Dominion High School is a public secondary school in Sterling, an unincorporated area in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. Dominion High School first opened in 2003, receiving students from Potomac Falls High School and Park View High School. Dominion's student body draws students who live primarily in the Sugarland Run and Lowes Island communities. In 2005, Dominion was the host of the Loudoun Academy of Science, a part-time magnet school program for Loudoun County students. In 2018, the Academy of Science moved out of Dominion and formed the Academies of Loudoun.

The Academy of Science (AOS) is a STEM program for high school students enrolled in Loudoun County Public Schools. The program was previously located in Dominion High School. During the summer of 2018, the Academy of Science joined the Monroe Advanced Technical Academy (MATA) and the new Academy of Engineering and Technology (AET) to form the Academies of Loudoun (ACL). The Academies of Loudoun opened with a new campus located in Leesburg, Virginia.

Cascades is a census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 United States Census was 11,912. Along with nearby Countryside and Lowes Island, it is considered one of the three main components of the Potomac Falls community (ZIP code 20165) within Sterling, Virginia. Cascades is a planned community of 2,500 acres (1,000 ha) with approximately 6,500 homes. The corresponding homeowners association was incorporated on November 8, 1990. As in nearby Sterling Park, prior to the establishment of the Cascades community in 1990 the area was made up of a few very large farms. The homeowners association maintains five community centers, five swimming pools, 15 tennis courts, and other amenities including extensive paved walking trails. The Lowes Island at Cascades community (commonly referred to as Lowes Island) is an advertised portion of the legal subdivision of Cascades, but is not a legal subdivision itself. The Lowes Island community is centered on Trump National Golf Club Washington, D.C., formerly Lowes Island Country Club. The Cascades development is bordered on the north by the Potomack Lake Sportsplex and Algonkian Regional Park (which abuts the Potomac River); both facilities are included in the Cascades census-designated place. The name "Cascades" alludes to the rapidly descending flow along the Potomac River starting at Lowes Island and leading to Great Falls. The commercial core of Cascades is Cascades Marketplace, a 318,000-square-foot (29,500 m2) retail center adjacent to the Cascades Public Library and very near the Loudoun campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Great Falls Plaza is a second, smaller retail center located just outside Lowes Island. Area public schools include Potomac Falls High School, River Bend Middle School, Potowmack Elementary School, Horizon Elementary School, and Lowes Island Elementary School. The Cascades area encompasses the gated campus of the Falcons Landing retirement community for retired U.S. military officers. Cascades is served by Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department, and the Potomac Falls post office.

Algonkian Regional Park is located on the Potomac River in Sterling, Virginia at Cascades, Virginia. The 838-acre park is owned and operated by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NOVA Parks) and contains open fields, picnic shelters, rental cottages, an event center for weddings and meetings, a boat launch with access to the Potomac River, the Volcano Island water park open from May to September, and an 18-hole golf course. The park is bisected by the Potomac Heritage Trail.

Bloomfield, also known as Holly Knoll, is a historic home located near Herndon, Fairfax County, Virginia. It was built about 1858, and is a two-story, five bay, red brick I-house with a two-story service wing. The front facade has small one-story front portico with a flat roof is supported by four plain square posts. The house has Federal / Greek Revival-style details.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Along with nearby Countryside and Cascades, it is considered one of the three main components of the Potomac Falls community (ZIP code 20165). The community takes its name from an island on the south shore of the Potomac River.

Trump National Golf Club, Washington, D.C. is an 800-acre (1.3 sq mi) private golf club in the eastern United States, at Lowes Island in Potomac Falls, Virginia, northwest of Washington, D.C. It is part of the Trump chain of golf clubs that includes clubs in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Bedminster. The club contains two 18-hole golf courses, both par 72. The Championship Course was designed by Tom Fazio, and the Riverview course was added in 1999, when the club was still known as the Lowes Island Club. The Riverview Course abuts the Potomac River and was originally designed by Arthur Hills. The club also contains a 50,000-square-foot (4,600 m2) clubhouse, an 82-foot (25 m) swimming pool, an indoor tennis center, and a fitness center.

The Dranesville Tavern that was located in Dranesville, Virginia dates from 1850. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The building has been moved from its original location and is now located near Herndon. It was a "wagon stand" type of tavern, catering to teamsters.The proposed widening of Route 7 in the mid-1960s threatened the Dranesville Tavern. In 1968, the building was moved 130 feet from its original location to preserve it.
