St. Mark's African Methodist Episcopal Church is a historic African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. St. Mark's has played a central role in Duluth's African-American community for more than 125 years. While other black organizations have dissolved or moved to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area, St. Mark's has been a local mainstay.The lower level of the building was constructed in 1900 and the Gothic Revival upper level was completed in 1913. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 for its local significance in the themes of black ethnic heritage and social history. It was nominated for serving as a religious and social center for Duluth's African-American community, and for its status as the city's only historic building constructed by and for African Americans.

Central Hillside is a neighborhood in Duluth, Minnesota, United States; located directly uphill from the city's downtown. The neighborhood offers views of the city and lake. Duluth's Mesaba Avenue (Highway 194) travels through the Central Hillside neighborhood. Many residents consider the area west of Mesaba Avenue to be the Observation Hill neighborhood, which is not included on official city maps. Mesaba Avenue, Lake Avenue, and Fourth Street are three of the main routes in the community. Central Hillside has notable architectural gems, including the Sacred Heart Center on Fourth Street. Buckingham Creek flows through the neighborhood near 12th Avenue West.

Fire Station No. 1 is a former fire station in the Central Hillside neighborhood of Duluth, Minnesota, United States. The two-building complex was constructed in 1889. It was one of the first fire stations in Duluth, built as the city transitioned from a volunteer fire department to a professional municipal agency. The station consists of a Romanesque Revival engine house and a plainer stable/shop building which wraps around it in an L.Fire Station No. 1 was redesignated Station No. 3 in 1897. In 1910 the Duluth Fire Department constructed a new headquarters nine blocks away. As the department acquired its tenth gas-powered fire engine near the end of that same decade, response times had decreased to the point that there was no need for another station so close to headquarters. The original Fire Station No. 1 was closed on March 1, 1918. The complex was transferred to the city's public works department as a maintenance and storage facility. No longer needed, the station's original bell tower was removed at this time. Sometime between 1925 and 1940 a second-floor passageway was added between the engine house and the shop building. In 1953 the complex was sold to Duluth Public Schools, which used it as a maintenance and storage facility for the rest of the 20th century. In 2012 the two buildings were redeveloped into an affordable housing complex.The engine house was initially listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Engine House No. 1 in 1975 for its local significance in the themes of architecture and social history. It was nominated as an example of Duluth's late-19th-century fire stations and a component of the city's formative municipal services. The nomination was updated in 2012 to recognize the stable/shop building as part of the listing.

Sacred Heart Cathedral, Sacred Heart School and Christian Brothers Home comprise a former Roman Catholic diocesan complex in the Central Hillside neighborhood of Duluth, Minnesota, United States. Sacred Heart Cathedral was built from 1894 to 1896 and served as the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Duluth until 1957, after which it became a parish church. Sacred Heart School was built in 1904 and the Christian Brothers Home—a monastic residence for the school faculty—was built in 1907.In 1985 the diocese merged the parish into another and sold off the Sacred Heart buildings. The cathedral is now the Sacred Heart Music Center, a performance and event venue. The school has been repurposed as the Damiano Center, an ecumenical provider of social services. The monastery is now Alicia's Place, which offers Section 8 housing for homeless women.The cathedral and school were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. In 2005 the listing was expanded to include the Christian Brothers Home. The complex was listed for its state-level significance in the themes of architecture and religion. It was nominated for its exemplary Late Gothic Revival cathedral designed by local architect Gearhard A. Tenbusch and for representing the historical seat of authority of the Diocese of Duluth and its educational efforts.

WSSU (88.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Superior, Wisconsin, and serving the Duluth/Superior area. The station is part of Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR), and airs WPR's "NPR News and Classical Network", consisting of classical music and news and talk programming. WSSU also broadcasts local news and programming from studios in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The WSSU call letters had originally been on sister Ideas Network station KUWS from its sign-on in 1966 until 1988. The Historic Old Central High School of Duluth, Minnesota, United States, is a local landmark dating to 1892. One of Minnesota's leading examples of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture, it occupies an entire city block and sports a 210-foot (64 m) clock tower. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Duluth Central High School in 1972 for its state-level significance in the theme of architecture.

KKCB (105.1 FM, "B105") is a radio station in Duluth, Minnesota, owned by Townsquare Media, airing a country music format. The studios and offices are with its three other sister stations at 14 E. Central Entrance, on the west side of Duluth. The station was WAVC during the 1980s, and previously a beautiful music outlet as WGGR.

KDNI, known on-air as Faith 90.5 FM, or by the network name Faith Radio, is a radio station in Duluth, Minnesota, owned and operated by University of Northwestern - St Paul and is a non-profit, listener-supported radio station relying on donations from the local community throughout the year. It broadcasts on 90.5 FM, covering Duluth-Superior and surrounding areas in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Programming is nearly 100 percent satellite delivered and produced by Northwestern Media. The format is mainly Christian talk and teaching, with programs such as Turning Point with David Jeremiah; Focus on the Family; Family Life Today with Dennis Rainey; Insight for Living with Chuck Swindoll; Living on the Edge with Chip Ingram; In Touch with Charles Stanley; Walk in the Word with James McDonald; Just Thinking with Ravi Zacharias; and others.

KUWS is a public radio station in Superior, Wisconsin, licensed to the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System and operated by the University of Wisconsin–Superior since January 21, 1966. KUWS is an affiliate of Wisconsin Public Radio's Ideas Network. It also airs university and student-produced programming weeknights with 91 Jazz St. from 7:00 to 10:00 and College Rock from 10:00 to 1:00 am.* KUWS broadcasts on 91.3 FM with 83,000 watts. KUWS was previously heard on translator station W275AF in the Ashland-Washburn-Bayfield area at 102.5 FM before September 12, 2011, when full-power WUWS (90.9) was launched from Ashland, replacing W275AF. WUWS continues to relay KUWS's schedule and is programmed from WPR's Superior studios. The original station call letters were WSSU, representing Wisconsin Superior State University. The call letters KUWS were assigned on August 1, 1988, as part of the station's affiliation with Wisconsin Public Radio. KUWS was permitted a "K" prefix, despite its location east of the Mississippi, due to Duluth-Superior's status as a "mixed" market, with several K-prefix stations already licensed to Superior. The KUWS studios are in the Holden Fine Arts Center at 1805 Catlin Avenue in Superior. The studios also provide local programming for Wisconsin Public Radio's NPR News and Classical Music network station for northwest Wisconsin, WHSA in Brule, as well as WHWA in Washburn, WSSU in Superior, and WUWS in Ashland. The KUWS transmitting facility is co-located with KBJR-TV in the Duluth tower farm.

WSCN (100.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Cloquet, Minnesota, serving the Duluth-Superior area. The station is owned by Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), and airs MPR's "News and Information" network, originating from the Twin Cities. The station has inserts at least once an hour for local underwriting and weather. MPR also maintains an office and studio in downtown Duluth. WSCN broadcasts in HD.

Duluth Central High School, also known as Central High School, was a secondary school located in Duluth, Minnesota, which educated students in grades ten through twelve until seventh and eighth were added after the closing of Washington Junior High School in 1992. It first opened in 1893 in the original building at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Second Street. The building was officially named Historic Old Central High School on October 19, 2004.In 1971, the new Central High School building was built on top of the hill near the intersection of Central Entrance and Pecan Avenue. This Duluth Central High School closed at the end of the 2010–2011 school year.

KQDS-FM (94.9 FM, "95 KQDS") is a classic rock music formatted radio station located in Duluth, Minnesota. Established in 1976 as KAOH-FM, the station is owned by Midwest Communications, and follows a format similar to that of the well-known KQRS-FM in the Twin Cities. The studios are located in downtown Duluth, along with KDAL, KDAL-FM, KDKE, KTCO, WDSM, and WDUL. KQDS-FM is simulcast on WMFG-FM (106.3) in Hibbing. Prior to Midwest selling the stations, KQDS-FM was also simulcast on WXXZ (95.3 FM, now WFNX) in Grand Marais and KAOD (106.7 FM, now KZJZ) in Babbitt. KQ 95's main competitor is Townsquare Media's WWPE (92.1 FM). KQDS-FM is probably best known for "The KQ Morning Show" which for the last decade has been rated first among adults 25-54 and Men 25–54. The show's longtime host, Bill Jones left the station, the broadcast industry and the city of Duluth December 15, 2009. Jones' Co-host, Jason Manning has returned to KQ with a "revamped" morning show with new co-host Frank Befera. In 2011, Befera was let go and the Morning Show switched to its current line-up of Jason Manning and longtime afternoon DJ Scott Savage.
