Loveland Dam

The Descanso, Alpine and Pacific Railway is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge heritage railroad owned and being relocated by the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo, California. It was owned by Roy Athey and it opened in Alpine in May 1990. This little operation was a sole proprietorship and has one locomotive, a 1935 Brookville Equipment Corporation unit. The railroad had three stations; Shade, El Pozo and High Pass. The railway offered free train rides and historical narration to the public on most Sundays.

Wright's Field in Alpine is a 230-acre nature reserve in Alpine, California. The property was purchased in 1990 by Back Country Land Trust.The ecosystems found in Wright's Field include native grassland, Engelmann oak woodland, riparian (streamside) habitat, vernal pools, and coastal sage scrub/chaparral. Native and nonnative plants found in Wright's Field include sunflowers, buckwheat, sugarbush, canchalagua, wallflowers and Engelmann oak trees among others. Special wildlife in this field are the Hermes copper butterfly and the Quino checkerspot butterfly. Also, a conservation project for the rare plant, thornmint, is currently being held in this field with successful amounts of progress and research.

Alpine is a census-designated place (CDP) in the Cuyamaca Mountains of San Diego County, California. Alpine had a population of 14,696 at the 2020 census, up from 14,236 at the 2010 census. The town is largely surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest and borders two reservations of the Kumeyaay Nation, Viejas and Sycuan, and the rural unincorporated areas around the city of El Cajon.

Dehesa is a populated place in San Diego County, California. Dehesa is located along the Sweetwater River and Dehesa Valley between Harbison Canyon, Crest, Alpine, and Granite Hills. Dehesa is a mainly agricultural community. It is served by the Dehesa School District, which consists of one school serving grades kindergarten through 8. It is located in the 53rd Congressional District of California.The reservation of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation runs along the border of Dehesa. Dehesa is also the home of the Sycuan Casino.

McGinty Mountain is a gabbroic mountain located in San Diego County, California near Jamul. Because of the gabbroic soil, the mountain supports numerous rare and endemic plant species, including half of California's population of the Dehesa nolina (Nolina interrata). The mountain belongs to an ecological preserve collectively managed by The Nature Conservancy, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge. The mountain is accessible through a 4.7 mi (7.6 km) long out-and-back hiking trail.

Harbison Canyon is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California. Harbison Canyon had a population of 4,048 as of the 2020 census, up from 3,841 as of the 2010 census.

Alpine Beer Company is an American brewery founded in 1999 by Pat McIlhenney in Alpine, California. Alpine Beer Company produces a variety of beers, many of which have high alcohol content and are strongly hopped beers. The beers have acquired a following due to the popularity of such beers as Pure Hoppiness and Exponential Hoppiness IPAs. Alpine Beer Company was ranked as the fifth best brewery in the US in 2006 by Beer Advocate. Some Alpine sour beers have been mentioned in the Los Angeles Times as "part of a new wave of refreshing American sour beers".Alpine has won three Great American Beer Festival medals and eight World Beer Cup medals. In 2003, Alpine won the Bronze in the GABF for its Mandarin Nectar and in 2004 won a silver for McIlhenney’s Irish Red. It was also awarded a gold medal in the 2004 World Beer Cup and a Silver in 2008 for McIlhenney’s Irish Red. In 2016 Alpine was awarded the GABF bronze medal in the Strong Pale Ale category for their HFS IPA.Prior to founding its own brewery in 2002, Alpine Beer Company had been contracting brewing of its “McIlhenney’s Irish Red”, from AleSmith Brewing Company. In November 2014, Alpine Beer Company was acquired by fellow San Diego brewery Green Flash Brewing Company.

Crest is an unincorporated community in the East County region of San Diego County, California. The Crest census-designated place (CDP) had a population of 2,828 at the 2020 census, a rise from 2,593 at the 2010 census.

The Laguna Fire, also known as the Kitchen Creek Fire or the Boulder Oaks Fire, was a 175,425-acre (70,992 ha) wildfire that burned from September 22 to October 4, 1970, in the Laguna Mountains and East County region of San Diego County in Southern California. It was one of many wildfires in a massive conflagration that spanned across the state from September 22 to October 4, 1970. At the time, it was the second-largest fire in the recorded history of California after the 1932 Matilija Fire (not counting the Santiago Canyon Fire in 1889, which experts estimate burned approximately 300,000 acres (120,000 ha)).

Lyons Peak is a prominent mountain in San Diego County, California. The top of the mountain is enclosed in an almost rectangular patch of the Cleveland National Forest. An old fire lookout tower is located at the peak. Lyons Peak is located on restricted land and trespassing is prohibited. The peak's toponym honors Nathaniel Lyon (1818–1861). As an army captain, he passed by the peak in 1851 while scouting a new route east to the desert.

Hollenbeck Canyon Wildlife Area is located near Jamul and Dulzura in California. The former cattle ranch was designated a wildlife area in 2001, and forms a wildlife corridor between Otay Mountain Wilderness and Jamul Mountains under the protection of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The approximately 6,100-acre area is open to the public for activities including hunting, equestrian use, hiking, mountain-biking, and (hunting) dog training.
