The Basilica church of St. Ursula (German: [ˌzaŋt ˈʔʊʁzula], Colognian: [ˌtsɪnt ˈʔoʒəla]) is located in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is built upon the ancient ruins of a Roman cemetery, where the 11,000 virgins associated with the legend of Saint Ursula are said to have been buried. The church has an impressive reliquary created from the bones of the former occupants of the cemetery. It is one of the twelve Romanesque churches of Cologne and was designated a Minor Basilica on 25 June 1920. While the nave and main tower are Romanesque, the choir has been rebuilt in the Gothic style.

Breslauer Platz/Hauptbahnhof station (English: Breslauer Place/Main Station, sometimes abbreviated as Breslauer Platz/Hbf) is an underground station on lines 16 and 18 of the Cologne Stadtbahn system. The station is located under the northeast corner of the Köln Hauptbahnhof, the city's main railway station.

Köln Hauptbahnhof or Cologne Central Station is a railway station in Cologne, Germany. The station is an important local, national and international transport hub, with many ICE, Thalys and Intercity trains calling there, as well as regional Regional-Express, RegionalBahn and local S-Bahn trains. EuroNight and Nightjet night services also call at the station. It has frequent connections to Frankfurt by way of the Cologne–Frankfurt high-speed rail line, which starts in southern Cologne. On an average day, about 280,000 travellers frequent the station, making it the fifth busiest station in Germany.The station is situated next to Cologne Cathedral. There is another important station in Cologne, the Köln Messe/Deutz station across the river Rhine, just about 400 metres away from Köln Hauptbahnhof. The stations are linked by the Hohenzollern Bridge, a six-track railway bridge with pedestrian and bicycle lanes on each side. Frequent local services connect the two stations.

Over 1,200 women were reportedly sexually assaulted during the 2015–16 public New Year's Eve's celebrations in Germany, in most cases by men of non-European origin. Multiple women reported being raped. In many of the incidents, women in public places had been surrounded and assaulted by groups of men. The Bundeskriminalamt (German Federal Criminal Police) confirmed in July 2016 that 1,200 women had been sexually assaulted on that New Year's night.By 4 January 2016, the German national media reported that in Cologne, the sexual assaulters had mostly been described as "North African", "Arab", "dark-skinned" and "foreign". On 5 January 2016, the German government and the Cologne police speculated that the attacks might have been organized. However, by 21 January, the North Rhine-Westphalian government declared that there were no indications of premeditated organized attacks, and on 11 February, the new Cologne police president stated the same. Instead, the Cologne police chief suggested that the perpetrators had come from countries where such sexual assaults by groups of men are common. That suggestion was confirmed in a Federal Criminal Police report in June 2016, which also identified five more factors contributing to the occurrence of the attacks: group pressure, absence of police intervention, frustrations of migrants, disinhibition caused by alcohol and/or drug use, and disinhibition due to lack of social ties with German society.By April 2016, statistics recorded by authorities indicated that out of the identified 153 suspects in Cologne who were convicted of sexual offenses and other crimes during New Year's Eve 2015–16, two-thirds were originally from Morocco or Algeria, 44% were asylum seekers, another 12% were likely to have been in Germany illegally, and 3% were underaged unaccompanied refugees. By July 2016, the police stated that half of the 120 identified suspects of sexual offences on the New Year's Eve had arrived in Germany during the year 2015, most of those 120 had come from North Africa, and four suspects nationwide had been convicted. By November 2016, around 200 suspects of the sexual assaults had been identified nationwide.

Dom/Hauptbahnhof station (English: Cathedral/Main Station, sometimes abbreviated as Dom/Hbf) is an underground station on lines 5, 16 and 18 of the Cologne Stadtbahn system. The station is located under the southwest corner of the Köln Hauptbahnhof, the city's main railway station and along the northern edge of the Cologne Cathedral (German: Kölner Dom). The station opened in 1968 as part of the first phase of the Innenstadt (English: inner city) Stadtbahn tunnel, and was one of the first underground stations in Cologne.

The Excelsior Hotel Ernst with a view of Cologne Cathedral, the Dom, was built in 1863. Carl Ernst was the constructor and first owner of the hotel, which was formerly called "Hotel Ernst". The Beggar from Cologne Cathedral A large part of the plot of the film " The Beggar of Cologne Cathedral" (silent film of 1927) plays in Cologne Hotel Excelsior, which is recognizable by the film recordings as a Hotel Excelsior Ernst.

The Battle of Cologne was fought near the city of Köln (English: Cologne) (now part of Germany) in the year 716 CE. The battle is known chiefly as the first battle of Charles Martel's command and is the only defeat of his life.

Köln Hansaring railway station is situated in the city of Cologne in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, about one kilometre northwest of Köln Hauptbahnhof. A few hundred metres west of the station is the Betriebsbahnhof Köln Hansaring Wendeanlage (Köln Hansaring operations station reversing facility). At the station Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn line S 11 branches off towards Neuss Hauptbahnhof via Köln-Nippes station and Köln-Chorweiler on the Lower Left Rhine Railway from S-Bahn line S 12, which runs parallel to the Cologne–Aachen high-speed railway to Düren via Köln-Ehrenfeld and Köln-Weiden West station. The station (which is classified as a Haltepunkt, that is a "halt", which is defined as having no set of points) and the operating station together form the western end of the trunk line of the Cologne S-Bahn (which is operated as part of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn). It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station. The S-Bahn trains stop here on an island platform, which has a length of 145 metres. A large part of the platform is located on a bridge over a street called Hansaring. There is a covered connection between the Hansaring S-Bahn station and the Hansaring station of the Cologne Stadtbahn in the median strip of the Hansaring.

Ebertplatz is a major underground station on the Cologne Stadtbahn lines 12, 15, 16 and 18, located in Cologne. The station lies at Ebertplatz on the Cologne Ring in the district of Innenstadt.

The Cologne University of Music (German: Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln is a music college in Cologne, Germany. Founded in 1850, it is Europe's largest academy of music.

St. Andrew's (German: St. Andreas) is a 10th-century Romanesque church located in the old town of Cologne, Germany. It is one of twelve churches built in Cologne in that period.Archbishop Gero consecrated the church in 974, dedicating it to St. Andrew, although an earlier church at the site was dedicated to St. Matthew. In the 12th century, the church was rebuilt in the Romanesque style, and was probably completed after the great fire of Cologne in 1220. In the crypt of the church lies a Roman sarcophagus from the 3rd century, which holds the remains of the 13th-century theologian and natural philosopher St. Albertus Magnus. Since 1947, the Dominican Order has ministered to the church.
