Hillside Cemetery was established as a non-sectarian, non-profit organization in 1886 under the state laws of New Jersey, which carefully guard the rights of lot owners and ensure the safety, permanence and prudent governance of the cemetery.

Laing House of Plainfield Plantation is a historic house in Edison, Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States, built in the early 18th century when the region was being settled by Scottish Quakers in the late 17th and early 18th century, as recalled in the name of The Plainfields and Scotch Plains. The region was part of the colonial era Elizabethtown Tract and later part of Piscataway Township. It is not certain whether the name derives from the plain clothing worn by the founders or is a reference to the landscape. The house was added to the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Cedar Brook Park is a 78-acre (32 ha) county park in the city of Plainfield in Union County, New Jersey. Featuring the Shakespeare Garden, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 25, 2007, for its significance in landscape architecture. The park was designed by the Olmsted Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts from 1924 to 1930. A small portion of the park extends into the borough of South Plainfield in Middlesex County.

St. Thomas Aquinas High School, formerly known as Bishop George Ahr High School, is a private four-year college preparatory and coeducational Roman Catholic high school for students from ninth through twelfth grades. It is located on a campus covering 34 acres (14 ha) in the northern section of Edison, in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school operates under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen.As of the 2017–18 school year, the school had an enrollment of 739 students and 69.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.6:1. The school's student body was 55.5% (410) White, 16.6% (123) Asian, 14.5% (107) Hispanic, 8.1% (60) Black and 4.7% (35) two or more races. Students attend the school from Middlesex, Union, Monmouth, and Somerset counties in Central New Jersey. South Plainfield High School (or SPHS) is a four-year, co-ed comprehensive community public high school located in South Plainfield in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades and operating as the sole secondary school in the South Plainfield Public Schools. The school offers numerous clubs, activities, and athletics. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,079 students and 88.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.2:1. There were 175 students (16.2% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 47 (4.4% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The Hillside Avenue Historic District is a 27-acre (11 ha) historic district located along Hillside Avenue in the city of Plainfield in Union County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 1, 1982 for its significance in architecture, featuring Colonial Revival architecture. The district includes 33 contributing buildings.

Plainfield High School is a comprehensive community four-year public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Plainfield, in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school is part of the Plainfield Public School District, one of New Jersey's 31 former Abbott districts. Plainfield High School was established in 1857, making it the second-oldest high school in New Jersey. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1928.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,831 students and 129.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.2:1. There were 1,219 students (66.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 190 (10.4% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Edison Oaks is an unincorporated community and residential neighborhood located within Edison Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is located in the northern half of Edison Township; south of Oak Tree, east of the Oak Tree Tennis Courts, west of the Oak Tree Park, and north of Glenwood Park, Glenwood Heights and Hampshire Gardens. The community is bordered by Oak Tree Road to the north, Warwick Road to the east, and Peru Street to the south and west, with Whitehall Avenue in the center.Edison Oaks was developed by Alfred C. Vitale through his development firm Vitality Estates between 1960 and 1961. The community consists of 60 ranch-style bi-level and split-level homes designed by architect S. J. Potter. The houses were built between 1961 and 1962 by contractors John Cali and Ignatius Seminara of the building firm Cali Associates, with residents moving into the new homes starting in autumn 1962.

Potters was an unincorporated community and now is neighborhood located within Edison Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.In the northern part of the township, Potters was once known as Potters Crossing, and may have been an African-American community as early as the 1800s. Centered around Inman Avenue and Grove Avenue, it is believed that seven upper-middle-class families moved to the village from Harlem in 1917. The community grew in the 1920s, with families from the South. By the 1940s, it had more than 1,500 residents and included three churches and a volunteer fire department.As early as 1955, Edison was pushing for a federal housing project to eliminate the slum areas of Potters. The community was dispersed during an urban renewal projects in the 1960s and 1970s. It was largely and replaced by the James D. Elder Park and two low-income housing development projects: Greenwood Townhouses and Colonial Square Townhouses. The Mount Pleasant Baptist Church was relocated in 1978.
