and Blomidon can be seen from various vantage points in Avonport. Avonport Beach is a popular tourist attraction in the summer.

Hantsport is an unincorporated area in the West Hants Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is at the western boundary between West Hants Regional Municipality and Kings County, along the west bank of the Avon River's tidal estuary. The community is best known for its former industries, including shipbuilding, a pulp mill, as well a marine terminal that once loaded gypsum, mined near Windsor. The community is the resting place of Victoria Cross recipient William Hall.

Blue Beach is a 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) stretch of cliff-bordered coastline at Avonport, Nova Scotia near the mouth of the along the Avon River in the southern bight of Minas Basin, Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is best known as a globally significant fossil location for Lagerstätte of the Tournaisian Stage (Lower Carboniferous) period.

Churchill House is a historic house and community centre located in Hantsport, Nova Scotia. The house was built in 1860 by noted Hantsport shipbuilder Ezra Churchill as a gift for his son John Wiley Churchill. The well-preserved example of an Italianate house today serves as a museum and community centre owned by the non profit corporation Hantsport Memorial Community Centre.

Hantsport station in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, Canada, was built in 1944 as a replacement for an earlier station destroyed by fire in 1943. The brick Tudor revival station was designed by Canadian Pacific Railway architects. The station played an important role in controlling the large shipments of gypsum through the port of Hantsport by the Dominion Atlantic Railway and later the Windsor and Hantsport Railway until 2011 when the gypsum mines around Windsor closed. The station is protected by both federal and provincial heritage laws. It was designated a historic railway station by the federal government in 1992 and as a provincial heritage building in 1995.

Avonport Station is a community in Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is located near Avonport. The Horton Bluff formation is located 2.5 kilometres southeast from the community.

The Halfway River is a tributary of the Avon River in Nova Scotia, Canada.There are two impoundments located within the Halfway River system, used by Minas Basin Pulp and Power Limited for water storage.

Mount Denson is a small community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in The Municipality of the District of West Hants in Hants County. The community is named after Mount Denson; the mid-eighteenth-century estate of Henry Denny Denson. The area first became known to Europeans in the sixteenth century as the river now known as the Avon appears on maps from this period. By 1686 Jean-Baptiste-Louis Franquelin's map of Acadia/Nova Scotia defines the area, showing the local tributaries flowing into the Avon River. One of these tributaries, the Cacaquit or modern day Halfway River, which now forms the northern boundary of the community, is indicated on the map. By 1680 Acadian farmers had migrated out of the Port Royal area and began settling the eastern end of the Annapolis Valley including the lands about Mount Denson, then known as Pisiquit. Census records indicate Etienne Rivet was one of the first settlers to establish a farm. He and his progeny farmed the nearby marshlands south of Mitchener's Point as well as those in the Cacaquit River valley. His son, Etienne, operated a mill on the Cacaquit near where the river meets the uplands, just beyond the southern boundary of today's town of Hantsport. By the 1690s Mount Denson was incorporated into the Acadian parish of Paroisse de Sainte Famille (established in 1698). When the Expulsion of the Acadians began in 1755 the area's male residents were detained at Fort Edward and later in the fall deported along with their families from the province. After the deportation of the Acadians, Nova Scotia's fine farmlands in the Bay of Fundy region remained empty and in an effort to repopulate the country the British government offered the recently vacated lands in grant to Protestants who wished to move to the colony. In 1760, Henry Denson acquired for himself 4000 acres in the new township of Falmouth and acting for the government began distributing the remaining tracts of land to New England Planters. Many families living in Mount Denson today descend from these settlers.
