The Embassy of Brazil in Washington, D.C. is the diplomatic mission of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the United States of America. The Chancery (offices) of the Embassy is located at 3006 Massachusetts Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C., in the famous Embassy Row neighborhood. In 1824, the United States was the second country to recognize Brazil's independence from Portugal, after Argentina recognized Brazil's independence in the previous year. The diplomatic relations between the United States and the Empire of Brazil was established on May 26, 1824, when the Brazilian Chargé d'Affaires José Silvestre Rebello presented his diplomatic credentials at the newly restored White House to fifth President James Monroe (1758-1831, served 1817-1825). Brazil's first legation was thus established in Washington, D.C., a quarter-century after the founding of the American capital city on the Potomac River. The Brazilian legation was replaced by an embassy in 1905. This campaign for liberation led with similar independence for Brazil with its crown prince and heir to the Portuguese throne who had resided for some time in South America, declaring independence from the mother country of the former unified trans-oceanic United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarves in 1822. The heir became Emperor Dom Pedro I of the new Empire of Brazil, which lasted until 1889, then becoming a federation republic. In 1905, the U.S. legation in the then Brazilian coastal capital city of Rio de Janeiro representing the United States and its Department of State under 26th President Theodore Roosevelt was raised to a full embassy as was the trend with other international diplomatic missions. The embassy had several homes in the federal District of Columbia until, in 1934, it purchased McCormick House, a large manor on Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. just down the street from the new British Embassy. The Brazilians were the second nation to have an embassy on what is today called the Embassy Row neighborhood. The manor today remains the ambassadorial residence. In 1971, a new chancery in America was constructed next door to McCormick House. The modernist mirrored glass wall structure was designed by famous Brazilian architect Olavo Redig de Campos (1906-1984). An extensive renovation of the Chancery of the Embassy ended forty years later in 2011.

The South African Embassy in Washington, D.C. is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of South Africa to the United States. It is located at 3051 Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C. in the Embassy Row neighborhood.

An outdoor sculpture of Nelson Mandela by Jean Doyle is installed outside the Embassy of South Africa, Washington, D.C., in the United States. The 9-foot (2.7 m) statue was unveiled on September 21, 2013.

McCormick House is the current residence of the Brazilian ambassador to the United States. It is located at 3000 Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C. in the Embassy Row neighborhood.

The British Embassy, Washington D.C. (alternatively in the US, Embassy of the United Kingdom, Washington, D.C.) is the British sovereign's diplomatic mission to the United States of America, representing the interests of the United Kingdom and British Government. It is located at 3100 Massachusetts Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. The embassy compound includes the chancery offices, as well as the British Ambassador's residence.

Woodland is a small residential and industrial neighborhood in Southeast Washington, D.C. Woodland lies in Washington's Ward 8, among the poorest and least developed of the city's wards. Like the neighborhoods around it, Woodland is almost exclusively African American. Woodland is bounded by Ainger Place SE to the north; Alabama Avenue SE and Knox Place SE to the east; Hartford Street SE to the south; and Langston Place SE, Raynolds Place SE, and Erie Street SE to the southwest. Fort Stanton Park forms the northwest and northern border of the neighborhood.

Woodland Normanstone is a small, residential neighborhood in Northwest Washington, D.C., adjoining the larger neighborhoods of Woodley Park, Massachusetts Avenue Heights, and Observatory Circle. The Woodland Normanstone neighborhood is bounded on by Garfield Street to the north, Cleveland Avenue and Calvert Street to the northeast, 28th Street to the east, Rock Creek Park to the southeast, Massachusetts Avenue to the southwest, and 34th Street to the west. It is served by the Woodley Park Metro station on the Washington Metro Red Line. Woodland Normanstone Neighborhood Association, established in 1989, represents the neighborhood. There are no commercial businesses; it is a neighborhood of detached single-family homes. Of the 160 houses in the neighborhood, 24 are residences for embassies.The neighborhood is not well known elsewhere in the city. It is reportedly home to a number of government officials.

A portrait sculpture of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill by William M. McVey is installed outside the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., United States. It is constructed of cast bronze, in small percentage larger-than-life.

The Kahlil Gibran Memorial Garden is a public garden located at 3100 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C., "within a wooded ravine known as Woodland-Normanstone Park". At its center are a bronze sculpture of the Lebanese-American writer, poet and visual artist Kahlil Gibran by Gordon Kray and a star-shaped fountain surrounded by limestone benches engraved with quotes of Gibran. The memorial garden was dedicated on May 24, 1991, by President George H. W. Bush. The fundraising was organized by the Kahlil Gibran Centennial Foundation, formed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the poet's birth in Bsharri.

The Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C. is the diplomatic mission of the Italian Republic to the United States, and the seat of the Italian Ambassador to the United States. The original Italian diplomatic mission to the United States following Italian unification was founded by Baron Saverio Fava. The current chancery is located just off Embassy Row at 3000 Whitehaven Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C. In 1972, the Italian government purchased property from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that was part of the campus of the neighboring Center for Hellenic Studies. The new building was designed by Piero Sartogo Architetti and was constructed in 1996.

The Charles C. Glover Memorial Bridge or Massachusetts Avenue Bridge in Northwest Washington, D.C. conveys Massachusetts Avenue over Rock Creek and Rock Creek Park. The concrete arch bridge was constructed in 1939–41 and has a length of 386.2 feet (117.7 m).

The Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) is a research institute for classics located in Washington, D.C. at 3100 NW Whitehaven Street. It is affiliated with Harvard University. Nestled in Rock Creek Park behind Embassy Row, the Center for Hellenic Studies offers a variety of both residential and remote fellowships each year to scholars and researchers working on projects in a variety of fields, including "archaeology, art history, epigraphy, history, literary criticism, philology, philosophy, pedagogical applications, reception, and interdisciplinary studies". The center provides housing for "residential" fellows and their families, and accommodates remote fellows and visiting scholars during shorter stays. Fellows are selected by a panel of Senior Fellows, a group of five internationally selected senior classicists. Fellows are typically pre-tenured PhDs from around the world, most often from Europe or North America. The "Center", as it is commonly called, has been a stopping point in the careers of many budding classicists who have gone on to be major contributors in the field.
