Digoin

The canton of Digoin is an administrative division of the Saône-et-Loire department, eastern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Digoin. It consists of the following communes:

The Bourbince (French pronunciation: [buʁbɛ̃s]) is an 82.4 km (51.2 mi) long river in the Saône-et-Loire département, in central eastern France. Its source is at Montcenis. It flows generally southwest. It is a left tributary of the river Arroux into which it flows at Digoin.

The Arroux flows generally south through the following departments and towns: Côte-d'Or: Arnay-le-Duc Saône-et-Loire: Autun, Toulon-sur-Arroux, Gueugnon The Arroux flows into the river Loire near Digoin, the main tributaries are the Ternin (48 km) and the Bourbince (82 km).

The Arconce (French pronunciation: [aʁkɔ̃s]) is a 98.8 km (61.4 mi) long river in the Saône-et-Loire department in central France. Its source is in Mary, 2 km (1.2 mi) southwest of the village. It is a right tributary of the Loire, into which it flows at Varenne-Saint-Germain, 2.5 km (1.6 mi) northwest of the village. It flows generally southwest, but north from Anzy-le-Duc to its mouth, with numerous meanders.

The discovery in 1874 of a cache of Solutrean laurel-leaf flint points in the hamlet of Volgu, just south of the village proper, indicates that the environs of the present-day Rigny were inhabited or frequented by Paleolithic peoples around 20,000 years ago.
