It is located next to the Trondheim fjord between Leangen to the west and Grillstad to the east. The area is known for its rich bird life and has several times been proposed for protection. When a Statoil research and development facility was built there in the 1991, it resulted in civil disobedience at the climax of the Rotvoll controversy. The area has some suburban housing and is otherwise dominated by the Statoil research facility and Sør-Trøndelag University College campus for teacher training and Norwegian Sign Language interpreters. Rotvoll is served by city buses and by Rotvoll Station on Trønderbanen, the commuter train in Trøndelag. There are also several conjoint Anthroposophical projects: Camphill Rotvoll (Camphill Rotvoll - Kristoffertunet) is an intentional community, consisting of 3 family houses; a mixed community with 25 people, some of whom with special needs. Camphill Rotvoll run several workshops: Rotvoll Safteri - a juice and jam facility, Rotvoll landhandel - a general store with mostly bio- dynamic foodstuffs and Rotvoll farm as well as a bakery, weavery and a small market-garden.Rotvoll Waldorf School (Steinerskolen på Rotvoll) is a school is based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophy.

Dragvoll is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The neighborhood is located in the borough of Lerkendal. The area hosts the campus for the faculties of social sciences and humanities of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Until the 1996 creation of NTNU, it was the social sciences and humanities campus of the Norwegian College of General Sciences.

Leangen Travbane is a harness racing course located at Leangen in Trondheim, Norway. The race course is owned by the Norwegian Trotting Association and its parimutuel betting is handled by Norsk Rikstoto. Through this arrangement it is the only equine tote betting establishment in Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal.

Leangen Ishall is an indoor ice hockey arena located in Leangen, Trondheim, Norway. The capacity of the arena is 3,000 and it was opened in 1977. It is the home arena of the Nidaros ice hockey team. The arena also hosted the home games of the Trondheim Black Panthers and Rosenborg ice hockey team. Located next to the arena is Leangen Kunstisbane an outdoor long track artificial speed skating oval constructed in 1979.

Lade Arena Shopping Mall consists of 30 stores and is one of three shopping malls in Lade, Trondheim. The mall consists of three buildings and a smaller office building. Lade Arena was originally opened in November 2007 with two floors. In 2011 Lade Arena 2 was added to the existing mall. There is an underground parking structure.

It is the site of the Leangen Sports Complex (Leangen idrettsanlegg) which includes an indoor ice hockey arena Leangen Ice Hall (Leangen Ishall) and Leangen Sports Hall (Leangen idrettshall) an indoor running track and training facility. Leangen is also the location of Leangen Racecourse (Leangen Travbane), a harness racing course as well as a facility of Sør-Trøndelag University College.

Ladalen Station (Norwegian: Ladalen holdeplass) is a disused railway station on the Nordland Line located in Trondheim, Norway serving the area of Lade. The station was serviced by the local trains Trøndelag Commuter Rail operated by the Norwegian State Railways (NSB). The station opened in 1989, and was closed on 15 June 2008, when a bridge at Leangen Station allowed access to the north side of the tracks. It served what is primarily an industrial area. The station was located west of Lilleby and east of Leangen.
