Cedar Brook Park is a 78-acre (32 ha) county park in the city of Plainfield in Union County, New Jersey. Featuring the Shakespeare Garden, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 25, 2007, for its significance in landscape architecture. The park was designed by the Olmsted Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts from 1924 to 1930. A small portion of the park extends into the borough of South Plainfield in Middlesex County.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 1, 1982 for its significance in architecture, featuring Colonial Revival architecture. The district includes 33 contributing buildings.

Plainfield High School is a comprehensive community four-year public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Plainfield, in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school is part of the Plainfield Public School District, one of New Jersey's 31 former Abbott districts. Plainfield High School was established in 1857, making it the second-oldest high school in New Jersey. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1928.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,831 students and 129.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.2:1. There were 1,219 students (66.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 190 (10.4% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Hillside Cemetery was established as a non-sectarian, non-profit organization in 1886 under the state laws of New Jersey, which carefully guard the rights of lot owners and ensure the safety, permanence and prudent governance of the cemetery.

Built in 1881, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1979, for its significance in architecture, commerce, and industry. Orville Taylor Waring was an oil industry pioneer. The house was added as a contributing property to the Van Wyck Brooks Historic District on December 10, 1985.

Built in 1896, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 28, 2012, for its significance in architecture, education, and community planning and development. The duCret School of Art purchased the building in 1977 to use for art education.

Plainfield is a city in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Nicknamed "The Queen City,", it serves as both a regional hub for Central New Jersey and a bedroom suburb of the New York Metropolitan area, located in the Raritan Valley region. As of the 2020 United States census, the city's population, majority Latino for the first time, was 54,586. This was an increase of 4,778 (+9.6%) from the 2010 census count of 49,808, which in turn reflected an increase of 1,979 (+4.1%) from the 47,829 counted in the 2000 census. In 2022, the Census Bureau estimated the city's population to be 54,513.The area of present-day Plainfield was originally formed as Plainfield Township, a township that was created on April 5, 1847, from portions of Westfield Township, while the area was still part of Essex County. On March 19, 1857, Plainfield Township became part of the newly created Union County.Plainfield was incorporated as a city by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 21, 1869, from portions of Plainfield Township, based on the results of a referendum held that same day. The city and township coexisted until March 6, 1878, when Plainfield Township was dissolved and parts were absorbed by Plainfield city, with the remainder becoming Fanwood Township (now known as Scotch Plains).The name "Plainfield", also used in both North Plainfield and South Plainfield, is derived from a local estate or from its scenic location.

Named after the author and literary critic Van Wyck Brooks, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1985, for its significance in architecture. The district includes 109 contributing buildings. The Orville T. Waring House was added individually to the NRHP in 1979 and contributes to the district.

The Plainfield Masonic Temple is located at 105 East 7th Street in the city of Plainfield in Union County, New Jersey, United States. Built in 1929 by Jerusalem Lodge No. 26 Free & Accepted Masons, the historic Neoclassical Revival style masonic temple was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 16, 2024, for its significance in architecture.

The 1987 U.S. Women's Open was the 42nd U.S. Women's Open, held July 23–28 at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey, a suburb southwest of New York City. Laura Davies won the first of her four major titles in an 18-hole Tuesday playoff over runners-up Ayako Okamoto and Joanne Carner. The final round concluded on Monday after rain delays. It was Davies' first victory in the United States, and she became the fourth international winner of the championship.Following this year, the Women's Open was not played in the New York City area for over a quarter century, returning in 2013 at Sebonack on eastern Long Island. In that time, the winner's share of the purse grew over tenfold, from $55,000 to $585,000.
